General :: Motorola A854 Fast Battery Drain?

View 3 RepliesI think I figured out why sometimes my Droid stays on for 1.5 days and sometimes after 6 hour of just being idle the battery is drained.
When wifi is turned on an connected to a network, the cellular signal is way low and it just drains the battery.
So, after getting rid of my iPod Touch and a lovely Sony Ericsson Elm, I'm in the possession this beautiful device. I've been currently using this device as my main music player as well, it seems very good (apart from no equalizers).
The problem is, the music player seems to drain the battery pretty fast. I've been searching around and people have said to have gotten max 7 and a half hours on a full battery? Compared to even the iPhone 3g, which I know is UP TO 24 hours, but that doesn't ever mean you'll get full time, probably 15 or 16 hours, thats very poor.
Has anyone noticed extremely fast battery drain while browsing the internet? I can use Facebook, play games, look at wikidroid, etc. and battery life seems "normal" but while using the browser it will use 10 percent in 10 minutes. I have timed it, I was at 60 percent, browsed the forums here for 10 minutes and was at 51 percent afterwards. Is this normal?
I am rooted and have 2.2, I have tried the stock browser and Dolphin HD and both do the same thing.
Rooted Droid 1, running LFY 1.9 with it's 1ghz kernel, SPRecovery. Had a weird issue recently; the phone displayed that my battery life was at 40%, then probably ~30 minutes later it was down to 20%. I wasn't using it during that time, I just unlocked the screen to check something. Anyway, I opened my browser and within a minute or two I got the "15% battery life remaining" message, prompting me to connect my charger. I decided I would allow the phone to just die and shut itself down. So I waited ~45 minutes and it went down to 10%, then almost immediately to 5%. I turned on the GPS just to make it drain faster... I watched a one-hour television show and when it was over, I glanced over to the phone to see if it had died - nope, still on. I turned the LED light on, leaving the GPS running for ~25 minutes and it finally powered down. Then I plugged it in to charge and left the room. Came back in about 2.5 hours later and picked up the phone - it was very hot. Unlocked the screen and checked SetCPU and it was running ~135?F but it immediately started cooling down. It was fully charged, however so I unplugged it. I went to bed shortly thereafter and the battery life displayed 90% as I set the alarm to wake me up the next morning. I happened to wake up shortly before the alarm was set to go off and I picked up the phone to disable the alarm and noticed the red 'charge me' light blinking - unlocked the screen to see 5% and just then it powered itself down.
TL;DR -- Phone only got hot that one time, phone hasn't gone dead in stand-by mode again like it did that night. Battery drains at a seemingly normal rate based on my regular use from 100% down to 40%, then it rapidly drains after that, always skipping 30% and when it gets down to 5% it stays alive for quite a long time under heavy load. Is there a way to 'teach' the phone how to check and calculate actual and remaining battery % and to display it correctly? Is it kernel-related? I heard somewhere about doing a 'battery wipe' but I am unsure what that entails and searches are proving fruitless for me so far.
does battery status pro drain your battery life?
View 2 Replies View Related I have had my Note 2 since last spring, I noticed in September that when using my original charge cord (plugged to wall) it would only charge when held in certain angles and very slow, I couldn't use while charging as it would drain it. I tried using my boyfriends nexus charger and that seemed to work. It was still slow but at least I didn't have to be constantly moved to certain angles (still discharged if used while on charger though).
If I plug my phone in at night (let's say at 14% battery life) by morning, over 8 hrs later, it's only at 60 % and then drains completely in 4-5 hours, while I'm at work and not even using it, if I'm using it it goes down 2% a minute.
This is getting so frustrating, I have no clue what's wrong. I've done a factory reset and nothing changed. If I use a universal docking station my phone actually charges very quick, at a normal speed. I'm not sure if it's the battery, usb port, or charger!
Does anyone else's battery go from 100% to 90% really fast? Mine does even after the update a couple weeks ago. I didn't know if it was just my phone. I charge it fully then after a few text messages it's on 90%. GPS is disabled, battery saver mode enabled, brightness 20%, social apps sync over WiFi only and that is never turned on.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI forced froyo last week. and since this morning it has been draining so fast that if i take it off the charger its dead within an hour. just started doing this? any body else?
View 31 Replies View RelatedJust updated the Droid X, battery died, and I charged it to 100%. The battery is dropping like crazy. It just dropped 10% in 10 minutes of use. Anyone else? I have had consistently bad battery life on this thing.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI am using the 11 cm 7 beta on my l5 kernel with deep sleep, but the battery dies very fast without even i use,
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I ran it, my phone had been unplugged for about 12 hours and I found that Spare Parts showed my phone to have been Running (not sleeping) for 100% of that time. After being methodical and getting data points after opening various programs, I determined that after I opened any program that accessed the GPS, the phone no longer would go into sleep mode. To get the phone to start sleeping again, all I have to do is toggle GPS off and then back on again. It's completely reproducible every time on my phone.
Now, I don't know what kind of effect this will have on battery life, but seems like it probably would have some effect. If others can test this and see if it affect you at all, it'd be helpful to see if there's a potential major software bug here or if it's just something with my phone.
Easiest way to test is to start with a fresh reboot with GPS toggle on, install Spare Parts, plug in the phone for a second (to reset the counters), let it sit sleeping for a few minutes, then read the Running % in Spare Parts. Should be pretty low. Plug in the phone to reset the counters again. Then start Google Maps or any other program that will activate your GPS. Close that program and then let the phone sit idle for a few minutes. Check Spare Parts running time again and, for me, it's pegged at 100%. It stays like that until I toggle the GPS off or reboot the phone.
i went on vacation with my girlfriend about 2 weeks ago and at that time i had some serious battery issues so my phone was constantly on the charger. i noticed that while i was using my navigation the battery was actually draining while i was charging it. is this because my charger blows or something worse?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI came in to work...plugged in my X (USB) and the battery drained to 15% in 3 hours. What is that about?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I've noticed since I've gotten my phone that even when its plugged in (100 percent battery to start) if I use navigation for 45 min or so the battery will drain to around 80 percent. I don't understand how its doing this if its plugged in and the battery has the charging icon on there.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have been avoiding all widgets except the clock because i want to squeeze every bit of battery out of my droid. but does any know (someone who has alot of experience with android phones) how much widgets really drain on your battery. i mean do they really make a difference, or is it minscule. any advice?
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust to clarify, is there in fact battery pull and drain from BT, Wifi and GPS even if you are not actually using them as there no app running needing them and no icon showing them active in the menu bar?
I am curious if they are sending out polling or searching signals and thus, still draw the battery down? It seem they must, agreed?
Is it a substantial pull? I kind of want to leave them all on, but have started the habit of having them off and just using a widget to turn each on - 1 by 1 - as needed.. but that is kind of a PITA and I wonder if it is not even necessary?
Okay so I woke up this morning and took my phone off the charger and headed to work. About 2 hours later I feel this burning sensation in my pocket and I put out my phone and this thing is burning up and the batter is down to 30%. I turn it off take out the battery, and turn it back on 10 min. later and attempt to charge the phone. I check about 15 min. later and the battery has drained to 20%. Any idea whats going on?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 batteries for my phone, both of which show the exact same problems. The battery drains very quickly on standby (8 hours or so). It drains when off and if I turn off my phone and remove the battery for about an hour, it loses 10-20% of the battery. A lot of people told me it had something to do with the wakelock or some app but that's not what it is. Wakelock is fine and with stock apps only it still drains way to quickly. Airplane mode doesn't work either. It charges exactly as fast as it drains too.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using crystal clear ROM by Fuser-invent battery is dying very fast and not charging more than 48%.And also is not charging when its ShutDown(shows charging). Nexus 7
View 4 Replies View Relatedafter flashing cyanogenmod 7 on my lg p500, battery is draining so fast .... is there a fix or something for the battery issue
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my battery drained extremely fast while it was idle. My phone had about 50% left and an hour later it got all the way down to 14% without any usage. Wifi was on and I didn't get any notifications. I know there are background processes but to have that much battery drained is really strange.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNight before last, I charged the battery to 100% before I went to sleep. When I was going to sleep, I unplugged it. When I woke up 7 hours later, it had only dropped 30% to 70%. I did the software upgrade, and the battery jumped back up to 80% and lasted a Long time. Well, last night, I did the same thing, and when I woke up, my battery had dropped to 50%. The phone was supposedly sleeping this whole time! A few minutes on the browser to look up the issue brought me down to 40%.
All I installed yesterday was YellowPages, WhitePages, Flikie (then uninstalled it) and LauncherPro (could this be the culprit?). Before I went to bed though, I opened GMail, and it was having trouble connecting to the server and finally gave me a "retry" button because it couldn't connect. I never pressed it and just went to sleep. WiFi, GPS, everything was off, and the screen was set to lowest brightness (which doesn't even matter here.) Why it dropped so much?
I just bought the extended battery for my Droid X yesterday and put it on charge for three hours last night and then at bedtime. I got up this morning with a "charged" battery. I used the phone a little today but not alot. By 7 pm CST my battery was at 30%. Is this normal, I mean with the regular battery I had a better battery life span than this. Did i not charge it correctly?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince updating google maps last Friday, my GPS icon goes on all the time and my battery seems to drain faster. I cannot shut it off except to cycle the power on my phone. Anyone else notice this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMotorola Milestone user here. I posted this yesterday in the appropriate section, but I figured this issue might apply to other phones as well. Sorry for the lenght but I thought I'd cover all bases.Anyway here's what happens when I charge my phone overnight. Let's say my battery is at 80%:
1. Turn off Wifi
2. All tasks killed except for Alarm Clock. Sometimes I run the Music Player but it doesn't make a difference with the battery drain issue whether I use it or not.
3. Background data is not enabled
4. The "Stay Awake" (Screen will never sleep while charging) option in the "Applications" menu is NOT CHECKED
5. Auto-brightness is not selected, and brightness is set at the lowest level.
6. Data Roaming (connect to data services when roaming) is not selected
7. Bluetooth not on
8. Charge the phone - I see the animated lightning bolt icon
9. Press the "sleep" button for the screen, or, allow it to naturally go dark after 30s
What's the best (read: most efficient) way to drain the battery? this is after a new kernal or ROM and during a battery recalibration. I'm thinking WiFi off, GPS on, even better, searching for a signal; screen brightness at 100%, no auto dim; lots of apps in task manager; streaming internet video.
I can leave 4G on, with no 4G coverage within 50 miles of me that should suck some more power. I thought the vibration buzzing might be a pretty decent power hog, but a) not sure how to make it stay on, and 2) not sure I could put up with hearing it for that long.
When i use thether via usb, cable with extra power-contact, my battery drains really quick. Im running cm7.2 on my defy.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOk so i have found battery offender for doing initial calibrations after i go on my rom flashing frenzies. I was wondering if there are any apps that are similar but that will power the device down at a certain battery level as to not sllow the battery to be fully drained.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAndroid app that will use a lot of battery (maybe using the phones functions like wifi etc) to drain the battery and then when the battery reaches 1 or 0% it logs how long the battery lasted.
This could then be used to compare battery life on a range of Android devices.
