Motorola Droid :: Update Killed My Phone - Will Not Even Turn Off Unless Take The Battery Out

Apr 4, 2010

Yesterday I clicked the update button on my droid, and now my droid is dead, all that appears is the motorola logo, even after pulling the battery. Of course technical support at Verizon has no clue what is wrong. The phone will not even turn off unless i take the battery out, the motorola logo shows until the phone goes dead.

As this is my second droid, I don't know that I want a 3rd one. My opinion is that the droid would be a neat smartphone-- if it worked. I doubt that anyone could ever consider using the droid as a business phone, since it randomly quits working. I've had many cell phones and blackberries and never had to return any of them.

I have the best buy protection plan, but not sure that entitles me to a new or different phone, since my droid is about 3 months old.

If I'm someplace that has WiFi am I better off enabling that whenever I can instead of using 3G even if I have the phone in standby or will that use more battery? HTC Hero :: Apps Not Being Killed On 2.1-update

Aug 3, 2010

My message apps (native Message and Handcent app) keep on reappearing, even when I kill them.

I've used the Settings > Applications > Running services, also Advanced Task Killer (by ReChild) and Task Manager (by Futon Redemption), but after a few minutes they'll reappear again.

This has only happened after I updated my Hero from 1.5 to 2.1. (I'm on Orange).

This seems to be a reoccurring theme of apps not being killed off after updating to 2.1. Others have reported Amazon MP3 and Skype apps not being killed off and even not uninstalling.

My battery life seems to be draining away now since the 2.1 update, and I'm thinking this may be the message-app-not-sleeping problem, hence my attempts at killing off the native message app.

Does anyone have any ideas to kill these apps off?

Motorola Droid : JIT Benchmark / Enabling JIT Is Negatively Impacting Score

Jan 30, 2010

I have a Droid running 2.0.1 (rooted) with 2.1 music, weather and news, gallery, but not launcher. Standard apps plus Home++. I enabled JIT via DroidRootPro and ran some pre and post benchmarks. Note: I am not using any custom ROM or overclocking. Overall the results seem quite promising with pretty substantial gains in most categories.

However, some have me perplexed so i'm hoping someone in this community can clarify it for me. I'm attaching my benchmark scores and you'll notice a few rows have a question mark because i don't understand why enabling JIT is negatively impacting the score. I would appreciate any insight into what JIT does and why it might impact some of the scores, mostly the time to completion ones (time in seconds) and specifically the graphics ones.

P.S. I'm sure there's some better way to attach this sort of thing. I had to size it way down to meet the restrictions. If there's a better way just let me know and i'll redo it.

Motorola Droid :: Killed - No Service No Battery Life And Keeps Rebooting Itself

Aug 10, 2010

Recently, I installed FRG01B. I had no problems with it except for the fact that I couldn't get the phone to mute.

I noticed that there was a really cool version of FRG22 out by Liquid Frozen Yogurt 1.3 (FRG22).

I downloaded RSD Lite, SPRecovery_ESE81.sbf, and I downloaded the 64 bit drivers for the Droid. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64bit. I got the files from this page: FRG01B.SBF for Droid courtesy of RootzWiki - Droid Releases - AllDroid Public Board - FRG01B.SBF for Droid courtesy of RootzWiki - Droid Releases - AllDroid Public Board - AllDroid.org > Home

Anyway, I installed RSD Lite and the drivers. I opened RSD Lite and opened the SPRecovery_ESE81.sbf file. I clicked show device, but nothing was showing up in the window, but below it said connected. I clicked START. After my phone rebooted, it's shot. No service, no battery life, and it keeps rebooting itself. What can I do! Someone please help! My Gmail address is chim777@gmail.com and I will be available for chat as well. I will keep checking this thread every few minutes. Someone please help as I have no clue what the hell I did. All I wanted to do was root my phone.

Motorola Droid :: Google Talk Opens Even When Off/closed/killed

Mar 17, 2010

So, not much of a Google Talk user, but now and then. And, I mostly use it via my desktop gMail app.. not on my phone.

Anyway, I close out the Talk app, but no matter what, even if it is closed, killed, off, it activates itself when someone sends me a chat.. even if I am logged on via my gMail account.

How the heck can you shut it off? What is it that makes it start up because someone wants to chat. I see no way to stop it and I am not always in the mood or able to chat and do not want to be disturbed but this Google Talk seems to start up and alert you anyway.

Samsung EPIC 4G :: Update Killed My Battery Life

Sep 21, 2010

Ever since I have downloaded and installed the latest update I have been seeing horrible battery life.

With airplane mode on I have been experiencing 2-3% decrease in battery per hour with NO USE!

This is completely rediculous and unacceptable. Do they even test these updates before they push them out to eveyone?

I have juice defender and an autokill app. I was getting 1 1/2 days before the update. I am lucky to make it to bed now before my battery is dead. I have alost noticed a lot more running services popping up then before and I have no idea what the issue is

I am getting really sick and tired of this phone really fast... If they don't have these problems fixed by the 30th. Its going right back to the sprint store and I am going back to the iphone.

Motorola Droid :: Insured Droid Killed By Car - Replace

Aug 21, 2010

How to deleteTook a ride on my motorcycle last night with Droid in clip on case on my pocket. Drove about 1 1/2 miles when I realized it had fallen out of its holder. I back tracked and found nothing. Then my wife and I took my truck and went along the same route-nothing. Then (at this point mainly worrying about all the data in it if someone had picked it up) I walked with a flashlight the whole route while looking off the side of the road-still nothing. This morning I decided to take my bicycle and give it another try. About 1 mile from my house I spotted the rubber protector that surrounds the screen still near the edge of the road. I got off the bike and found the main section in a hedge so I have the battery and sim card. About 30 ft further I found the screen folded over and crushed. So I guess the battery and card might be ok but the rest is trashed. This one is insured by Asurion with an $89. deductible. (I ran over my previous Droid with my riding mower just this last May and I had to pay full price for a new one as it was not insured). I started a claim online with Asurion and the Droids are on backorder according to the site. I did this last night and reported it lost and possibly then stolen. Now at least I have the pieces.Does anyone think I might have a chance to get it replaced at the Verizon store?

Motorola Milestone :: Enabling WiFi AdHoc Network Connection On Handset?

Sep 17, 2010

Just picked up an unlocked Milestone and I popped in my prepaid T-Mobile card and I have my home WiFi network bur for data on the go I need to use the 3G connection of my iPad via WiFi. Problem is that the WiFi network it creates is an AdHoc one and as I found Android can't connect to AdHoc networks by default. Standard on WinMp and iOS so what possessed them to do that?

After some digging around I found a guide to enable AdHoc on rooted Androphones How to connect an android phone to your ad-hoc wi-fi network | Wissam Idrissi so I spent a few hours rooting and installing the proper apps. No go though, my AdHoc network does appear in the list with MySSD : "Not in range, remembered" but it never connects. Has anyone managed to connect to an AdHoc network on a Milestone with 2.1?

HTC Droid Eris :: Wifi Won't Reconnect Automatically When In Range Or By Enabling Wifi

Sep 8, 2010

It's done this twice now (before and after factory reset). 2.1 OTA, not rooted.

Whenever I turn on the wifi, or I become in range of my WPA2 network, it doesn't always connect. I say "always" because it seems to be random. If I toggle wifi on or off, it doesn't always connect. Sometimes it connects after 30+ seconds. Every other device connects just fine.

The only sure way to get it to connect is to force it to rescan, usually by going to Settings and displaying all SSIDs in range. THEN it connects, always and immediately.

The even sillier thing is, it will alert me of open networks, but never connect to my own saved network.

Motorola Droid X :: Enabled Auto Matic Update For Market Apps Still Won't Auto Update

Sep 26, 2010

So one of the cool things about Froyo is being able to check off Enable Automatic Update for market apps. So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.

Android :: Enabling Camera In Emulator

Jun 19, 2009

I've just noticed that launching the Camera and Camcorder (in the emulator) would result in a black screen (instead of the famous moving small boxes), i've looked for why this happening on the net, apparently that the camera is disabled by default when you create an AVD. Decided to create another AVD with the camera enabled and launched it and still getting that black screen. Anyone has any idea how to fix this ?

My problem in the first place is that my application is using the default camera application using intents just like in the following: Intent imageCaptureIntent = new Intent (MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); imageCaptureIntent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, Uri.fromFile(new File("/sdcard/imageCaptureIntent.jpg"))); startActivityForResult(imageCaptureIntent, WHATEVER_REQ_CODE); I thought that there's a problem in my intent request but like i said before, running the camera on the emulator itself is the problem. By the way, You can run the "camera preview" in the API demos with no problems, how come!
