Motorola Droid :: Motorola Droid / Milestone Update Petition
Jan 5, 2010
Unlike our US counterpart (Motorola Droid) the European Motorola Milestone/ users are not currently given any updates at all. The update server does not respond, as such we are stuck with 2.0 and with well known documented problems. Some of which make the device not usable.

I wonder if this means they are getting ready to release the update. I'll postagain if an update becomes available.

Milestone Overclock consists of a kernel module for OMAP3 phones with Android to unlock any processor frequency/voltage combination and a companion graphical app to ease the configuration. The phone must be rooted so that the kernel module can be loaded. The module has an interface in /proc/overclock/* that allows enabling and disabling of overclock in runtime without rebooting. No flashing of custom roms or kernels is needed, since that is not even possible with the Milestone, Droid X and others.

Did you guys notice how the speaker on the Milestone/Droid gets dirty, it's like a magnet for dust and lint, and once it's in there, it won't come out.I just found a little trick to clean it out:
1- Just grab a little amout of "fun-tak" or any other sticky putty.
2- Push it into the speaker hole, and the dust will come out with it when you remove it.
3- Rince and repeat
I was so glad to finally get it clean, that I had to share it.

My phone is not rooted. When I select check for system updates, it does everything normally, I select install now, the installing icon appears, loads half way and reboots. When it starts up again, I get a pop-up saying that the update failed! I repeated this process a few times and I give up. Is there any other way to update my milestone?

Does anyone have a list of differences between the Droid and Milestone?I have a Milestone but most of the information on the Web is about the Droid. My current concern is about the amount of user flash memory. All information relating to the Droid states that there is 256MB available for user apps, yet on my Milestone, it only shows 197MB available?

i'm new to Android, still have much to learn.I'm wondering if we can take the startup bootanimation and the sound droiiiiidd of Droid into the Milestone. The startup of Milestone is so plain. Not really impressive.I already asked, there are some suggestions that adb push and pull to attach these new things into the Milestone. It's just "really hard" to me.1 more thing, the operating system doesnt not recognize my phone.I'm using win 7, i did install the Android SDK, typed : adb , it said : Cant not find the device (The Milestone). <- Must be solved first.

I am using Motorola Milestone UK version with AT & T. G Mail and Yahoo etc work fine. Data plan also work perfect wih At&T 2G. AT&T 3 G can not use with Milestone because 3 G band of AT & T is not supoerted by Milestone.
However, real problem is that when I call anybody, he always finds my voice breaks on Milestone. When I switch to speaker they find my voice perfect. I can hear their voice clearly. Any body has same problem.
Secondly, I would like to dowload "Car Home" app which is available with Droid. It is not available in Market place. When I try to see how it is intsalled in my friend's droid, it shows 0 KB. Does this app is part of Android for Verizon. When I dock the phone in Car dock, as I dont have Car home app so phone does not pop up Navigation window which is part of Car Home. I can use Google Map manually. This is not big problem.

After looking at comparison videos of the quality of 720p video compared to that of the Samsung Galaxy and Iphone 4g, should we be asking HTC for a true HD codec for compression? We have a very powerful device in the EVO 4G, but it is clear that there are a few shortcomings in terms of the software tools provided to unlock that power.

Our device has the ability to record up to 720p video, but is bottlenecked by an outdated compression method. This post is to start an OFFICIAL Petition for HTC to offer us an update that will allow us to gain full access to this feature. We are only asking that our EVO's be given the ability to compress HD content properly. Chime in to join this OFFICIAL Petition.

The way I feel right now is best described by Peter Griffin's quote from Family Guy - "Now I may be an idiot, but there is one thing I am not, sir, and that, sir, is an idiot."
I don't consider myself an idiot, but I feel like one when searching for instructions on how to update to android 2.1. Tried googling the search term "how to update motorola milestone to android 2.1" (among many others) and got a page entitled Motorola Android Software Upgrade News with a table of countries and timelines. What happened to the good old copying of the same tutorial and posting it on your site and re-posting the same video tutorial on YouTube, which made it very easy to find? I found some SHOULS files and a video on YouTube of some guy doing a tutorial which I didn't fully understand. And of course there is also the risk of breaking your phone and since I just got it 2-3 weeks ago I'm still very careful with it. So please explain to me this mystical process or just give me some helpful links, I would REALLY appreciate it.

Force update Motorola Droid manually to Android 2.1 OS. I just happened to come across this while browsing for wallpapers. I'm not sure if it will work for GSM Milestones and I'm really not sure if it will get rid of 3g access. From what I read this isn't anything to do with rooting. It' just the OTA update repackaged to a zip file. Sorry I would try this but I'm not very good when it comes to this kind of stuff. I know I could get the update on to the phone, but if my 3g and other stuff stopped working I dunno how I would get back to Telus 2.01 as there's no way(as far as I know).

After a wipe and upgrade to 2.1 I started having problems with my alarm clock. When I set the alarm to notify me at certain time it won't start at specified time. Once I press the power button it starts sounding the alarm that was set. Any idea what could be going on? Currently I don't have any third party apps installed on my phone.

I updated my Milestone last week and all was working ok. I decided to root the phone today and ended up in some constant re-boot loop where the android logo would appear then reset. I managed to get the phone working again after several hours of worry, but there still seems to be some issues. I would like to remove the 2.0.1 update and re-install it again from frest so that i can fully remove this root access and hopefully my problems.

I have a Motorola Milestone on Telus with 2.1-update1.I'm using WPA at home and WPA2 Enterprise at work. Until recently, my WiFi was working perfectly. Then I noticed that I haven't connected to WiFi in some time so I tried and failed.Options > Scan doesn't do anything. It doesn't connect. It sits there doing nothing. And the WiFi networks don't have problems. I've tested them against an HTC Dream and a Magic. Both work fine. I tried the WiFi Manager app but it doesn't have any scan results. It just shows both - the work and home WiFis - in the list. Scanning doesn't change anything.I have restarted my phone multiple times with no results.I have rooted my phone using Easy Root hoping that would help. It didn't.Anyone experiencing similar problems? Any possible workarounds?

I have used the search function, but I?m still confused. I?m in the California Sierra?s with a small but very user friendly carrier. They have just released what I thought was a CDMA Droid 1, but it is branded as a Milestone. Is this the same phone as the Droid 1? Also, based on what I found searching, is the Milestone ?locked down? like the Droid 2, or is it ?open? like to Droid 1?

I migrated from DM 1.0, which shipped with the milestone/android IM client, to Cyanogen 5.0.7.1, which does not have this client in it.
Is there any way I can get that client installed on CM?

i bought a motorola milestone online thinking we werent getting it on canada anymore . which i think is UK version? so i accepted the fact that i had no 3G on it and was aware that the phone frequency and cariier frequency were different. so when i decided to root my phone according to: MILESTONE 2.1 update and root guide - Android @ MoDaCo
i didnt know which SBF file to pick the telus canada one where im from or UK where the build number was the same as mine and where i think my phone was from.. i couldnt unzip the gz file and it kept gicing me errors on the telus canada sbf file so decided on flashing the telus canada one. (and was hoping maybe my 3G would even work. everything ran smoothly and my phone was rooted but now i realize i have no signal on my phone at all. no text or voice calls.. just wifi. i did my research and people suggested that i put APN which i did but that didnt solve the problem also i read that for custom roms theres those 5 files File_Audio , File_Audio2 , File_GSM , File_Seem_Flex_Tables , generic_pds_init that i was suppose to copy and then replace after the root but i was stupid enough not to back up.. so now im stuck and i dont know what to do.. is there an sbf file i can use cant even restore to factory settings because i dont think itll change my firmware..

I downloaded MSU from motorola support pages, but when i try to install it I get an error message, error shot attached to the post. I tried googling it, but no help there. I tried changing it using 'msiexec /qb', but that didn't help either. My version is Motorola_Software_Update_01.11.84_PROD.

I once had a HTC TyTN. It was basically ok at what it did, but it couldn't sync with my Linux systems reliably, so it lost much of its appeal. I eventually sold it and I'm now using a 15 euro phone that came with 10 euro prepaid. You know the kind. Basically, I needed any mobile phone and I would keep my contacts / schedule on paper until a better solution came along. </backstory> I've been meaning to complicate things again. Android now seems like a good solution, and the Droid/Milestone is the best there currently is. Problem is, I live in the Netherlands.
It's in Germany and in Italy now. But is there any more information - educated guesses even - on when it might arrive in the Netherlands? Or, I'm sure others are interested, elsewhere in Europe? I was hoping to get one this year. Should I hold my breath? I know there is the option to import the device from Germany or Italy. But as I understand it, three quarters of the appeal of Android in general, and the Droid in particular, is the wireless internet connectivity.

I even pulled out the battery, but the same result.

Is it possible to connect the Motorola milestone to the net via a pc?
I'm using a cable Internet connection on my pc. My router is connected to the pc using cables. However, since my router isn't wireless, my milestone cannot connect to the internet via wifi. Is it then possible to connect the milestone to the computer via usb and use the internet the computer is on, just like how the tethering works, but only the opposite?
1. My laptop doesn't have a wireless card
2. My laptop is connected to a non-wireless router which is then only connected to the modem
3. I'm running on windows 7
4. I have bluetooth both on my comp and phone

I am working on an Android 2.0 project that is going to be used in a somewhat remote location. There will be no internet connection available and it will be used outside of the U.S. I am considering the option of using an external Nokia or similar GPS device as a GPS receiver/transmitter and connecting to it for use in my application via bluetooth.I am looking for opinions on whether or not this is even possible, if someone out there has attempted it or if someone has a suggestion for some other external device that would be more fitting.Link to possible external GPS device:
