Motorola Droid :: Easy Root Woes

Aug 6, 2010

Let me start this off by saying today was my first time trying to root but I've read a lot about it. Anyways, I bought Easy Root this morning and rooted without any issues. Got Titanium and backed everything up. Got Rom Manager and downloaded Sapphire 1.0.0. I tried to install it, but when I tried to flash into Clockwork Recovery I was just brought to the regular recovery screen. Not realizing this at the time, I proceeded to wipe the phone and reboot. Obviously, it did not install the Sapphire Rom. For some reason, I figured I should just go back to stock android 2.2, so I did that. I still have the Superuser Permissions in my Apps, but when I go into Titanium, it says I'm not rooted. I even had it download a new version of BusyBox. I'm guessing this is because I went back to STOCK 2.2. Why do I still have the ninja icon, though? I can't download Easy Root because it's been removed from the Market. Is there some other way to give Titanium SU permissions?

Motorola Droid :: Unable To Install Easy Root

Aug 6, 2010

I'm having a problem downloading Easy Root..I bought it once, refunded it because I didn't have anough money in my account, then bought it again the same day...andnow it finally went through this morning and it says purchased because I got paid this morning...but when I try to click install it says "Download unsuccessful"...I've tried everything to get it to install but it won't work and I can't refund it again. If I could refund it again I would be able to successfully install it like I did with Rom manager and setCPU.

Motorola Droid :: Root Problems - App - No Root Access

May 10, 2010

I'm trying to gain root and having some problems...

I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.

After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:

http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html

to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?

General :: Easy Root And Screenshots For Droid 2 A855

Dec 24, 2012

It all started with a awesome home page and wanting to screenshoot it and finding out my Droid2 did not have software or shortcut keys like my GT7 to do this. So I read for some time until I felt confident in a safe rooting procedure which turned out to be the "Z4Root App". It's ridicously easy with the Droid2, download it, install it, open it, click "root permantley" and bang you've been granted root_access. After rooting I went with Screenshot Ultimate which claims screenshots can be done w/o Root which turned out to be untrue but w/root it works without a hitch. Unfortunately, it saves your screenshots in a very stupid place but you can access them through a file manager not the gallery but none the less it has accomplished the goal. Im curious to see how far root_access can take me

I am indeed rooted, using sholes 2.0.5 (maybe thats why?) Never had any problems getting 'permission' for an app before. The dialogue box doesn't even pop up when I open DMU like it does with other apps the first time you run them and get the option to allow root access.

Motorola Droid :: Instant Root - Fails To Gain Access (2.0.1)

Feb 7, 2010

I am a new Motorola Droid user. My phone came with 2.0.1 installed. I installed Instant Root 1.04 and attempted to run it but got a message "unble to gain access". I started down this road because I wanted to backup my phone so I could do a hard reset. So installed "Titanium Backup". It wouldn't run because my rom wasnt rooted. So i have spend 4 hours researching and each item i find leads me to another issue or program to install. Most everything seems to involve rooting. One question I have is if there is a difference between 2.0.1 preinstalled an 2.0.1 ota?

For background I wanted to reset the phone because none of the 3rd party contact or phone dialing packages will read the native phone list or contacts. I owned a Omnia i910 and did a considerable amount of customization on it to I am reasonably familiar with digging around in the guts for a general user.

Motorola Droid :: Minimum Required For Root Access - Any Device

Aug 11, 2010

All this talk about different rooting methods and how some are unreliable makes me want to learn exactly what's required.

So far from looking at different exploits and methods to root different phones, the most simplest to understand is Peter Alfonso's Galaxy S rooting method posted today it seems all you need is to find a way on your device to install the following:

/system/bin/su (is this included in stock and replaced or just doesn't exist in stock systems?)
/system/app/Superuser.apk (it seems the Android OS has a "super user access" intent that this listens for -- so when apps try to access su this picks app it up?)

Motorola Droid : No SetCPU - Non Root Access To Device Correct?

Mar 16, 2010

I have a probably silly and stupid question. I did the sbf file to bring my phone back to stock (I have to give my phone to a family member, long story). Anyway, when I did the sbf file it recovered all my apps, and one of them was SetCPU.

SetCPU won't run unless it has root access correct? I mean the fact that it was installed (and then uninstalled) it can't change anything without root access to the device correct?

Motorola Droid :: Bricking Your Droid Using Root Access

Dec 17, 2009

I've been thinking about rooting my Droid for a little while, but I would like some clarification on the risks before I begin. I know almost nothing about Linux (but I am a tinkerer), but there seem to be very straightforward instructions on how to do everything I'm interested in. When people say that you could "brick" your phone by deleting/moving/renaming the wrong file, I want to make sure I understand the usage of "brick". My definition of bricking a device was that it was literally only good as a brick. It is BROKEN. For good. Kaput. Like a brick. However, Blackberry users (when I was tinkering with my Blackberry Storm) use the word "brick" to describe a phone that just needs its operating system reloaded. I have no problem reloading the Android ROM if I had to (provided a dump of the Droid ROM exists) but will I have the option?Does "brick" around here mean the phone is 100% broken, or that it needs the Android ROM reloaded?
