Does anyone else's battery go from 100% to 90% really fast? Mine does even after the update a couple weeks ago. I didn't know if it was just my phone. I charge it fully then after a few text messages it's on 90%. GPS is disabled, battery saver mode enabled, brightness 20%, social apps sync over WiFi only and that is never turned on.

Just updated the Droid X, battery died, and I charged it to 100%. The battery is dropping like crazy. It just dropped 10% in 10 minutes of use. Anyone else? I have had consistently bad battery life on this thing.

View 31 Replies View RelatedI used to get about 35-40 hours on one charge before the wonderful update to 1.6.I got off the charger at 6am TODAY and now i am at 20%.ridiculous nothing on my phone has changed except the 1.6 update (and some app updates cause 1.6).Anyone else seeing this issue?
View 49 Replies View RelatedNight before last, I charged the battery to 100% before I went to sleep. When I was going to sleep, I unplugged it. When I woke up 7 hours later, it had only dropped 30% to 70%. I did the software upgrade, and the battery jumped back up to 80% and lasted a Long time. Well, last night, I did the same thing, and when I woke up, my battery had dropped to 50%. The phone was supposedly sleeping this whole time! A few minutes on the browser to look up the issue brought me down to 40%.
All I installed yesterday was YellowPages, WhitePages, Flikie (then uninstalled it) and LauncherPro (could this be the culprit?). Before I went to bed though, I opened GMail, and it was having trouble connecting to the server and finally gave me a "retry" button because it couldn't connect. I never pressed it and just went to sleep. WiFi, GPS, everything was off, and the screen was set to lowest brightness (which doesn't even matter here.) Why it dropped so much?
I think I figured out why sometimes my Droid stays on for 1.5 days and sometimes after 6 hour of just being idle the battery is drained.
When wifi is turned on an connected to a network, the cellular signal is way low and it just drains the battery.
I had been using IMEasy for its multiple-account capability, I found my phone running warm when multiple accounts were connected though, and the battery drained fast; down to 70% in 3 hours in a poor signal area. I thought it was the poor signal. Installed Trillian yesterday, it's connected to 3 IM accounts and after 5 hours I'm only down to 90%, in the same area. I've been a happy Trillian user on the PC, I already had an Astra account from that so setup was SIMPLE. I HIGHLY suggest this app, though it's still in Beta and it IS missing a couple options I would like they're not critical issues to me, and I'm sure they'll fix them.

I know this sounds like an ad but I'm just a happy customer.
The 2 missing items (maybe one really) are the ability to set the notification tone in the app and the ability to change the notification LED color in the app.
I charge at night, by noon its dead with never having turned it on.

View 49 Replies View RelatedAnyways, if your battery goes from 100% to 90% in less than 5-15 minutes, here's why.
First of all when your phone shows its fully charged, it really is NOT (UNLESS you charged it over night). In that case you will notice that from 100 to 90 stays a long while in between.
But if you charge it during the day and your phone has say 50-70% or whatever and you charge till phone shows is 100%. Your phone has NOT really charged to 100%, trust me!
To test, do this. Charge your phone when its down to 90%. Now plug it up, you will see the "lighting" icon showing charging. If your phone stops showing the icon the phone says it FULL to 100%. Most people will unplug and start using the phone. And they will see the phone go from 100 to 90 in no TIME.
But if you leave it plugged even if the phone shows fully charged for 1/2 to an hour you will get more battery life from 100 to 90!
So battery meter still not working properly. Come on Motorola, use your phones so you can notice these things. Stop using iphones for your personal use!
Here's the good things the OTA update did fix/improve.
This is at least the case with MY phone.
- X no longer gets hot while streaming video while on 3G. This was huge for me as the phone got very hot, but only on 3G, not wifi. FIXED
- When my phone was down to 30-40% in battery life. I would restart the phone and the battery would show 70% and stay there for a long while! For ME this is no longer the case. If its shows 30% and I restart the phone it will still show 30% after boot. FIXED.
I was just wondering what settings I can tweak to improve the X's battery life after the 2.2 update. I do not want to root or uninstall bloatware, though (I did that with 2.1 and had a bitch of a time getting the OTA 2.2 to install correctly).

The first day I had it I had an error that kept occurring because of the htc keyboard I had previously been using. After restoring the keyboard to stock that problem went away, but the biggest problem of all took the forefront. I can't go more than 5 hours without needing to charge my phone. Before the update I usually charged my phone daily because I am a relatively heavy user. After the update, I am not using my phone any more than before. Today I charged my phone 3 times. Some people have said it is the facebook app, but I uninstalled the latest updates. I have noticed many of my programs are opening up in the background on their own.

I put my phone down for 20 minutes, came back and it was down to 5%? Drained the entire battery yesterday and let it charge overnight. Haven't seen any problems. Didn't have anything like this before the update. I did a reboot and took battery out as well to see if it was a false read, but nothing...

This has never happened until after the update but I also got a new droid the same day. So I dont know if this is due to my new droid or the update. Has anyone else noticed this?
View 20 Replies View RelatedYesterday I clicked the update button on my droid, and now my droid is dead, all that appears is the motorola logo, even after pulling the battery. Of course technical support at Verizon has no clue what is wrong. The phone will not even turn off unless i take the battery out, the motorola logo shows until the phone goes dead.
As this is my second droid, I don't know that I want a 3rd one. My opinion is that the droid would be a neat smartphone-- if it worked. I doubt that anyone could ever consider using the droid as a business phone, since it randomly quits working. I've had many cell phones and blackberries and never had to return any of them.
I have the best buy protection plan, but not sure that entitles me to a new or different phone, since my droid is about 3 months old.
I just got my Droid X today and am worried about the battery life. How do I stop the updating of the facebook posts and the twitter posts? And how else can I preserve my battery life?

There are two threads of interest over there:Time without signal > 50% - xda-developers Wow battery from 100 to 10 in 3 hours xda-developers.The short of it is that the 3G signals don't stay locked and the phone keeps hunting.If you go under the battery life settings and click on "Cell Standby" there's a field for "Time Without Service".Mine and many others were hover around 50%.This is constantly draining battery even while you do nothing.So the temporary quick fix is to turn on Airplane mode, then turn it right back off.This fixes some incorrect setting.On my phone, Time Without Service dropped from 52% last night to 0% today.And my battery only dropped about 9-10% idling over night.This is MUCH better than the 30% draining overnight I was seeing over the past few days.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have 2 batteries for my phone, both of which show the exact same problems. The battery drains very quickly on standby (8 hours or so). It drains when off and if I turn off my phone and remove the battery for about an hour, it loses 10-20% of the battery. A lot of people told me it had something to do with the wakelock or some app but that's not what it is. Wakelock is fine and with stock apps only it still drains way to quickly. Airplane mode doesn't work either. It charges exactly as fast as it drains too.

The battery would not charge when hooking it up via USB to my desktop or AC.I took the phone to the Tmobile store and they swapped out the battery for me. The battery runs fine unplugged but as soon as I plug in the USB adaptor it starts losing a % of charge every 10 secs. As soon as I unplug it the draining stops. I called the Tmobile store again and they said it may be the USB adaptor. Well, I have a spare cable. I used it and the same thing happens.Is there something wrong with my phone? Is there a setting I need to adjust? Anyone experienced this yet?

I could plug the charger in at 6:00 when I get up, take it off the charger at 7:30 when I leave for work, and make it til the next morning most days.A couple of weeks ago, I left for work with a full charge, and around 11:00 I took out my phone to test WiFi coverage for some new access points we had installed in the office. The phone felt very warm, and the battery indicator was yellow. For the next couple of days it went like this. I had a spare Samsung battery from when AT&T sent us a new one for my wife's Captivate when she was having random shutdown issues, so I swapped batteries. Things were fine for 10-11 days. Then suddenly last evening about 7:30, when I went to look something up online with my phone, it was very warm again, and the battery indicator was red. Had to put it on the car charger when I left church.When I got home, I put it on the charger all night. By midday today, it was in the yellow, and it finally died about an hour ago. again the handset felt very warm. I don't have a spare USB cable here at work, so will have to wait to get home to charge it. Anything particular I should look for on the phone (running apps, etc.)? Or do I just need to go ahead and place a call to AT&T support?

- WiFi
- Bluetooth
- "Use wireless networks"
- Gmail/Email pull and Auto-sync (but leave the "Background data" on)
- "Enable GPS satellites"
- Weather update
- "Enable Always-On mobile" (but leave the "Mobile network" ticked)
- and let Twitter/Facebook to automatically update only once/twice a day.
Still the battery was draining very fast. The only thing I did not turn off is the 3G. Yesterday I decided to switch to 2G and replace the built-in SMS with Handcent SMS. To my very surprise, the battery life improves greatly. I will now do a test to see how fast it drains. I have just fully charged the unit and will update it here once I get the result.
