Motorola Droid :: What Should Know About Updating ROMs?
Jul 25, 2010I know, the information is probably out there if I spent more time trying to cajole the information out of my good friend Google, but he's been feeling unhelpful today, so I figured I would ask here. I am currently running Bugless Beast .4, and of course, I may want to change or upgrade in the future. I know that most of my settings and information is saved to the SD card, and that in theory I could move SOME apps there. That said, I want to understand what a "nandroid backup" is, and how changing ROMs affects your otherwise installed applications. Is there a good app anyone can recommend to back up and restore applications if they are lost?

Jul 24, 2010Anyone having trouble with widgets stop updating? Like my clock/calendar/weather/news/pretty much any widget i have stops updating after an hour. So i look at my clock widget two hours later and it is an hour behind. Happens to ALL my widgets.Even the quick turn on/off wifi,bt,gps and such. They just stop updating/showing animation.I have ADW launcher installed. I am wondering if it is that. I do not really want to remove it as i hate the stock 3 button interface at the bottom (why do i need a contacts and phone, just use the phone to look thru contacts, wasted space IMO) and am quite keen on keeping the 5 button.Any ideas? If i power off the phone and turn it back on it's fine again for about an hour. SOmetimes randomly thru the day it will start updating and working fine again then randomly stop again.

Nov 3, 2010So last night I finally got around to unlocking NAND and loading Myns 2.2 RLS2. I like this rom so far. My bluetooth now works like it is supposed as opposed to Fresh.But my radios are a little behind with Myns. I thought about updating them to the newest versions as linked in the Fresh thread, but I was wondering. Are the radios tweaked for the specific roms or will all radios (and wimax, PRI, PRL, and NV) work with all roms?

Whats the difference between a 2.0.1 ROM and 2.1 ROM?
I've been rooted for awhile and always stuck with either AdamZ ROM or Pete's Bugless Beast and they were all based off of 2.0.1. Is there something special I need to do in order to run a ROM based off of 2.1?
Motorola Droid :: Updating To 2.2
Aug 19, 2010My Droid appears to have an issue, and I'm hoping someone here can help. It is completely stock. I've searched this and other forums, but can't find anyone with a similar issue. My phone is not bricked, but I would really like to update to 2.2.
When Android 2.1 came out, I did a manual update and had no issues completing it.
When 2.2 came out, I tried the manual update like normal. Held the X key while powering up, and the Motorola logo came up. Then the phone shut down, and the logo came up again. As long as I hold down the X, this continues to happen.
Late last week, I got the notice on my phone that the update was ready to install. I tapped Install Now, and the phone shut down and restarted in a similar manner as described above.
Crap. So, I can't get into Recovery Mode. At all.
So, I decided to attempt a factory reset through the Settings Menu. Same thing happens. Moto logo comes up, the the phone shuts down. Then powers back up like nothing happened.
I took it to the VZW store. Was essentially told to wait a bit, and that they would do a warranty exchange if the phone became unusable.
I did the Motorola Support Chat, and was told that VZW should be getting a tool to help, but it seemed like the rep didn't really understand what I was describing.
Motorola Droid :: Why App Not Updating?
Aug 8, 2010So Weather & Toggle Widget, Local News, Audio Manager Widget, BBC News and Titanium Backup * Root won't update. The hang at the start of the DL in marketplace. Anyone have any ideas? I'm running 2.2 kangerade V5.0.9. I haven't had any other problems and a lot of other apps have been updating regularly for a week or so now.

Sep 22, 2010I'm a bit noobish since this is my first Android phone, so please forgive me. I rooted my Droid X running 2.1 using the GUI program. I used Root Explorer to rename a few bloatware apps. I did not make any other changes, just installed Titanium Backup and used it to make a backup. To successfully install the OTA update to 2.2, what do I need to do? I read that I need to restore the bloatware. Do I also need to unroot first? I've also read in a couple places something about moving Superuser.apk from bin to xbin. Is that what I need to do to stay rooted in 2.2?

Nov 15, 2010Ok so I've searched the forums high and low. But I haven't been able to get a clear answer or solution. But anyway I did the Froyo update on Oct 7th. Im really lovein the flash capability. But since then none of my widgets are updating. Face book, social network, Recent messages and news. When I try to update a status on my social network one it jus says, "can't send update. Message failure. " And I have the orange triangle with exclamation point on most of my messaging icons. So I just need to know if this is either a soft where fix I need to wait for. Or is their something I can do to fix this myself.

Nov 10, 2010So I hear there is a new SBF that works with the new bootloader?I have 2.3.15, but I never did the OTA update. What is the easiest way for me to get up to date with the new radio? Currently I have 30.01 bootloader.I read that I can use the FULL 2.2 SBF file to update the bootloader and the more importantly, the Radio. I am wondering however if I need to remove remove Bootstrap or Unroot first? I would imagine I do not, but you can never be too careful, there seems to be alot of misinformation, and I'm digging up posts where some people say the Full 2.2 SBF will not update the bootloader.

Sep 10, 2010My gmail account on the DX is not updating properly.I had 5 emails this morning.I read them and deleted them, plus deleted a few older emails. The phone looks normal like they were deleted. Later I restarted and the phone said I had 5 more emails...and they were the exact same ones I deleted in the morning.So I deleted again and then logged into gmail...they were still in gmail as unread. Seems like I don't have communication back to gmail. Is this a phone issue or are others experiencing this - maybe it's a gmail problem?

Jun 10, 2010So I'm running FRF57 and everything works great sans one bug noted today. It seems there is an update for ROM Manager, but when my phone tried to apply the update it just hangs. If I cancel it, Market FCs and then when I relaunch the Market it happens again.
Am I the only one experiencing this issue?

Feb 21, 2010I have seen this mentioned quite often here in the rooting forums, and was getting curious. A lot of people are stating that they are losing root when updating one of Pete's roms. I have loaded about all of them and haven't noticed I lost anything. I do have to reinstall busybox everytime though.. is this what people are referring to when they say "root"? Or am I missing something that I should probably go back and fix?

Jul 19, 2010So I set up my outlook email for work on my X. I checked the Email Delivery settings --> Fetch Schedule and saw that "Every 15 Minutes" is the most often it can do. Is this the setting that tells the phone get inbox updates? I need my work emails updated atleast every minute, is there a way to do this for ONLY this email account? (Not my gmail, or any other email account)Maybe a workaround would be to have a text sent to me whenever something new is in the Outlook inbox?

Oct 5, 2010I of course have froyo in my X. However since froyo updated I have been hoping that my apps would update, they are not. I have checkmarked the allow auto update box, even updated some of them manually once afterwords. I have taken the market off my task killer list. I only check it about twice a day, and everytime I have an update (not a manual update but a yellow font update)..nothing happens, I can let it sit on the market downloads screen or sleep my phone or do whatever and it just does not update my apps..does anyone have any ideas as too why this is? Perhaps something is off or being killed by my task killer? I have the two arrows on in the power management android widget (found this out by my gmail not snycing and receiving automatically). Any help is appreciated as I am at a loss as too why this isn't working..my friends droid updates her apps about twice a day.

Jun 13, 2010I've had my Droid since February and have it rooted. I've been using Smoked Glass v6.0.1 ROM and now I'm ready to change things up. I have ROM manager premium but I'm too overwhelmed by all the choices. I've been trying to research the different ROMs out there but there are too many.
Can we make a list here of what ROMs do what? For instance I've read Bugless Beast is great for speed but Ultimate Droid is better if you want looks and don't care about speed. Don't even get me started on CyanogenMod. There are way to many options with that one.

Mar 22, 2010In here you can put what rom you are running and all the info, OC range kernels all that, and a screen shot of the main home screen. and you can discuss on which one is better. what one has that the other doesn't and etc.... i like talking about all that for some reason.
I'm running CYANOGEN MOD 5.0.5 W/ 24K THEME AND OC RANGE OF 1000-800MHZ. I have in the past run simmply stunning and smoked glass and droid mod and the desire build roms. i find cyanogen to be the smoothest and most customizable to me. I also like the updater its all very easy to use.
cons: i dont like clockwork recovery, im use to SPRecovery.
All in all CYANOGEN MOD IS THE BEST TO ME.

Sep 13, 2010I rooted my X with the androot, downloaded all of the apps that was in the app list to get once rooted, downloaded FlyX and installed, however once the phone restarted, stuck on the big M luckily i had a backup ready to go so i restored the phone, last night however i wasnt so lucky, i tried the new 2.3 update, and well lets say big M for 30 mins til i was able to flash it back to stock. i know i am doing these steps the correct way, i make a backup each time, and i check the cache data.

Aug 5, 2010So I have stock android 2.1 installed on my phone. I haven't gotten the OTA update. I tried to manually update, but recovery mode doesn't seem like its working - I see the triangle/question mark but there is also a phone laying down right next to it. No combination of keys will get me to a menu to apply the update.zip. I tried flashing back to 2.01 and 2.0 and updating from there - but the recovery mode stayed the same. Does anyone know where to find the full Froyo stock .SBF files?
