Motorola Droid X : Use Multiple Batteries - Having Same Usage After Changing
Aug 28, 2010
I'm using a Droid X, and I bought a spare battery so I can go all day wihtout a fill up so to speak. However I'm noticing that whenever I place a one of the other batteries in, it gives me the same reading as the last battery that was in it, no matter what. Any way to fix this?

That message has been popping up intermittently on my Droid since day one. I've gone through the Exchange email set up a dozen times (since it keeps disappearing.)I have swapped out my Droid for a new one.I've done factory hard resets.I typically receive 200+ Exchange emails daily and my Droid is receiving about 10% of these.I've verified with our I.T. Dept. all settings are correct - there are 40+ Droid users here and I'm the only one experiencing this ongoing problem. Can anyone help?I spoke with someone who works for Moto, and they denied any knowledge of this problem.I'd hate to think this is an over-priced paperweight.

There has been considerable disparity regarding Droid users battery life post update. I was one reporting very disappointing results. My phone usually would come off the charger at 6AM and down to 20% by noon with moderate use. I went out and bought a new battery and my phone went till about PM yesterday before I hit 20%. Went back to the old battery and again I'm. nearly drained by 2PM. Clearly my two batteries discharge at different rates. This probably explains why people are describing such different results.

I bought one of the new high capacity Droid 2 batteries. I took it off of the charger shortly after 6 am yesterday. It reached 20% capacity around noon today. While not heavily utilized, it was on for the entire time and active most of the day yesterday for texting and internet browsing as well as some light gaming. I'd say that battery was $ very well spent.

seidioonline.com 2600mAh...almost double stock value.FWIW, I've had one in my Motorola Q for the past year, 2100mAh, and there is a direct correlation on mAh value and usage time compared to stock. So if mAh is 2x higher than stock, it will last 2x as long, under same conditions. I did a mock-up of what it would be like with the "extended battery door", which is pretty close to what is pictures, and it felt easier to type using the hard keyboard.

So I changed my DPI setting to 150 since in launcher pro I use 5 rows instead of 4 so it doesn't overlap etc. And wanted to ask if changing the DPI setting may affect the battery usage (recalculating screen) or CPU (making it slower) or the games will lag? etc.
Changed it back, I think was lagging and the text boxes were smaller not on the whole page. And the confirmations had green lines in the middle.
How I did it:
1. Root Explorer , mount R/W in system
2. Open in text editor.
3. Edit the build.prop line with ro.sf.lcd_density=150 and save the file
4. mount R/O and reboot
Still if someone knows something about the battery usage and cpu etc. So I know in future if I should play around with this one.

I love Better Keyboard, but have an annoying problem I can't figure out. When I am typing I must hit something periodically that makes the keyboard letters show multiple letters on each key. How the heck do I turn this off? What am I hitting by mistake that turns it on?

I need advice/pointers on how to display on a map multiple points that change somewhat infrequently based on the device's location. Currently, my application already displays in real-time the device's changing location on a map. I can also easily display the location of one of the other points of interest. However, I have not figured out a way to have both displayed on a map at the same time.

Just wondering if anyone has found a good app to keep track of data usage. Curious because I know Verizon only allows 5gigs and want to keep track of my usage to better manage it. I use a lot of data because im tethering my droid to my desktop for internet - saves me $35 a month, no more giving comcast money for internet.

So, I don't know where the thread went, but I know we where all pissed off a out only getting a 1500mAh battery, but according to Seidio its a 1750mAh, which is a huge update from a 1300mAh, me thinks.
Not that I've figured out how to get 12 hours out of my Eris Moderate-Heavy use, but this should only make things better. I think the 3500mAh is a bit ridiculous.
Let this be the thread to discuss these add on batteries, and either their positive or negative effects on your life.
Assuming that the Nexus One or anything like it is not coming to VZ anytime soon, I'm happily ordering one of these and ready to roll on with my Eris http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/basi17hhrv.htm

I noticed something 2 days ago by accident. After I charged my Ozone battery in my Ozone phone, I place it in my Eris. The battery read 100% for 2 hours. When I charge it in the Eris, it immediately starts to drop. Is the Eris charging the battery at less than full capacity?

When hitting battery usage, would the LWP show up under display? I loaded in a new LWP from the market and checked battery usage and display was off the chart % wise compared to my normal use. And that was with some pretty decent phone activity. I disabled the LWP to check, but does anyone know if it will show here? Or anywhere?

Is there an app that shows what is using the battery? On my Droid it would actually show what was using the battery: Display, slacker, dolphin, live wallpapers, etc. On my X when I check battery usage the only thing it ever says is: display, cell standby, phone idle. It never shows live wallpaper, slacker, or anything else I run. I am wondering how much battery these other apps are using, particularly the live wallpaper. Any suggestions for a 3rd party app I can run for a couple days to see what is really using my battery.

I did search and read the other threads, but has anyone had experience with portable chargers with the Eris?
I am headed to Bonnaroo and I am sure I'll be using the phone a lot so I was looking at the smaller portable chargers that run off of AA batteries. Figuring I'll need a mid day charge so I want a smaller one to throw in my pack.

B4 I buy PdaNet for tethering my new DROID, I really need to know how Internet usage is measured, so I don't get hit with a huge data overage bill. Specifically, how much is being used by Skype w/video. Also, what about using the legal poker sites, e.g. Pokerstars, U.B., Fulltilt, etc. As far as bandwidth/downloading, is safe to tether to all these sites, or is there cause for concern re: going over 5GB per month. On MyVerizon, they tell you what your up to date cell minutes for your monthly cycle are, but I don't see that for the Internet; how do you know where you stand?

My X recently (within the last week) started having extremely poor battery performance under the same usage conditions as the previous week (K-9 syncs every 15 min, maybe 2 texts per hour, 2-3 emails per hour, maybe 5 total minutes of phone use). After 4 hours, the battery would be at 20-30%
To make matters worse, most functions were extremely slow to respond (contact loading, test message loading, recent calls, bookmarks, any scrolling was choppy, etc.) The delay when trying the most basic things (opening the browser, making a call) was getting unbearable.
I started backtracking the changes in the last week. Although I started tinkering with Google's App Inventor over three weeks ago, that's where I focused. I uninstalled all App Inventor programs, including the Eyes-Free Text to Speech engine. This engine was recommended by Google to do things like read text messages in the Apps you create.
Still no luck.
I decided to investigate the battery use a little more. In Battery Manager, I found that "Android System" was using about 70% of my battery. I was typically used to seeing things like "display" at the top.
I have an app called Android System Info. This showed my CPU usage pegged at 100% (even after a reboot). It never got lower than 99%. The biggest CPU hog was "Android System" at 75-80%, consistently.
This App has a tab to view the log, and I noticed several recurring error messages in the log. They were occurring at the rate of about 180 times per second! The error? "Invalid TTS Engine" Well, the TTS is controlled by the "Android System". The "Android System" was constantly trying to load the uninstalled TTS engine.
I went into "Settings...Voice input and output", and, although the Eyes Free TTS engine wasn't available, the default TTS was not set. I checked the box to have the native TTS as the default, and checked the box for "Always use my settings".
Everything immediately went back to normal. CPU usage is now around 10-20%, and "Display" is back at the top of my battery hogging functions.
Battery life is back to over 10 hours, and the delays are gone.

As I did some research I found out, and correct me if I am wrong, that most of the applications that we download on the Droid go against the internal memory, and that the applications are not being loaded onto the memory card. I move to the Droid from Blackberry for this sole reason, thinking the Droid had it the opposite way, that the applications were being loaded on the memory card, and not the internal memory. This concept of loading the programs onto the internal memory, was putting a hurt on my Blackberry, where I had to give up programs in order for it to run faster. I am now concerned after finding out that the Droid has the same concept, that this will eventually happen with my Droid, and that I may have to give up programs for it to run fater as well. If this is true to what I am saying, that the applications are on the internal memory and eating away on it, then I am hoping someone would develop a program where as we can take our progams and move them over to the memory card so that it will free up the internal memory, other wise I am off to seek aphone that runs windows, I do belive they do have this concept that I want. I should have done my homework!

As much as I dislike bringing up the word iPhone, I know it has a nice little thing built in that keeps track of your text / voice usage in comparison to whatever plan you have. Considering I'm on a family plan and didn't get a whole lot of texts (yay for google talk!), it'd be nice if I could quickly and easily check my usage Anyone know if there is an app for this / something that verizon has that supports this?

I am curious what people have their memory settings at and so forth.Ever since I rooted when going to the home screen I will sometimes have a 3-5 second delay before it pops up.I know it has to deal with the memory usage. What about the keep in memory feature? Just curious what other people are doing.I am not a big fan of Launcher.love the features that LauncherPro gives you.

I am trying to set up multiple Android development environments on single Linux Debian machine. Everything works fine for one user. But whenever second user on the same machine tries to launch Eclipse (with ADT) there is an error displayed, that 8700 port is being used. Therefore, the second user is unable to debug. I have researched this issue myself and tried following solutions, but I am yet unsuccessful: 1) I have changed the DDMS port in Eclipse, for the second user to 8740 (Window -> Preferences -> Android -> DDMS -> Base local debugger port). No use: Eclipse still opens 8700 port for listening (showed by netstat and strace). 2) I have run the DDMS before running Eclipse, changed the port in it to be 8740 (File -> Preferences -> Debugger -> Port of selected VM). Not handy to have DDMS running outside Eclipse, Eclipse still opens 8700 port for listening. 3) Tried looking in the source code of ADT, found the reference where the 8700 port is passed and opened, it looks ok though and leaves me without a clue. 4) I have found several similar threads, but none of them helped my case (piled below for reference): 4.1) http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa...

I recently installed Bugless Beast v1.1 @ 1Ghz. I've noticed that the memory available has dropped down to the 60's and 70's when I wipe everything. Bugless Beast is fine, whether I have 40 memory or 60. On Stock 2.1, it would go up to 130 Max. So what's up? Why is my available memory so low?
