Motorola Droid X :: Stuck At Keyboard
Jul 15, 2010
I'm sure it'll get better as I use it, but I'm missing those physical keys whenever I make an error? Please tell me I'll get better people, and that somebody else is doing just as horribly. I forgot to mention I am using swype, just not very well.

I tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.

Dont get me wrong, the QWERTY keyboard is sick, and I love it. But after typing on the keyboard for while, I wanted to switch it up, so I tried the on screen key pad. And to my surprise, the on screen keyboard appears to be much quicker than using the QWERTY!

Is it worth buying BK over using the API from Sense UI? As a side note, can anyone direct me on how to get the API and install it? I am a relative newbie to Android.

my new X10 mini pro has a nice keyboard but it gets stuck when fully out and will not easily slide back unless I wiggle it up and down until it releases. Is there something I am not doing correctly?

Please help if you can. I just flashed a new kernel for NexBeast. I had been running the 800Mhz one that Fabolous has posted on his thread and I decided to try a faster one to see how my phone responds. I'm copied the zip to my SD card and used ROM Manager to install it. I didn't wipe data/cache since I'm only installing a kernel. I also didn't do a backup because I just did one yesterday prior to loading a custom boot animation. ROM Manager did its thing and then the phone went to reboot, but I get stuck on the Motorola "M" and never get to the boot animation. The "M" will be on the screen for about 30 seconds and then will disappear for a moment only to return. I let it go for about 10 minutes hoping it was just stuck in a short loop, but it never stopped. I pulled the battery and tried again, but I'm still having the same problem. What can I do here? I'm new to rooting, so I'm stuck. I'm not too familiar with ClockworkMod Recovery, so I'm lost. I know that when I was still using SPRecovery I was able to boot into recovery while holding "X" and then I could access my backups from there, but I tried that and I'm not seeing any of my backups I made using ROM manager.

I tried to install a p3 low voltage froyo kernel and now I can't get any of my kernels to boot up. The p3 made my droid unusable so I tried reinstalling another one on my sd card and it's now stuck at the "M" no matter what kernel I try. Is there a way to install the stock kernel that came with the BB ROM or should I just reinstall the ROM itself?

Just noticed (cause I stuck it in the holster) that boot up did not work. Red eye is stuck and I think I need to pull battery. Hesitant to stick something sharp in compartment to pry out the battery - any advice? I Google a how to and I see there's supposed to be a pull tab. I do not have one.

I was messing around with clockwordmod recovery and did something I shouldn't have. I am not deodexed, but I heard that you could apply some of the rom modifications without any problems. So I did one, and it was ok. I decided to try a different one and thats when I ran into a problem. My phone is stuck at the M logo now and I am not sure how to fix it. I could have sworn that i made a recovery before I installed the .zip but when i went in to try to recover it said there was nothing there. My one savior is that I have the SBF file I need, but I am on a mac so I can not use at the moment and would like to avoid this at all costs. Does anyone have any suggestions for me or will I need to SBF? Also, i have not let it sit at the M logo for an extremely long period of time, is it possible that it will pull around and start to load properly or is there definitely a problem?

My droids battery life has been miserable and overall the phone has been acting pretty flaky lately. I recently went back to rooted 2.0.1 after running the cyanagen rom. I re enabled OTA and want to just try stock 2.1 for now and see if it fixes my problems before I take it into verizon. After I enabled OTA's it downloaded the file and asked if I wanted to install the update which I said yes to. Phone shut down and restarted and ended up on the Clockwork Recovery screen. I said to reboot and the phone just comes back up in a rooted 2.0.1 version still. It says its running 2.0.1 and the system is up to date.Whats the easiest way to get to 2.1 and unroot? Help please!

Anyone else having an issue where the phone will disconnect from an access point then not be able to reconnect? This happens on my home AP(as well as at work,) and I know it isn't the AP because my laptops stay connected. If I then disable the WiFi on the Droid, it shows as "turning off" until I reboot the phone. Suggestions? Other than this the phone has been tip-top. Should I wait until 12/11 before I try and exchange it?

trying a new Chevy kernel I went into boot loop. No biggie, I just booted into recovery and went back to my goto kernel. BUT, now that causes boot loops and in fact, any kernel I load - I have tried 4 - causes a boot loop. even my stable goto.

I did something stupid and tried to put the Galaxy S status bar on the D2 without realizing it is for the X. Now it's stuck in an endless bootloop. What should I do? I was trying to do the D2 2.2 SBF but how do I connect since it keeps rebooting? EDIT: Found some info online during my panic. Allowed me to start the SBF, hopefully it works. "Power on holding the power key and the Up arrow key on the keyboard. After the M logo appears, release the two keys. That will put your Droid into the bootloader, then you can connect it to your PC via USB and use the SBF post to bring your phone back to normal."

Navigation has been working great since I got the phone in November. Starting yesterday the phone gets stuck on "SEARCHING FOR GPS." It's so odd - because it goes through the whole FROM, TO and even gives me the summary - 5.2 miles to destination etc.
Then it can't find the GPS? I've tried pulling the battery and uninstalling the last App I installed (which was handscent SMS). Could an app update have killed it? I think Yelp & Astro Manager recently had updates.

So I DL'd then installed 2.2, that went fine. It rebooted and it stays on the M logo. I can hear the "droid" where it boots but it stays on the logo
I've tried pulling the battery, even for 5-6 mins, going into system recovery mode and clearing cache and still the same thing.
Not sure what to do here. I hear it's some sort of boot-loop error?
Left battery out for 10-15 mins and now it boots fine. Phew

I rooted my X so I could take screenshots. I saw all the hoopla over the new froyo release, and figured I'd try it. Well, now I'm bricked or stuck in endless boot, whichever, and can't get past the Motorola Logo. What can I do? I plug my phone into my pc and it doesnt even recognize it. I keep seeing people telling others to flash the .sbf, but I don't even know what that means.

so I've been into rooting for a few months now. I started on the Droid and moved onto the Droid X. I got my X to 2.1 rooted, then 2.2 rooted, then the 2.2 rooted deodexed post on the forums here. I wanted to move onto FlyX, but wanted to run it clean and not over the deodexed version I had installed. Unfortunately I hadn't made a nandroid backup of the base 2.2 version. So I decided to start COMPLETELY over by flashing the SBF like I did orginally to upgrade to 2.2 (because I had a theme). Now, everytime I flash, it just stays in a bootloop that starts after the moto logo. It will show Droid, explode to the eye, and start over.I've reflashed about 3 times, and taken out the battery several times for each flash. So...any ideas or am I pretty much boned?

First time post here, hoping for some advice. This is the situation: as of late, my Droid would occasionally reboot itself. Didn't think much of it (new phone, new system. Wasn't expecting perfection). However, tonight (while updating an app from the market) the phone froze, rebooted and got stuck in 'The Red Eye of Death' loop. I tried pulling out the battery and sd card several times. No luck. After googling and reading various postings (this forum and others), I started to notice that a lot of the issues revolved around 'rooting'. I have a sense of what rooting is however I have no real interest in it (warranty, wait for update, etc.). But apparently, I have a rooting problem. I'm able to get to the recovery mode (power up while pressing 'X', etc.). The choices I get are: 1.reboot system now 2.apply sdcard:update.zip 3. wipe data/factory reset 4. wipe cache partition. But under all that is 'E:cant open /cache/recovery/command droid'. When I run 'sdcard update' option, I get 'No such file or directory. Verification failed. Installation aborted.' My first question is: what is it trying to update to? I was already at 2.0.1. Has the phone somehow reverted back to 2.0 and is trying to get back to 2.0.1? And if so, why is the update file missing? I think I have four options. The first is to return the phone and wrestle for a new one (and not a refurbished one). Although, this may be the easiest route, there's a lot of work I've put into my phone already; files, settings and apps that I don't want to lose. Plus I just don't want to deal with a Verizon rep if I don't have to.
Second option is to try 'wipe data/factory reset'. Again, don't want to start from scratch. However, I find this option more desirable than the first because I get to keep my 'new' phone, which I've already grown attached to. My only concern with this though, is that I read a post where someone tried this option but his phone then became deactivated and he couldn't re-activate using his original numbers. So that's a potential risk. Third choice putting the sd card into my laptop, download and install the 10mb 'update.zip' file, and recover from there Four: the Droid 2.0.1 sbf file / RSDLite solution posted elsewhere on this forum. So my ending questions are: In regards to options 3, if I took this route would I be in essence rooting the phone, or is rooting more than just manually updating your phone? And did the 'Droid sbf file' come about because the 'update.zip' file doesn't always work? Just need some advice to help me make my decision. Just want my good ole Droid back.
