Samsung : Android 2.2 SDK Breaks Compatibility With Older Phones

May 27, 2010

I have recently updated my app to a build target of SDK version 8 in order to include the App2SD feature for my users. However I have had reports of devices on SDK 3 (1.5) having problems starting the application, with the following stack trace: If i change the build target back to version 4 as it was previously this issue goes away, also if i remove any graphical resources from my XML files this issue goes away.

Android :: Froyo Still Breaks Compatibility

Jun 30, 2010

You can no longer send the ACTION_ATTACH_DATA intent with an image URI to a custom content provider without crashing the Gallery app. This bug was reported more than a month ago. It is a stupid bug that is super easy to fix, and as soon as Froyo was open sourced a patch was submitted. Still Froyo was officially released and the bug remains leaving developers who use this with an app that is no longer compatible and no easy way to work around it for 2.2. There are other bugs that also have not been acknowledged. This 'open' thing is great but it is not of much use this way.

General :: Mac OS X Leopard Compatibility With Android Phones?

Jan 6, 2013

I'm sick to death of my iPhone. It's been playing up to the point that using offline apps is about the extent to which I can use it half the time - calls drop/don't come through, messages don't send & the phone doesn't receive them either, the connection to the internet (Wi-Fi & cellular) suddenly drops & doesn't return unless I restart the phone...

I'm due an upgrade on my contract, and the two options with the right plans are the Samsung Galaxy S3 & Sony Xperia T, both of which have a reputation of being decent, if not fantastic phones (one more so than the other). I definitely want to go to android rather than stay on with another iPhone (which is another possible option), but I'm worried about it's compatibility with my computer.

I own a 2006 iMac which is currently running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard), which, despite only being released a few years ago and is more recent than Windows Vista, has been declared obsolete & is no longer receiving updates for any software (Flash, iTunes, Firefox, Chrome, etc.), so I'm concerned as to what may happen if I choose to switch to Android. I'm already struggling to keep my iPhone working well with the computer because of the fact that I can't even update it's software any more.

I do intend to update the software to Snow Leopard, and possibly Lion depending on whether my mac will accept it or not (the apple store assistants didn't really know anything about the 2006 model, one of whom didn't even know that the older white design existed -.- ). However, I'd like to get my phone before I upgrade.

1) Will my computer's current software (and future software) be able to effectively sync my android? & yes, I know this will require some third-party software to assist.
2) Which of the two phones would be better? My intentions are for browsing, social networking, texting, and listening to music.

Samsung Captivate :: Kies - Older Version Available To Download And Usable

Nov 16, 2010

I've been doing a bit of research, and it seems that Samsung Kies is not meant for (or supported) for North America. Apparently, the older versions of Kies could work on our Captivates and was available to download through Samsung's Europe site. However, the newer versions of Samsung Kies can apparently detect that we've got North American Captivates and will not connect. Anybody have links to the older versions? Doesn't proprietary-ness totally defeat the reason we bought androids in the first place?

Samsung : Android Compatibility With Restlet / JSON / Jackson

Jun 6, 2010

I'm currently working on a web service-client for Android. I'm using a Java client library which provides an abstraction for interaction with the service. The client library works on normal machines. However, when I use the classes in my Android project, some calls don't return a result on Android, the background-service stops working at the first of those commands. Wireshark shows a tcp exchange, the server gets the requests. There is no exceptions or anything. Something in the serialization/serialization seams not to work. I'm using the newest version of Jackson libraries (1.5.3) and the restlet jar in the android edition. Is there any known problems with Jackson and Android? Which code and libraries are compatible with Android?

Samsung Galaxy S :: Compatibility With Computers MAC

Oct 27, 2010

I was unable to find much information regarding compatibility of the Samsung Galaxy with MAC computers. On behalf of the small number of MAC users in this forum, I made a call to Samsung tech support re: how to do the Frodo update with a MAC computer. I was told that the Galaxy phone is PC based and, at present, Samsung does not have a plan to port Kies to OS X. In order to install the Frodo update when it is available, if we don't have an application such as Parallels or Virtual PC, we will have to borrow a PC to do the job.

Samsung Galaxy S :: Windows 7 64 Bit Compatibility

Aug 8, 2010

Does anybody know if and when Samsung will be releasing drivers for their PC software that are compatible with a 64 bit OS (Vista or Win7)? I currently own a Samsung Tocco which I have been unable to connect to my PC since I bought a new computer in December, and the phone has become a virtual white elephant other than for making calls and sending texts etc. I have looked at the Galaxy S which looks like a great phone. However I did a search on Google and discovered that Samsung's Kies software still has no support for any 64 bit OS, and this is now 12 months since Win7 was first released to developers. As far as I'm concerned this is Samsung's loss and HTC's gain, as I will go for the Desire unless Samsung can get their act together.

Android :: Phone Reboot Breaks App

Oct 21, 2009

In my project, in the res/drawable directory I have:

CODE:.......................

When I put the app on my HTC Hero, it works fine. But if I reboot the phone, the application icon stops using the icon.png, and instead begins to use the go_bg.png. The button that uses the go.xml no longer works either. Rebooting the phone basically breaks the app. I can reinstall the app and it again works fine all up until I reboot.

I know of two ways to get the app on the phone, first using Eclipse and second using the HTC Sync software that came with the phone. Installing the app either way produces the same issues in the end.

I've tried renaming the button image names and the xml file. Nothing helps there.

My phone is the HTC Hero. In Eclipse I'm building using the 1.5 SDK.

Any idea why rebooting my phone breaks my app?

Android :: Animation Breaks App Visually / Prevent It?

Mar 5, 2010

We are currently looking into methods how to implement tabs. TabHost has serious limitations and is no option. Instead, we are experimenting with our own tab solution, which has its own task (activity stack) for each tab.

It's working well except that there's transition animation performed by the system when launching a new task the first time. The NO_ANIMATION parameter passed to startActivity has no effect in this case. The animation breaks the app visually - is there a way to prevent it?

HTC EVO 4G :: Transition Streaming Not Smooth From 4G To 3G - Breaks Feed

Sep 15, 2010

I've been plugging my phone into my car audio and running my slingplayer while on my long morning commute, in which i travel through a few areas that are out of 4G coverage. When this happens, the feed fails and doesnt start back up till i reconnect the slingplayer. What I've had to do basically is turn off 4G completely so I stay on 3G all the way. Anyone notice this on other applications on EVO (or the Epic, I guess)? Anyone having issues with pandora, hulu, subsonic, youtube, etc? I remember back before the release of evo at the big new york event they said transition between 4G and 3G would be smooth but my personal experience has shown it not to be while streaming.
