Nexus :: Trackball Wake / ROM With It Built In?
Jun 29, 2010
Sorry for the noob question but I had this before I let my girlfriend use the phone and I can't find it now.
I was running Cyano before but I'm on FRF50 now. Is there any rooted apps that I can use for this or does it have to be a ROM with it built in?

Having come from an iPhone I find it somewhat annoying that I can't use the lovely trackball to wake my nexus one from standby.I realize it could be a problem if you pressed it in your pocket as it sticks out but I'd like to have the option to do it.Does anyone know if it is possible?

Immediately after I booted my phone up after the update my trackball was glowing green telling me I had an email. I never set it to green. Id like to figure out how to change the trackball colors. I went through all the settings I could think of but apparently I missed it. Where is this located?

Noticed this happen about 2-3 times since I got the phone on launch day... In fact, it just happened again. Was wondering if anyone else had this problem.I've noticed sometimes when I leave my phone alone (standby, screen turned off, etc) and try to wake my phone, the phone does not power back on at all. And yes, battery still has a good amount of charge left.I can press the power/wake button but no response. No unlock screen, nothing. I hold the power/wake button and it does not boot either. Only a battery pull will allow the phone to boot go back to normal again.Anyone have this problem before?

The only notification light I am seeing is the trackball glowing every 10 seconds. The spec sheet makes it seem like the led above the screen is also supposed to be used for notification ala my G1. I tested it using sms and email and the notification ringt one rings but then no flashing led, just the pulsing white trackball every 10 seconds. One thing I really liked on my G1 was seeing the notification led's and being able to tell if it's an email, missed call, or sms by the color of the led flashing. Is anyone else's led notifying them? Oh, and my led isn't broken. When I plug it in to charge it's orange and turns green when finished charging.

I don't have bluetooth on and have been using 2.2 build frf83 for about a week and yesterday while watching tv i noticed the change. Has anyone else encountered this problem. oh yeah if the phone rings then it starts flashing white but after i hang up it will return to the constant blue.

Anybody else having this problem in 2.2? I'm not sure if it ever worked or whether it stopped working since I did the update last night. I tried changing the pulse notification light setting and doing a reboot bit no luck. I googled the problem and a few other people have reported the same problem but no solutions.
I've only tested email notifications and app updates.

I'm kind of new in android AOSP development, and I'm trying to click to the trackball and launch an app already installed (Camera App). I'm looking at the policy.androdoid, but i just doesn't understand how to gain controls of the hardware buttons and where to start.

Current iPhone owner thinking about making the switch to the Verizon Nexus One. I have a concern about the usability of the power (wake) button on the top left of the Nexus One that I haven't heard anyone else mention so perhaps it isn't as big of an issue as I anticipate. Basically my concern is that the hand position and motion required to wake the device using that button is not the same position you want your hand to be in to use the phone. For example, with the iPhone I wake my device with the bottom "home" button that is on the face of the device and then I can very quickly just move my thumb up to swipe-to-unlock without having to reposition the phone. It seems like this would not be possible with the Nexus One given that there isn't a wake button on the face of the phone near the bottom.I'd really love to hear from current Nexus One owners. Is this not the usability issue that I am making it out to be? Do you just adjust and find a new way of quickly waking and then swiping to unlock the phone that is just as comfortable and efficient as with the iPhone? If so, what do you do?

I'm new here & was wondering if there was any way to make it so that the trackball blinks more often than it does when I have a notification? It really irritates me how slow the rate is. I have to stare at it for like 10 seconds to know if I have a new message or not in class!

I have been searching for a way to get my trackball to flash when a calendar reminder goes off. It flashes on calls, text, email e.t.c. but not calendar?? I keep missing reminders because I'm away from my phone when the audible goes off and then I don't know it's happened....unless... I could have the trackball flashing too.
Does anyone know how to make the trackball flash when a calendar alert goes off?

I'm trying to set up a tasker profile that will save some time (and my phones hardware...).
In a nutshell: When using a particular app, I would like the screen to turn off after a short period of time, but (and here's the bit I can't figure out) allow it to be unlocked just by touching the screen (i.e. no hardware button presses required). Is this possible with Tasker?

I have done many of reverse engineering for other electronics in the past, Since Im new to android I was wondering before even wasting my time if is possible to port, or built a rom from sources or a phone thatis NOT External SD built in to a phone that it have the external sd built in.
Making it short can I try to reverse engineer the android code from a Nexus 5 (no ext_sd) to other device that have ext_sd built in?
If is possible where should I be looking to start trying making some development on this as I haven't done nothing close quite.

Was just thinking about this - do you think the lack of a ball/pad will further fragment Android?
There's already apps/games that require it. EVO users I reckon will be out of luck. What if a really awesome app arrives later that requires the ball?

I have a new HTC Hero (running new firmware) and all is fine except for one query regarding the trackball sensitivity.Basically it seems way-too sensitive for me, I find that the slightest touch moves it. For example it's very easy to over-shoot scrolling down a web page with multiple links and select the wrong one.I don't know if this is a feature or a fault since I have no other Hero to compare it with. (May be I have fat fingers!)Also I few (rare) times either the trackball has "moved itself" or something else weird has happend because I've seen the centre homescreen move on its own to the right... Which again makes me wonder whether there an issue with the trackball.

Two things I think my Hero could do without7 Home Screens - I really don't need all that real estate on my phone. I think 3 or maybe 5 at the most would have been plenty. I feel compelled to fill each screen with all the really cool widgets but I presume this will have some performance cost on my phone. I know I could use a different Home app, but I'm trying to use Stock applications wherever possible to reduce app clutter.Trackball - I hardly ever use it, apart from maybe some precision clicking on links in the browser. Does anybody else use the trackball extensively.Maybe I'm missing a trick here.
I just sent an email and without thinking about it used the Trackball to navigate the cursor around my message... Looks like the Trackball might actually be quite useful after all.

Is there no built in storage? Is everything on the 8gig card? I wish I could see what is on the card. Rooting....does this allow the phone to perform like stock, but allow me to do the wi-fi hot spot for free? I have also heard that I can tether via USB, not sure how to do this. I have the killer app killer but other than that, the apps are entertainment.

So we all know our Incredible, is well Incredible. But how does it wake you up? Certain app? Song? ETC.
For me after running Lightning Bug all night, my smart alarm clock wakes me up playing Lady gagas Alejandro... :-)
