I'm usings SM Updater, it's asking me if I want to wipe /data and says to do so if I'm running 2.1. I don't know what Sholes 2.0.3 is based off or if I should do this b/c the rom is different than stock?

i installed the new smoked glass 4.5. To do so i had to restore all defaultes including all my apps. Do i have to this everytime i flash a new rom? I read for other phone you have to. is this the case for the moto too?

What I'm concerned about is how easy it is to restore/re-do all of your settings like ringtones, notification settings, app settings etc. How long does it usually take you to set up your phone again after installing the new rom?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you do not root, you could go from 2.0.1 to 2.1 with no wiping of data and cache, it just installs & away you go. Same with 2.1 to 2.2. No wiping of data and cache and all is still there as you left it: apps, settings, preferences, etc. SO, why is it important to do this if you root? What's the difference? And, who said it was important to do? Is there some exact proven logic on why if your rooted you must do this and if not, your somehow fine? That 1 step difference causes a lot of extra work, so I am wondering why this is said to be a must for rooters and non rooters need not do it when they get updates?
View 18 Replies View RelatedAfter I received the OTA to 2.1 I have noticed more lag when scrolling between home screens, using 2D games is painful with the framerate reduction, and many items that are running in the background without me ever starting them. I also cannot seem to keep them closed either. I can also say that I am getting worse battery life now than I was with 2.0.1. I was wondering what would actually happen if I rebooted into Recovery Mode and did a Factory Reset with Data Wipe. Would this possibly help with the update causing these problems that were not there before?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIm running CyanogenMod 5.0.5.7 with BlackIceTheme right now and im wanting to switch to NexTheme 2.0 so just switching themes not roms i went ahead and downloaded it on rom manager and installed it without wiping data/cache when the phone rebooted it had no signal and still had part of the BlackIce theme and parts of nextheme so no i need to wipe data/cache before installing this theme

Do u have to wipe all data and cache before u switch Roms, if not what happens? I am afraid of losing all of my apps and contacts even tho my gmail will restore my contacts how do I know if it has the contacts saved and how would I get my apps back? One more thing, do u have to make more than one backup if u already have one that u r happy with?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI downloaded rsdlite set up the drivers and flashed the 2.1 sbf, I was on the leaked 2.2. on Droid X it says to boot into recovery and wipe system and data, but if I try to go into recovery it just shows a triangle with a ! inside it. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed UD8 for about a week now. But ever since I have flashed some kernels (slayers 1100lv, chevys 1100 lv, p31200) I have not had the stability nor the quickness that the original 800 stock kernel gave.
I made a nandroid backup b4 flashing those roms..so my question is this: Do i have to wipe cache/data before i flash my nandroid backup? Or can i just flash it w/o doing any extra steps?

I keep hearing about Pete's Bugless Beast. My question is, which of the two is better? I am not looking for opinions but more or less facts as to why someone would flash BB over Sholes or vise versa. I'm loving my Droid so far and I just rooted it today with Sholes 1.2 ROM. I'm not that impatient to install a 2.1 ROM on my phone, as I already like 2.0.1 enough to keep it stock.I was curious about installing some of the 2.1 apps on it, which is why I ended up installing Sholes 1.2. However, I've noticed that it seems to take quite a bit of my memory compared to stock 2.0.1. In fact, it seems to run slower in general than the stock 2.0.1. Is there any way to improve this, or should I just wait for the 2.1 OTA?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI wasn't having much luck with the video recording, but saw a thread on how to improve the quality with a few modifications. Thread here: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/39706-higher-quality-video-recording.html. It suggested that I change the bps from 300,000 to 800,000. I couldn't really figure out how to do it, so I never did. I eventually installed the Sholes ROM from the Market and noticed an instant improvement in video quality. I checked my Astro file, (in the system/build file as in the link posted above), and noticed that it is now set to 900,000 bps, rather than 300,000 obviously this was changed automatically by the Sholes ROM. Just another confirmation that the Sholes was a great decision, for me at least. Here's a couple of videos to show the difference. This is a breakfast/storage room and my dog, Riley, who never knows exactly how to behave in front of the camera.

Need to wipe data from the bootloader on DroidX. Stuck in a bootloop with no working vol - button to clear data from recovery. Have tried every sbf out there but none of them wipe data (as they likely shouldn't). Told Verizon my battery went dead during an update and now it just keeps restarting.

My screen is basically broken. It works for a split second when first starting up (cold boot), and flickers off and doesn't turn on. Everything else works. I'm planning to resell for parts; I think I've invested way too much for this phone (screen broke before, and then got stolen, and now broken screen again). I would like to erase all data on the phone. I would normally do this through Clockwork recovery, but can't on the account of being blind due to broken screen.
I did come across this thread, but it still left me questions. Is reformatting system necessary? How would reflash my ROM via ADB? What about wiping Dalvik cache? Is dalvik stored within the cache partition?
