May 3, 2010I really want to buy one, anyone know?

View 1 RepliesMy wife and I both got Milestones about a month ago. So far so good; we're trying to keep up with the kids on technology. Anyways, we discovered we're unable to receive texts with pics, but are able to send them to iphones users (who can receive them). I asked about it at the Telus store, thinking it was a setting or something, and she said "smart phones can't receive pics by text, you have to email them". Doesn't really sound right... The choice to send a pic by text is an option in the menus, and it seems from reading the forums here that at least in the US, it's possible with the droid. So is this a Telus issue? No big deal, we're just wondering what's up. Even our daughter with a non-smart phone can send/receive pics by text.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of getting the Milestone after many years on the WinMo 6.1 platform (HTC TyTN II), and am very excited at the prospect, but even though I have modded that phone a LOT, I am unfamiliar with the Android OS and Milestone, and was hoping someone could answer a few quick questions, as I'm getting conflicting info reading the posts here...
1. I wanted to get the unbranded / factory unlocked version of Milestone, but looking around I find all those versions are 3G 900/2100 bands, which would not work on NAM 3G 850/1900 networks. Is there a NAM version that can be purchased directly from Motorola?
2. The Telus version seems to be using a custom Telus bootloader. Does that mean this phone has any kind of custom Telus software, startup/shutdown logos showing Telus? I cannot stand customized carrier crap on smart phones and want nothing to do with them
3. I also read a post that says it's now possible to root the Telus Milestone. If I did, does that mean I can put another SBF that has stock Motorola software, and erase everything from Telus?
If I can wipe out all the Telus crap and turn one of theirs into a "clean" Milestone, that would be awesome!
Weird, first time I tried to go to www.rogers.com, and everytime I do browser takes me to http://bell.mobi/primary/. So I own a Telus unlocked Milestone running on Bell, my home page is google.com, I can got to telus site but almost every link I find that is on Rogers, it takes me to that bell site? I found one link that actually brought up the rogers page but as soon as I try to follow another page on that link same thing?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new here and I was wondering which Motorola Milestone to buy. I'm here in America and am trying to decide between these two. I currently have AT&T as my carrier: Motorola Milestone NAM 3G 850/1900 (OEM) (Unlocked). Motorola Milestone NAM (Telus) (Unlocked). Now the Telus one and the OEM one seems to support the same frequency bands for AT&T 3G (HSPA 3G 850/1900). My only question is, what is the difference? I'd like to buy the OEM one because it's cheaper, but I'm wondering if there's more of an advantage to buy the Telus one. I read somewhere that I may have to fiddle with the APN settings to get 3G to work if I get the OEM one. Is this true and are there any other problems with buying the OEM version?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm playing around with some ideas and was wondering if anyone knew of an Android-based device that was basically a cell-phone with no screen.
Here's the requirements I'm looking for: - Support GSM - Single SIM slot or eSIM (3G preferred but not required) - Support GPS - Support BlueTooth - Optionally have an accelerometer - No display (this is an embedded device) - Would be willing to provide my own packaging (raw boards would be ok) I've debated taking the guts out of old G1s for this project. But if there is a specific device that meets my needs all the better. If there's any Manufacturers out there that have Android phone "guts" available, let me know too.
I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice for my possible plan of grabbing a fairly cheap (under 120 so I think that's about $180) HTC handset, preferably with a good size screen as I like to spend far too long online on my current phone (!), and install Android on it!
So... how easy is this? Is there a recommended phone or small range of phones within my price bracket? And... are there disadvantages, and do I get automatic updates and stuff? I'm a fairly heavy medium-term Linux and Ubuntu user but this is my first adventure with Android!
I am using milestone Android 2.1, user from Singapore. Everytime i took a new photo, the time stamp for the photo will be in different timezone (greenwich time), tried set different timezone in setting and reboot the milestone but still got no luck to change the timestamp, anyone met this problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there an app available that allows me to make cheap international calls? So far the only only one ive seen gives you a local access number to dial. But the problem with this is that it uses the inclusive mins from your mobile. Are there any apps that gives cheap rates and uses 3g/WiFi to make the calls?
View 6 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of a cheap Android or programmable device that has wifi? I need it for a project for a company that needs a wifi handheld device for the shop floor. Im not too fussed about the language the device uses though Im not really interested in the iTouch as theres no intention to release the app in the app store and I don`t really want to jail break everybodys iTouch. Ideally it would be small , iTouch size for example and relatively cheap $100 or less. Nothing fancy just ability to write a simple UI and have wifi. Voice is not needed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to this forum. I have been searching around for Android 2.1 to place onto my Hero (GSM) - that IS the one that Telus uses, right? I have found several links which claim to have the download + instructions, but turn out to be dead. Can anyone comment on where to find this update? Is it stable? Are many people running it now? Any ideas when Telus will be releasing the full version?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHere is something interesting about the Milestone. Enable Airplane mode, put it on the charger over night. Wake up to find your Milestone drained. This happens with my Blackberry Curve as well. Airplane mode drains the battery faster than its being charged. Has anyone else seen this? Or am i just getting lucky twice?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Motorola has begun to behave strangely. I think they lost the battery too quickly, so I have yesterday installed Netcounter and a Task Manager to see what it may be due.
Since yesterday, it downloaded 53 MB of data, including 28 MB today. It's too much, because I have hardly used it for anything but standby. There obviously mail pops up on it, but I read them on my PC. I have not used Google Maps, Web browsing or other things.
WiFi is off, but my battery is at 50% (this morning at 7:30 am, it was at 100% - now 4 hours later it's 50%).
Last night the Milestone was warm on the backside, but not where the battery is placed, but closer to where the sender/radio is placed.
Conclusion: Some programs must be running all the time,
1 hour ago I closed all programs using Task Manager.
But now, all these apps seems to be running (according to task manager):
*Netcounter
Phone Portal
Calendar
*Handcent SMS
**Alarm Clock
Music
Settings
Email (ikke google mail)
Maps
Media Gallery
Bluetooth file transfer
Smart Alarm clock
Messaging
Facebook (jeg bruger ikke facebook widget)
MyBackup
Corporate calendar (ikke google kalenderen, men en kalender der kan synkronisere med outlook)
**CalWidget
*Gmail
AK Notepad
Photoshop.com mobile
Practically all programs. I have only used programs marked *
** = programs I can understand if they're running, i.e. widgets
Why does all my programs start? And which are using the Internet?
I looked at settings -> about phone -> battery usage:
android.process.acore: 71%
Facebook: 6%
display 5%
Android system 5%
Phone idle 4%
Cell standby 3%
Google 3%
Android os 2%
Cell Standby should be >90% since I've not using the phone today.
Any ideas? Should I erase all and restart? Or is it because I have not updated yet (still running the 2.0 version from out of the box)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am unable to use Gtalk, gmail, Maps, Market, Email (all pre installed) using GPRS/EDGE (Vodafone Live) on my Milestone. But All of these works with Wi-Fi connection. I installed Meeboo Messanger, this is also not working with GPRS/EDGE.
I called Motorola Customer care, they are saying that I have to take a DataPlan from Vodafone and should ask Vodafone to activate all GPRS/EDGE settings on my mobile. So I took a DataPlan (200 Rs. 100 MB), Vodafone People are saying that all available setting are already activated on my cell. But I am still unable to use any of them above. Every time no network connection found error is coming.
When i take a photo in the dark just using the flash with a close up photo of an object. Half sometimes 3/4 of the screen is black, i have a feeling its and app because i sent it back to motorola and the re-flashed the phone, it was working fine until i restored all my apps using "my backup pro" and now i have the same problem as before.I need to find out which app is causing the problem.I also find that the camera doesnt work at full flash capacity because when i press the camera button to focus the testing flash is alot brighter than the flash it uses to take the actual photo.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI just got a milestone yesterday, and I was fascinated by it. The only thing that kills me, is that it doesn't take permission to connect to the internet. I used to have a Nokia, which always had to take my permission first to connect to 3G internet network.
But with the milestone, it doesn't, and I get charged for every single 1kb used I just lost what is equivalent to $10 USD in the last 5 mins for just trying to open Google and download the SlideME app. is there some kind of hidden tasks that uses the internet or something ?
One more thing, today morning, I opened facebook after recharging my credit balance with 20 USD. And guess what ? They're all gone too for just opening the home page! if I have an active internet connection, how can I close it ?
Does anyone know where to get a good pouch style case for the milestone? I've looked through eBay, but they are all generic ones which are either too small or big.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEverything seems damn fast and it's so simple to set up. Only problem is that I have set up my work e-mail (which sits on a server and is a POP-3 account I think!...can you tell I'm not technical?!?!) using the in-built client on the phone, trouble is that it keeps crashing and has to do a force close on me pretty much every time. I've looked for this same topic in the forum but cant find anything which answers the issue. Is the next software release likely to fix this bug?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to reboot a crashed milestone when the power button is non responsive? WITHOUT pulling the bat I'm using a case thats a bit of a PITA to remove and when the phone crashes im getting a bit tired of tearing it apart just to get to the battery is there a key command on the keyboard to cut power?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a Motorola Milestone and would like to mount it to my Linux (Suse 11.2) without the use of the media cradle. With the cradle, you pop the phone on, connect your USB cable to the cradle and to the computer, and -- very important! -- switch your cradle from "charge" to "sync". Then your Milestone is immediately recognised as a USB mass storage device and all is fine. But without the cradle? The phone charges from USB but won't talk to my Linux. There is absolutely nothing in the syslogs, so it looks like the phone is not behaving as a USB-enabled device. It seems from the above that I should switch my phone from the charging mode to sync, but does anyone know how to do it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have now been using the overclocking function for over a month and would like to report on the settings found to be most effective.
I use a combination of apps to achieve excellent battery consumption (1 1/2 days generally).
1. Screebl, set to 15 seconds.
2. Milestone Overclock, set to custom 1000 MHz @ 69 vsel
3. SetCPU general 1000/500 with charge 250/1000 and sleep 250/500
Ive found that the 125 MHz setting does not push enough juice to the radios and i sometimes get glitches with the touch panel/ dialler when SetCPUs ondemand governor is waking up to a call or 3g connection.
Also, the lowered vsel value of 69 seems to save a half day's battery as opposed to standard 1000 MHz/ 72 vsel offered by Milestone Overclock.
Screebl is a must for anyone who doesnt have it, as its simply the most effective battery manager out there. Would like a five seconds option though
How to do it?
in contact, menu button will show display option
display option>>only contacts with phones / Choose contacts to display (email acc)
Anyone know where the best place to get Milestone cases? I'm looking for the rubber skin kind. I have two of the hard plastic type and they crack real easy. I also have the belt clipping one that turns the phone around and hides the touch screen on you belt.
View 16 Replies View RelatedSo I had several micro-USB sitting around from monoprice (I ordered the wrong cables a year ago, and they happened to be micro at $1 a pop I wasn't so concerned with sending them back) and after shaving the tops down a bit with a dremel (so I could still slide the kb open) I tried them out. I can charge with a wall-to-USB charging base or with the cable plugged into my PC, but I can't use them for any sort of data sync apparently. I'm really wondering if I'm just suffering from badly made cheap cables, or if there's something actually different between these and the cable that came with the phone. Anyone have any idea? Has anyone been using micro USB cables that they found for a good deal online?
