I am annoyed with the fact that the phone sleeps when on a call. I primarily use it with bluetooth while driving and to end a call i need to unsleep the phone and then I can do so.
Is there an app or setting that will disable the sleep "feature". To me this is one of the most annoying things about this phone.

I've noticed when the phone goes into standby mode (press the right power button), the 3G eventually turns off. Is there a way to prevent that from happening? I'm assuming I can't get any notifications (i.e. Instant Messenger clients, Google Voice, etc.) while the 3G is off, but not sure. I'm also assuming 3G goes into sleep mode, as when I power the phone up I don't see the 3G icon (is that assumption correct?).

I know I can turn my notification off or change it to vibration but then I'll miss all my alerts and reminders from other apps. any apps out there can simply turn this feature off?

I killed all tasks with advanced task killer as I do throughout the day as well. I don't use the email program on my phone nor do I get any notifications for any other programs. My Wi-Fi sleep policy is set to never because I have Wi-Fi at home. Brightness is at a low setting too. So, any ideas what would be draining my battery during the overnight when I'm not using my phone? I don't have problems during the day when I use it.

What is your take on the WiFi sleep policy. I do like the fact that Wi-Fi can remain on all the time, but will it be a drain on my battery? Is it better to keep the Wi-Fi to sleep on screen shut off? I am near a Wi-Fi connection for most of the day and always at home.
View 25 Replies View RelatedWhen I select the power button to bring the phone out of sleep the phone screen will turn off within a second or two. Is there a way to keep the screen on longer? If I press power and look away for a second the screen goes black again. Its liek I have to hit power and jump right on it to enter my swipe code.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAnyone else having a problem of not having the screen turn on when you press the power button from sleep? It doesn't happen often but it does happen. This is my second Captivate as my last one would shut itself off randomly and that phone also had this problem.Yes, I make sure I pressed the power button and waited a couple seconds to make sure it just wasn't lag but I can guarantee you it is not. Like I said, it doesn't happen all the time but maybe once every 2 days. I'm guessing it's a slight problem with other users as it happened on my last phone but I'm not sure. Hopefully it's a software issue.

By default the wi-fi setting is set to go to sleep (and use cellular data instead) when the screen is off, which will most likely happen while you are streaming music as well as other things. To change it so the wi-fi never turns off, to into the phone's menu -> wireless and network -> wi-fi settings -> tap the menu button and select advanced which has an option for wi-fi sleep policy that had been defaulted to sleep "when screen turns off". There you have the option to change it to "never" or "never when plugged in".
Is there an LED light on the Captivate to notify of email, missed calls, texts when the screen is locked or in sleep?

When I navigate to the MP3 that I want as my ringtone, I tap the menu button to find the "Set as" option, but that option seems to have been removed altogether! Am I missing something here, or have AT&T and/or Samsung decided that we're not allowed to set our personal MP3's as ringtones and therefore are forced to either do without, or buy them from wherever? Has anyone figured out a workaround and/or fix to this problem?

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter noticing my battery was draining quickly, and then after reading this thread, I installed Android System Info to see what was draining my battery so fast. I notice that whenever I would turn on WiFi, the phone will never go to sleep , regardless of what I set the WiFi sleep policy to. After turning off WiFi, the battery still drains heavily.
The WiFi will shut off after 15mins (if you set it to "When screen turns off" or "never when plugged in"). However it seems to keep the CPU on causing it to drain down the battery.
It would seem that whenever WiFi is enabled, the Android system process creates a partial wakelock that does not go away even if you turn off WiFi. The only way to resolve this is by powering off or rebooting the phone.
You can verify this in Android System Info by going into Battery-History-Other Usage-Partial Wake usage to see how much time the "Android System" process holding a partial wake.
I even did a factory reset on the device; and it is still happening so it doesn't appear to be any app that caused the issue. As I said, it works fine as long as I don't enable WiFi.
I already know of two users having this issue, but I'm wondering if folks having battery problems are going through this as well. Is anyone else having similar issues after using WiFi? I'm hoping someone will be able to identify what exactly is putting the wakelock on and we'll be able to find a fix for it. Other than not using WiFi at all or rebooting the phone after using Wifi.
I just set up goggle voice but when I receive a voice mail I get an sms notification even though I disabled notifications. Is there an option I missed to disable sms notification?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy work email works great on my Captivate for incoming, but because of some weird settings at work, I cannot use the outgoing server. As a workaround, I want to set up my incoming as my work address, and then make my outgoing account on that email as a totally separate gmail account. This does not seem to work, so I created a separate account for my outgoing and that worked, but the problem with that is, when I try to "reply" to my incoming mail it does not work because the outgoing is set up on a separate email account rather than on the same one. Is there a way I can make my outgoing a completely separate SMTP than my incoming on the same account?

So when I click on Phone, Contacts, all my contacts have the google logo next to the phone number. When I click on Groups, it shows Family, Friends, Google, etc. It has zero contacts in all groups except for 30 contacts in my Google groups. (which is all the contacts I have in my phone.)On my friends Captivate, he doesn't have his contacts synced from Google. He goes into his Contacts, Groups and can click on Family or Friends and can add people from his contacts to the Family or Friends group. I can't do this cause all my contacts are synced from Google.Is there a work around for this? Hope I made sense to someone.

One thing I can't figure out is how to disable the default email viewer? I am getting 2 notifications every time a email comes in. I get one in my gmail launcher and another in the notification bar. The one in the notification bar takes me to the email viewer that is blue and black and is the one I want to turn off.

So far I've only done mild browsing/email and navigation off wireless, yet I've already used 67 Mb in 4-5 days. Anybody else having similar experiences?
I've tried the APNDroid widget set to "Red", but when I disable Wifi, the 3G icon pops right up in the notification bar and 3G seems to work normally. I've also tried the JuiceDefender "Toggle Mobile Data" and tapped it to make it yellow "ON", and again the 3G pops up when I disable WiFi. Anybody having any luck disabling 3G? Also, it would be nice to still get push gmail, which seems like it wouldn't using much data.
My phone still seems to be forwarding to google voice. I changed the voicemail number in settings to my own number. What else do I need to do?

But I don't use it, have no reason to use it, and it takes up memory. I've been to the (lack of) settings and can't find anything.I am rooted, but not familiar enough with it to know how to remove the application manually.Using a task killer works for a few minutes, but it takes less than 5 minutes to return on its own.

That being said, I've installed handcent mms and curious, is there a way I can disable the native mms app on the phone? It's rather annoying having to delete two different sets of notices and messages.
