I use the GPS functions and My Tracks quite frequently on my DX. I was wondering if there was a way to check to see which satellites the DX locks on to and their strength - much like a GPS unit (Garmin, etc)?
I would like to use this information to check some settings while on trails as well as getting the Lat/Long of my position.
If I have to use an APP to do this can you recommend a good one?

anyone seen an app that simply reports yours signal strength? the built in one (settings > about phone > status) seems to report, but in a way that makes some sense. for example, anyone know what -90 dBm 0 asu really means?
I have a cool app called GPS test that shows the GPS strength - bar chart and number and color - of GPS signals.
I have another app called No Signal Alert that tells you when you have lost your signal. I emailed them to incorporate a signal strength meter, as it seems a logical app to have it.
I'm looking for widgets...one widget for all would be nice.
but one that tells me my batter, 3g, how many bars, and what my status is (vibrate or not)
basically everything on the notification bar
Battery Left was the first thing I installed on my phone when I got it. My battery life has been terrible so I've been trying to track down the problem. I woke up today, unplugged my phone and didn't touch it for an hour. Battery Left says I have 70 percent left but the battery meter in the status bar showed full. I uninstalled battery left and installed Battstatt and it shows 90 percent (2 hours later). Anyone else have problems with battery left? I hope this fixes my battery problem.

If I am using a ROM that has the EVO Framework, Virtuous 2.2, can I MOD my Signal Meter to be this one? If so, where can I find this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just came from a Verizon Corp. store and low and behold there is tech guy from HTC there showing the employees the ins and outs of the Inc. So we got into a discussion about the signal strength meter here is HTCs explanation on why it seems to be wrong. He claims as part of the power management system the phone when not in use meaning not making a call or connected goes into a minimum power mode that also effects the signal meter. He made a call on my phone to how how it works. Once the phone call is placed you immediately see the bars raise and the 3G come on after disconnecting the bars fall again once in the power saving stand by mode. So I guess its not defective after all just very smart.

View 24 Replies View RelatedMy droid x signal pretty much always between -92dBm and -87dBm with 1-3 3g bars. My former droid eris would get -92dBm with 1 bar and also drain incredibly fast.
On the droid x, if I go into google maps, the circle of the cell tower appears and the place I live at is half way within the edge of the circle and the other half is outside of the circle. I always seem to be connected to this tower. Bad luck I guess that I'm on the outskirts of the circle.
Does anyone know how cell towers are distributed? Do they overlap sometimes?
I run pandora with the screen off for a half hour with the screen off and my battery is down to 70%. I have about 15% screen brightness and battery saving mode on.
yesterday, I was on meebo for an hour and 45 minutes and it was down to 60% from a full charge.
This is the one thing that grinds my gears about this phone. I downloaded battery widget and the battery meter goes in increments of 10. Not 93% battery life, 90. Not 72%, 70. Is there a setting to make the battery display the exact life left or is this it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAnyways, if your battery goes from 100% to 90% in less than 5-15 minutes, here's why.
First of all when your phone shows its fully charged, it really is NOT (UNLESS you charged it over night). In that case you will notice that from 100 to 90 stays a long while in between.
But if you charge it during the day and your phone has say 50-70% or whatever and you charge till phone shows is 100%. Your phone has NOT really charged to 100%, trust me!
To test, do this. Charge your phone when its down to 90%. Now plug it up, you will see the "lighting" icon showing charging. If your phone stops showing the icon the phone says it FULL to 100%. Most people will unplug and start using the phone. And they will see the phone go from 100 to 90 in no TIME.
But if you leave it plugged even if the phone shows fully charged for 1/2 to an hour you will get more battery life from 100 to 90!
So battery meter still not working properly. Come on Motorola, use your phones so you can notice these things. Stop using iphones for your personal use!
Here's the good things the OTA update did fix/improve.
This is at least the case with MY phone.
- X no longer gets hot while streaming video while on 3G. This was huge for me as the phone got very hot, but only on 3G, not wifi. FIXED
- When my phone was down to 30-40% in battery life. I would restart the phone and the battery would show 70% and stay there for a long while! For ME this is no longer the case. If its shows 30% and I restart the phone it will still show 30% after boot. FIXED.
Friend of mine said he activated a Droid today, brand new, and the battery meter is showing a "?". No meter just the empty battery meter with a question mark inside of it.Anyone have that issue or ever heard such a thing?

I don't charge my phone in the course of a day... letting the battery drain as much as possible before plugging it in... but several times now I've noticed that my battery meter actually increases when I restart the phone. Yesterday I drained it to 20%, restarted the phone, and it was at 70%. Tonight it got down to 40%, I restarted it, and now it's at 80%... and these aren't just fluke readings that go away after 5-10 minutes... the battery drains consistently from that percentage point.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI made some changes to the status bar and for the most part it went smooth other than the signal icon. I have a D3 with the Eclipse 3 rom. I used Ninjamorph went into framework , apps, systemui.apk and changed the png files of the signal bar png's. when I reboot the new image shows up but changes back to the old style when the 3g or 1x kicks in. do I need to change a different signal png?

For Battery Status, we can use SystemProperties.get ("status.battery.level_raw") to get current battery level. This class is not in SDK reference, but we can see this function is used in BatteryService and other fields. I use it successfully But for Signal Strength, I only find the way to use onSignalStrengthChange(int asu) which only gives us an "asu", new version seems to support onSignalStrengthsChange(....). But now, is there better ways for exact signal strength?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Lenovo a60 phone. It has dual SIM support. However i rarely keep the second SIM card activated which results in a no-signal icon beside the 1st SIM signal icon. Anyway i can remove the NO SIGNAL icon ONLY? I still want the signal strength of the second SIM to appear when SIM 2 is activated but i don't want the icon when SIM 2 is deactivated.
I believe it lies somewhere in the SystemUI.apk since that's how i removed the Vibration Indicator icon.
How to remove the NO SIGNAL icon in the statusbar of ANY PHONE (dual sim or not).
The internal meter says it is due for charge long before its out of juice. Battery Left widget will give accurate voltage levels, but it too is fooled, even after proper calibration.

My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
I was looking through the market this morning and found an app I had not seen before "Signal Status". It allows you to show the signal status in dBm on the status bar. Has anyone tried it. It seems to work great but I wonder about battery drain?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally upgraged from my LG Dare to the Motorola Droid X. On the first day I loved it! No issues at all. Today is the second day and I CANNOT get 3g signal. I have power cycled, pulled battery straight out and left out for a minute, turned all options on and off(wifi,bluetooth,airplane mode, gps) NOTHING IS WORKING AND I AM OVER IT! I am in the same spot I was yesturday. In a big city, full bars but cannot get 1x or 3g to come up. No navi, no internet, no picture messages!
