With the new Froyo update, my app is being killed instead of running in the background. Is there anything I can do to stop this?
I'm wondering if I'm not alone in this: I have a rooted Evo 4G LTE running Jelly Bean/Paranoid Android 2.13. I'm running into an issue with running audio apps like Google Play Music and Doggcatcher. Basically sometimes if I'm playing something and I switch to another app, a few moments or minutes later the audio dies and the audio app gets killed. I can tell because when I enter back into Doggcatcher, the loading screen starts up as if it wasn't running before. Is this a case of over aggressive task killing? Is there a way to prevent this at all?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI found that Qik has been modified as part of this update and was running in the background trying to sync vmail and other features. I saw it was active when viewing the Running Services list. There were 2 Qik apps running in the background that I had to FC then reopen the Qik program, sign in, go to Menu/Settings and redo some stuff in there.
Even when hitting the Exit button from Qik those 2 services would still run. The only way, I think, to NOT have them running is to completely sign out of your Qik account and leave it that way. If you want to use Qik then you'd have to sign in again each time. But once you do then those synchronizers run in the background even though you exit.
I noticed on both our EVO's that the battery usage changed quite a bit since yesterday's update which had me scouring through all the settings to see what was up. I discovered the Qik stuff as well as the Sprint Zone settings had be reset to all services/notifications 'on' so I had to switch them off as well.
As is mentioned above,What i'm trying is to protect a sub- thread, and keep it going on as long as the App that starts it is still alive. In other words,If the system need more resources,Let it kill both the App main thread and the sub-thread started from it,Instead of just kill the sub-thread.Is there any way i can do this ?? And another question here,The android system seems to be "rude",As it killed my thread without telling me,even in the logs,Is this the case?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've noticed the GPS icon at the top of the screen even when I'm not in a GPS app. It's definitely affecting my battery life. I've rebooted the phone a few times. I used Google Maps last night, but closed it before I went to bed. This morning my battery was really low and the GPS icon was still sitting there. My wife noticed a similar occurrence of GPS running more than expected on her Droid X as well.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHas anyone noticed that there are lots of apps that are autostarting with the new froyo update. I have to constantly open Advanced task Killer to kill these apps. Things like, skype, google search, and contacts for example. Any way to keep these from autostarting every 5 seconds... its like they start immediately after I kill them.
View 10 Replies View RelatedOn Froyo, we found that some new "Task Manager" apps are now using the ActivityManager.killBackgroundProcesses() to kill apps. When this happens, Intent.ACTION_PACKAGE_RESTARTED is no longer fired. How can I find out that my application has been killed? I tried to start a service, and I do see this message printed in logcat:
W/ActivityManager( 2426): Scheduling restart of crashed service com.example.android.apis/.app.RemoteService in 20000ms
However, the service is never restarted as advertised, if the app is killed using the killBackgroundProcesses API. (If I go into adb shell and kill the service process, the service will indeed be restarted ...) This looks like a bug anyway, because the notification created by the app is no longer removed like in eclair (the StatusBarService, and a bunch of other system services, depend on the Intent.ACTION_PACKAGE_RESTARTED broadcast).
I'm having another problem with my milestone that I'd like to share with developers and Android coders: Whenever I run memory-intensive applications while I have an IM app running in the background, the IM app is often killed without any user notification whatsoever.Take this scenario for instance (works every time on my Milestone): A few background apps are already running: Sipdroid, Locale, Titanium Backup's service... 2. Launch Nimbuzz (or Fring, eBuddy or Meebo - it's reproducible on all of them) 3. Use lots of memory - for instance with a browser (open lots of windows will full desktop sites), or by launching multiple memory- intensive applications at once (Maps Navigation or other navigation apps work well)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI noticed today that Froyo re-enabled "auto sign in" in Gtalk. I unchecked it, problem solved. If you're getting bad battery life after the update, make sure Gtalk is NOT auto signing you in. That's one of the biggest battery hogs. Just figured I'd post this to let everyone know a potential problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't do a few things ever since I downloaded the latest update.
Sprint Tv is bricked.
I open it up and get this error: "Resource Fetch Failed"
If I try to press back a few boxes appear underneath.
Basically, it wont work.
Also my hotspot wont work... well, it never worked.
I try to update profiles and all that good stuff and no go.
My message apps (native Message and Handcent app) keep on reappearing, even when I kill them.
I've used the Settings > Applications > Running services, also Advanced Task Killer (by ReChild) and Task Manager (by Futon Redemption), but after a few minutes they'll reappear again.
This has only happened after I updated my Hero from 1.5 to 2.1. (I'm on Orange).
This seems to be a reoccurring theme of apps not being killed off after updating to 2.1. Others have reported Amazon MP3 and Skype apps not being killed off and even not uninstalling.
My battery life seems to be draining away now since the 2.1 update, and I'm thinking this may be the message-app-not-sleeping problem, hence my attempts at killing off the native message app.
Does anyone have any ideas to kill these apps off?
I updated and now i cannot recieve calls or send texts...will not hard reset to 1.6 now...T-mobile has no clue how to fix it..

View 4 Replies View RelatedEver since I have downloaded and installed the latest update I have been seeing horrible battery life.
With airplane mode on I have been experiencing 2-3% decrease in battery per hour with NO USE!
This is completely rediculous and unacceptable. Do they even test these updates before they push them out to eveyone?
I have juice defender and an autokill app. I was getting 1 1/2 days before the update. I am lucky to make it to bed now before my battery is dead. I have alost noticed a lot more running services popping up then before and I have no idea what the issue is
I am getting really sick and tired of this phone really fast... If they don't have these problems fixed by the 30th. Its going right back to the sprint store and I am going back to the iphone.
Yesterday I clicked the update button on my droid, and now my droid is dead, all that appears is the motorola logo, even after pulling the battery. Of course technical support at Verizon has no clue what is wrong. The phone will not even turn off unless i take the battery out, the motorola logo shows until the phone goes dead.
As this is my second droid, I don't know that I want a 3rd one. My opinion is that the droid would be a neat smartphone-- if it worked. I doubt that anyone could ever consider using the droid as a business phone, since it randomly quits working. I've had many cell phones and blackberries and never had to return any of them.
I have the best buy protection plan, but not sure that entitles me to a new or different phone, since my droid is about 3 months old.
Is anyone else having problems with the advanced task killer since 2.2 update? Battery is running down fast because task killer no longer works.
View 36 Replies View RelatedI have an EVO and I have a problem with it. I downloaded the app Advanced Task Killer to take care of apps running in the background. However sometimes when I pull it up I find that things like Sprint Navigation, Qik, Voice Dialer, and sometimes others are running without me pulling them up. My question is, how do I keep these apps from doing this, because they kill my battery when they come on and I don't know it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am new to Android, previous Crack Berry addict here. On the BB I could load Google Maps (including Latitude) to keep my position updated on Google Latitude online (I use it when I go riding on my motorcycle to give my wife a way to check if I'm still moving (= not dead)). Even if I shut down Maps, I could elect to have Latitude run in the background, so it would still update my position. How do I do this in Android? When I 'exit' Maps, it shuts it down, including Latitude, as far as I can tell. Can Android run Latitude in the background, or do I need to keep Maps open all the time?

View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery so often I check my memory with Advanced Task Manager and I see certain applications running in the background and my available memory has dropped quite a bit. Now I am using the HTC Incredible so I still have about 127 MB free, however what concerns me the most is why the programs are even launching themselves in the first place. I could see some application having to start themselves, like a twitter client or an email client, however one of the programs that seems to be launching itself is the eBay app. I installed the app in case I wanted to view an ebay listing however I never use the program and it still seems to launch itself. Is this an example of a poor application design (i.e. ebay app) or is there some other reason these programs are launching themselves?
