Samsung Captivate :: Can A Misbehaving App Turn Off Phone?
Aug 11, 2010My initial instinct was to blame the device when it randomly turned itself off yesterday. Could it be a poorly designed (or beta) app that's responsible?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way or a app that allows u to set a time for your phone to turn completley off and back on at a certain time. I could do this on my Blackberry and would set it to turn off at night then back on in the morning.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhile using the phone today the battery ran out, and as soon as I got home I plugged it in. I don't get the green battery charging screen and it won't turn on. I didn't do anything unusual other than run GPS in the background with Mytracks.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just picked up a used Captivate an hour ago. I was messing around with the setting and saw an update section. So I did that and it said it found one, it downloaded it, and said the phone would reboot in 5 sec. After that, I get nothing. I had like 80% battery via the meter. Any tips here for a new (and scared) android user?
View 5 Replies View RelatedNot sure if anyone has faced this issue on Samsung Captivate? I searched the forum but did not find this posted. So I took a flight and found out something weird
1. Enable Flight Mode
2. Turn Off the phone
3. Turn on the phone
4. Disable Flight Mode
-You see the 3G icon appear now. Try accessing the internet, go to the browser, or sync your email - it does not work.
5. Turn off the phone
6. Turn on the phone
-- Now everything should be working as normal
I tried it a couple of times again to be sure and every time the issue occurs. There was no wifi access when I tried the above.
so you know when you use this phone , it turns off like every 30 -40 sec when we not using it , we have to turn on the screen by press the power button on the side. THEN I HAVE TO unlock by slide.is there anyway i can click on the screen to show up the screen to unlock .

View 6 Replies View RelatedBasically, something happened, my phone's battery died, and as usual,I just switched in a new battery, turned it on, it went to the splash screen, the glowing S.and then turned off.I tried to charge the phone, that didn't work.I thought the battery might just be dead, so I charged it over night, but nope. After I put a battery in, it does it's usual swoooshhh noise, turns on, S glows, then turns off. Then it won't turn on again until I take out the battery, put it back in, after which I turn on and the same thing again. Just for more information, the screen sticks on the glowing S for a reallllyyy long time, and it doesn't go through the "Turning off" animation anymore either. What's weird is I didn't even do anything at all with it this past week, other than play Angry Birds, call/text some people, and use the alarm on it.No idea what went wrong at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an issue and my phone refuses to listen. I am currently using the Android Keyboard but I want to use the Samsung Keyboard because it fixes common typed errors (although the Android Keyboard Settings says it does too, but it doesn't) However, when I switch to Samsung Keyboard, every letter I press it makes an awful clicking popping noise. I know there is no setting under Samsung Keyboard Settings for Sound on Keypress but there is one under Android Keyboard. I have turned it off but the Samsung Keyboard keeps making the clicking/popping noise.

Just had a quick question. I'm new here and new to Android in general, so hopefully this isn't asked often. How do I get the screen on my Captivate to turn off (and stay off) while I have it plugged in? As it stands, my screen dims, but does not turn off. If I hit the power button, it will turn off, but as soon as I get a notification it will turn back on and stay on. I have the screen settings set to turn my screen off after being idle for 30 seconds. This works, but only when it is not plugged in.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis maybe a silly question but how do you turn the music player off ? It has a pause but no stop if i go to home it still plays. I have been going to my settings and app/running serv. and shutting it down that way, but I'm sure there must be an easier way.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI always keep my system volume turned all the way down. I don't know why anyone would want their phone to make obnoxious sounds when turning off. When do most people turn their phones off? Church, movies, meetings, basically anytime you want it to be QUIET. Anyway, I digress.
Something keeps turning up my system volume. Often when my phone shuts down due to low battery I hear the stupid shutdown sound. I think it may also have happened a few times when powering the phone off manually. I am rooted and I know I could rename the files, but I am getting tired of working around the bugs on this thing and having to keep track of all the files I rename. I try to keep it as "stock" as possible.
Any ideas on what might be turning my system volume up?
I put my phone in my pocket, and forgot to lock it.Something setting wise got changed and now it clicks/beeps every time i type. I went to settings>sound and display>audible selection.its unchecked.ive toggled it, powercycled the phone and even yelled at it.
View 2 Replies View Relatedare there any shortcuts available? for instance, on the iphone while listening to music and the display turns off, I could double click to home button to display the player's controls. also, i think i saw in another thread that the captivate does NOT support headphone controls.. this stinks. my headphones have a button where I can pause the song.. or use it to answer the phone I receive a call.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI ordered a brand new captivate without contract on ebay sealed. If I ever run into those auto turn off problems, will I be able to switch it out for another one if I have the original box?
View 16 Replies View RelatedThe phone pops up an alert when the battery is fully charged, saying to unplug. First of all, is there a reason for doing so? (Is it bad to keep it plugged in once it's fully charged?) Also, is there a way to disable this or at least make it quiet (without having to silence the entire phone), so it does not wake me up?

I have tried switching the auto timeout amount multiple times...still just sits here until I manually turn it off.
How do I turn off the sound on the splash screen startup?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAnyone else having a problem of not having the screen turn on when you press the power button from sleep? It doesn't happen often but it does happen. This is my second Captivate as my last one would shut itself off randomly and that phone also had this problem.Yes, I make sure I pressed the power button and waited a couple seconds to make sure it just wasn't lag but I can guarantee you it is not. Like I said, it doesn't happen all the time but maybe once every 2 days. I'm guessing it's a slight problem with other users as it happened on my last phone but I'm not sure. Hopefully it's a software issue.
View 11 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is an Android setting or a ChompSMS setting but does anyone know how to turn off the voice announcement when I receive a txt message?
It doesn't seem to be tied to the volume rocker as I still get announcements when set to completely mute.
