OK, newb here. When I try to use a wallpaper (stock HTC or downloaded) I get the little box to size it, but it's in landscape mode so I don't get the whole wallpaper on the home screen. Shouldn't it be portrait? Am I missing something simple?

As we know android comes with 3 or 5 or 7 home screens. I want to set wallpaper image on a single home screen programetically and fix it for all other home screens.
I used following code :
Display display =((WindowManager) getSystemService(Context.WINDOW_SERVICE)).getDefau ltDisplay();
Bitmap bmp = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(wallpaperImage,display.g etWidth(),display.getHeight(), true);
setWallpaper(bmp);
and wallpaper image is set but it spans across all 3 home screen. How can i fix it to one screen so that if user swaps home screen a single image will display.

I recently got my incredible and i love it, I have 2 issues with it, first is battery but you know downloading stuff all day long will tank a battery the other. I cannot put a picture on the wallpaper on my phone. If I do, it changes it to the HTC colors. I can however post any live wallpaper just not any pictures. This is become a great irritation and I am uncertain if this is a software or hardware problem.

Im using launcher pro. I only have one dock. When I set a wallpaper to my home screen it always stretches it out past the screen. Even if I use a wallpaper with the correct screen resolution(800 x 480), it still never displays correct on the screen. It seems to always "zoom in".Any idea?

I am trying to set a different wallpaper for every home screen, but I get OutOfMemory issues. I have 5 Bitmaps which I am trying to overlay on a wallpaper Bitmap which is 5 times the display width. Using the code below I get OOM. The problem seems to be the first line of code which creates the large wallpaper Bitmap. My question is whether there is a way to do this (i.e. some way that takes up less memory, or someway to allocate more memory?).
CODE:.......................

I know that you will be able to have stock live wallpapers that are animated but will you also have the option or be able to use and apply your own animated (gif) pictures to your home screen?

How do you change the way the home screen is being displayed? Not the wallpaper itself, but the size and shape of the clock and whether it's even there or not.

The old symbian phone displays the area/location on home screen, even if the GPS/GPRS is not activated. This is provided by the network operator. I am missing the same in my Android phone.
Even My Location option does not display the area/location on homescreen, it displays only the Network operator name.
I tried looking for apps, but all are for displaying the operator's name but not location. I can check my location using any GPS application, but those does not display it on my home screen along with Operators name. I want it similar to my Nokia N81 where the operator name and area name are displayed.

I am having a heck of a time getting any pictures and many downloaded wallpapers to show up on my HTC Incredible. After I set the picture or whatever and crop it, I return to the home screen and the Colorful Bubble HTC Wallpaper always shows up instead, only the live wallpaper really works all the time. Anyone else have the same problem or know a solution?

Does anyone know of a widget that will display the contents of the inbox on the home screen? So that, without opening gmail I can glance at the phone and see the 3-5 most recent messages, sender and subject? I have looked all over the market and can't find anything like this.

I upgraded my Nexus One a few days ago with 2.2 (Froyo). This morning when I went to use it I saw a Dialog sitting atop the home/launcher screen notifying me that an update was available and that I could choose to upgrade now or later. My question is, what API mechanisms is this using to show a Dialog (perhaps an AlertDialog) atop the home screen? Having written an Android app, it was my understanding that Dialogs could only be shown atop an Activity, and that a Service cannot show a Dialog (only a Toast).

Noticed yesterday that on the homescreen when the phone was locked that a missed call and voicemail notification appeared as pieces removed from a jigsaw overlay of the background homescreen image. Hadn't seen that before. Is that a default thing or can I change it (did look rather cool though). I usually use the pattern lock rather than the default swipe lock, so I'm wondering if it's to do with that default setting.

I am just looking for opinions, which phone do you think has the better screen (display), the nexus one or the Droid? I guess 2 things to consider are
1. The Droid is 480 x 854 while the nexus one is only 480 x 800 and
2. The nexus one has an AMOLED display.
Now I am not the most tech savvy person so I am not 100% sure what these mean lol all I know is that from what ive heard, #1 goes to the Droid and #2 goes to the nexus. So idk, is it really just a matter of opinion? I own a nexus one and it has a great screen but from what I've seen from the Droid, the droids screen looked a tad better. However that could be due to my limited experience and if I had the Droid for a while, my opinion might change.

Yesterday my Droid 2 got automatically updated to 2.3.20.A955. It worked fine yesterday. I turned it off when I went to bed and now this morning after turning it on, it appears to be functioning except the only screen display I get is the white M (Motorola logo) that normally appears when starting up. I have tried to turn the phone off and on several times, although with no display it's hard to even know if it's happening. So far, nothing.
Edit to add: Well, I took the battery out and put it back in, now it's working. I should have tried it earlier but I didn't. I'll leave the thread up just so people know there is an issue.

Some questions regarding locked screen.
1) How do you get the locked screen to show for more than 5 seconds?
2) Where is the clock that is on the box?
3) Is there a way to be able to use the "droid" theme that is shown when you power the phone up?

I dropped my Droid today about a foot onto a carpeted floor and upon picking it up, the screen no longer displays anything, but does respond to swiping to unlock, etc. Can someone post a picture of the Recovery menu(s) for factory data reset and wipe cache? would this even help, or maybe an SBF flash?

I have seen there are a few home screen replacement apps out there, Pandahome, GDE and Open Home....
Which one do people like the best? I am looking for one that will pretty much just give me the extra home screens, but will maintain the look and feel of the basic home screen. Any thoughts?

I don't know if this is like a default option but i've found thet my X's entire OS goes into landscape mode, including app tray, browser, apps, everything. I haven't downloaded any apps that do this and while its in this mode it wont rotate back to portrait. The only way I could change it back is by rebooting. I haven't found a way to voluntarily recreate this, it just happens, maybe by a certain combination of keys,but I'd like to know how to recreate this. I'm sure its probably really obvious so forgive me for my obliviousness
