Motorola Droid X : Anyone Used Rooted 2.1 Method For OTA?
Oct 4, 2010
Anyone used THIS method for the OTA? I used Androot for 2.1 and am just curious if I can simply unroot, do the OTA, then use this method to root again. Suggestions?

Currently I have an Eris with v3 Leak meaning I can't root. But my wife loves my phone so I plan on giving her mine and either getting another eris and rooting or a Moto Droid and rooting. I've been trying to read up on the Droid and the different ROMS available and have some questions.First I want to make a few things clear:
1. This IS NOT a phone comparison.
2. The Incredilble IS NOT an option since it can't be rooted and I don't want to spend $200 on it.
3. I'm looking for WELL INFORMED OPINIONS, if you don't have one keep moving there is nothing to see here.
To be fair I've obviously done a lot more reading on the Eris which is why I'm looking for well informed opinions from Droid owners that way I can make a well informed decision.

I have been reading myself in circles & am a bit confused on which way to go. I am enjoying the Evo but I would like the wireless tether. I guess there are other rooted things in the future I could install but the big draw for me is replacing my wmwifirouter on my WM device on my Evo.
I just don't know what the downsides are for one over other other. I think that Fresh has tethering already built in but I don't know if there are issues with the SD card or other items. Or should I just get the stock ROM that is rooted over at XDA?

Well, it's being reported, however not confirmed that the Droid Incredible has finally been rooted. He's also reporting that he's OCed to 1.5GHz.What's more he's working on 2GHz.Good Lord, could you imagine?I've been saying that as of right now, based on personal preference, that a rooted Droid is the best option. But this will def start to sway opinions, including mine.

I updated to the new Froyo leak and lost root (I assume)
-I cannot reboot Bootstrap
-Root Explorer and Barnacle do not work
-I still have the Superuser app, but it does not seem to be working
If I am correct that I lost root, I would like to try the Droid2 method
I have downloaded the SDK and the Moto drivers. I am in PC Mode with USB debugging enabled
My problem is when I get to this line C:android-sdk-window ools> and try adb devices, it says List of devices attached.
That is it. Nothing seems to be attached. If anyone can figure out what I am doing wrong I would greatly appreciate it. I know I shouldn't be the first to jump on new roms and leaks, but you have to learn sometime right?

Im running the 2.3.9 leak, will this update load the new bootloader along with 2.3.15, or is it the leaked 2.3.15? After using this method will I still be able to use the 2.1 sbf? Also if I update to leaked 2.3.15, can I use a 2.3.9 nandroid to go back?

If this has been asked I cannot find it. What is the easiest, quickest method for root right now? There seems to be a new method being developed every week. I know there are basebands available to load that will help with the signal issues. Are there fixes with root that will resolve the audio issue with Pandora?

I've been quietly lurking around, enjoying my simple 2.2 leak Droid X. But, I've always known that eventually I want to root it and install ROMs and themes and whatnot. The problem is, I don't know the correct sequence of hacks/mods to get to my desired end product. I also don't know what the current best method is for accomplishing each part of the sequence. My desired end product would be something like a rooted Droid X with Vanilla Froyo and flyX and whatever other speed tweaks are available. I'd also like to keep my apps and settings that I have now, if that's possible. What I'm asking for is a simple list of things to do to get to that end product. I don't need the detail of how to do each one, I can figure that out myself (of course, if you want to provide links, that's be appreciated too).

I was thinking about rooting with the droid 2 method. After that I'm unclear what is the safest method.
1. Run Titanium backup
2. Koush's bootstrap recovery
3. install rom manager
4. flash a theme (which is the main reason i want root)
Is that my safest, most recoverable (is that a word) method? Or what should i do after root to be the most safe from bricking my phone?

I have searched the Android store, and also searched these forums but maybe some more advanced Droid users can help me find an answer.
As with the iphone, inputting a new phone number within seconds is rather difficult on the Droid. That got me wondering if there were any third party apps or at least a way through the device OS that will let me quickly add a new contact. So far as I can tell the quickest way is to hit Phone--> input # --->option key---> add to contacts ---> Create new contact. That is 6 steps just to take someone's number! There's got to be a better way.

I just purchased Touchdown by Nitrodesk (incredible app) and was curious how to get the Droid to stop syncing my emails, etc. through their own method? Please be specific with step-by-step instructions of how to disable my corporate account. I only want to have emails going into the "email" folder that are from my personal email moving forward.

I have a non-rooted Motorola Droid running 2.2 and I want to root to try out a ROM. I want to make sure I do this right. I don't want to lose any data (pictures, texts, etc) and I don't want to lose any apps. I've read a bunch of threads and it sounds like this is the general order I should proceed in:
1 - Backup data with MyBackupPro
2 - Root
3 - Backup apps with Titanium Backup
4 - Install ROM
Is this correct? Am I missing anything? Will the root method or ROM make a difference in terms of the process?

I have not really found any threads in these forums deticated just to overclocking the Droid. I am running BB v.9 and would like to overclock past 600 mhz. I have 2 overclocking utilities. (Setcpu, and overclock widget) I understand that I have to update or flash the Kernel. I tried doing this OverClocking Motorola Droid To 1.3 GHz In 7 Easy Steps | areacellphone.com
The adb commands were successfull. WHen I rebooted my droid it was bricked (well not really cause I did a Nandroid backup right before I did this) It was just frozen with the white Motorola logo. Perhaps I downloaded a bad 800 mhz evilboot8.img.

I just ran a anti virus program and it says I am rooted. I do not want to be rooted. I did click on the shole updater but I never opened it up because I am a chickenshit and know my limitations. I thought the scan found the download and assumed I was rooted so I deleted the download ( I never opened or saw any type of process). AV still says I am rooted. How can I look to see if I am or not rooted?

I'm a bit noobish since this is my first Android phone, so please forgive me. I rooted my Droid X running 2.1 using the GUI program. I used Root Explorer to rename a few bloatware apps. I did not make any other changes, just installed Titanium Backup and used it to make a backup. To successfully install the OTA update to 2.2, what do I need to do? I read that I need to restore the bloatware. Do I also need to unroot first? I've also read in a couple places something about moving Superuser.apk from bin to xbin. Is that what I need to do to stay rooted in 2.2?

So (as far as I can tell) I've successfully rooted.I've been searching around and trying to install SPRecovery so I can backup using nandroid or whatever and install ROMs, with no luck. Is SPRecovery a file I need to download after rooting? If so, where can I find it? And after backing up, where do I find and how to I install ROMs?I know I'm probably posing questions that have been answered, but in this forum and elsewhere I cannot seem to find a simple, step-by-step set of instructions of what to do after initially rooting.

Howdy gang: Back in the 2.0.1 days, I rooted my droid, using the "root your droid.com" guide. I never did anything with it, never loaded any Roms (planed on it, just never got around to it) When 2.1 came out, I did the OTA. After the OTA, I still have the "super user" ninja icon. Now I want to jump on the 2.2 bandwagon and I need root. But do I still have root? how can I tell?

Hey everyone. So a couple of weeks ago i took the plunge and rooted and haven't looked back. I wanted to get rid of my ipod for the gym seeing as i carry my phone anyway so i spent a few hours making playlist (i have over 20gb of music to go through) and used isyncr to put them on the droid. Great app by the way. Anyway so i tryed to pair my bluetooth headphones to the droid and it just scanned and never found the headphones. I tried like 20 times and yes i had the phone discoverable. So i had my Lt. at work try it on his android phone and the hooked right up. Is there something that could have happen in the root that messed up my bluetooth. Running sholes 2.0.6. Went to droid mod1 but it was killing my battery so i went back to sholes. Any help would be great.

I followed the sticky to the letter and rooted. I downloaded/paid for Setpcu and Temp Monitor.
I want to install one of the custom ROM's, but need help with two things. First, which one is best/most stable? Secondly, I need a ROM installation for Dummies, sort of like the sticky above.

I rooted my phone yesterday and everything went pretty smooth. Did a simple nandroid backup too. Installed setcpu and both version of rom manager. Here is the problem. everythime I try to run clockworkmod manager I get this error "An error occured while attempting to run privileged commands" I did download a cyanogen rom but nothing. Can't reboot in recovery either.
When I go to setcpu in in read only mode and can't change anything. it says "no root access detected are application have permissions?"
Ans last, When I open superuser permissions, Screen is black and can't see nothing. is this normal?
