Motorola Droid :: Static On Voice Calls / Way To Fix?

View 9 RepliesI have really enjoyed everything about the Droid in the 5 days I've had it, except call quality. I switched from an iPhone 3G and the droid can do everything my iPhone could and more, and then I placed a phone call.
My phone was updated to 2.0.1 right at the Verizon store. I left, made a call, and am now regretting leaving my iPhone. I get horrible choppiness, static, and muffled voice on my end. On the other end everyone I call can hear me great. I have tried the *228 options 1 and 2, changing to evrc-b(or whatever it was called) and 13k, privacy off, basically every setting i could find.
Went to the Verizon store, the saleswoman said it was normal and that all phones do that. I laughed, said I was gonna quit this "awesome network" and go back to "crap" AT&T, then they exchanged the phone no problem. Of course this fixed nothing and here I am making phone calls and repeating, "what did you say?" until I can make out some words.
Don't get me wrong, I like Verizon and I've had them before and I never had any issues with call quality, which brings me to believe it's strictly the phone. I may have gotten the occasional dropped call on the iPhone(once a week at most) but at least my calls were all clear.
So I've noticed some background hiss during voice calls on my Eris. I thought the update would fix it, but so far it hasn't done a thing.
Has anyone had this happen with their phone? I'm thinking of just exchanging it for a new one...
I'm as just at 30% battery after 10-11 hours of use and made an 8 minute call, first of the day, and suddenly it was down to 20% and said voice calls had been 25% of my battery for the day. what is going on?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to make google voice calls to an international number (from the US to South Korea) for free using the Google Voice app on my Dx? How do I make sure Google Voice is making the call and that I am not being charged international fees?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs anyone else seeing this behavior?right before I make a voice call the droid will show 4 bars, when I place a voice call it will drop to 0 bars and the voice quality is pretty bad.In the phone settings you can see the DBm signal strengh and before I make a call it will show -96 and when I make a call it will go to -104.I have noticed this even when right on top of a cell tower.You actually don't notice it when the signal is very strong, but on my droid it does appear that the signal degraded significantly when doing a voice call.It also does the same thing when the Wifi is turned on, it's almost like it's switching to another antenna for the voice when wifi is on or you make a call.So far I have not been impressed with the phones voice quaility at all.
View 32 Replies View Relatedso everyonce in a while at the beginning of a phone call i get this crackling static sound till i hang up and retry the phone call then its fine didnt know what the cause of this could be?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis seems to happen mostly when I'm talking to one person, but every now and then I'll hear static on the line when I start to talk. Sometimes when I sniff it happens, or if we talk over each other. It doesn't happen on other calls, so is it the other phone perhaps?
View 22 Replies View RelatedI have class A, with methods foo and bar, that are implemented by A1 and A2. The functionality in both A1 and A2 is the same. In other words:
public class A {
public int foo() { return 0; };
public int bar() { return 1; };
} class A1 extends A {
public int AnotherFooFunction() { return foo();
} public int AnotherBarFunction() { return bar();
} } class A2 extends A {
public int AnotherFooFunction() { return foo();
} public int AnotherBarFunction() { return bar();
} }
Is it better to keep the code in this fashion, or to swap out those virtual methods as static methods? (In Java, everything non-final/non-private is considered virtual, right?) According to the Designing for Performance section in the Android Developer Docs, I should swap out these virtual methods for static ones. So the above becomes:
public class A {
public int foo() { return 0; };
public int bar() { return 1; };
} class A1 extends A {
public int AnotherFooFunction() { return A.foo();
} public int AnotherBarFunction() { return A.bar();
} class A2 extends A {
public int AnotherFooFunction() { return A.foo();
} public int AnotherBarFunction() { return A.bar();
} }
Is this how it "ought" to be? I fully realize that I may be misinterpreting this paragraph in the docs.
I'm looking for an app. that will allow me to record calls(my voice only) or take voice notes during a call. I've tried a few but it seems neither of them works on android 2.2.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I am using Apps, IE. Facebook, Messing, or Browseing the web, I miss incoming calls, the caller (WIFE and others) goes directly to my voice mail, I have checked to see it the check box in the contacts section is check or not (the one that tells the contact to go to VM), and it is UNCHECKED, yet calls still goto VM, the even go to VM after i am done surfen or Texting, is there some way to tell the phone or a check box that i can check to accept all incoming calls no mater what i am doing, i have even called CS to see if CALL FWDing got turned on some how, they told me nope!
View 7 Replies View RelatedOne day about 3 weeks ago I missed a few calls from a friend because the phone did not ring.I had a special ringtone assigned to the person, so I checked to see if there was something wrong with the person's Contacts entry that would make the phone not ring.When I looked, the box was checked where it says "Send calls directly to voicemail".I know that I never checked that box intentionally, so I unchecked it.That was about 3 weeks ago.Yesterday the same person called 3 times and the phone never rang, so I looked at the Contacts entry again and, sure enough, the box was checked again!I carry my phone in a holster on my belt, so it can't be that the box was inadvertently checked by the phone moving around in my pocket.Has anyone else had this experience?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAll my calls are going directly to voice mail. The phone does not ring. I have disabled call forwarding by calling *73, but it still does it. I called Verizon, but they are no help. I am rooted.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have experienced making a call where I can hear the other person on the line but they can't hear me. Also, why does ending a call take forever. Also the the voice dialer can't even recognize what I am saying it always gives me the wrong information in need. Is there a calibration for the voice dialer to train my voice?
View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how I can change something in the settings to remove the +1 in front of all of my incoming numbers?
Example: +1(555)555-5555
When someone leaves me a message and i press callback it calls that number and Verizon wont recognize that +1 extension in front of the area code.
I've done a bunch of searching on google and elsewhere on this in the past but have not seem to have found anything on the topic, but it came back on my mind today after making a call.
Almost [anytime?] I am speaking on the phone [with anyone?] I will intermittently get a "touch tone" sound blasted in my ear randomly. At first I thought it may have been because my ear/face was hitting a button on the screen, but this happens even when the keypad is hidden. The other odd thing is that it only seems to happen on MY end, the caller on the other end will *NEVER* hear it when I have asked.
I *do* use google voice for all my calls. I do not know if this happens outside of GV or if it has anything to do with it. Any ideas why this could be, or has anyone run into this issue?
Today it was in my mind because it was happening a LOT (every minute or so) when I was talking to one of my friends. I never took note about it happening more often with her vs. other people or not [honestly, I don't use TALK so much on my phone] but we had a longer conversation today and it kept happening randomly.
It's definitely coming through the headset and not out of the speaker (ie: it will drown out the voice on the other end), and I did disable all touch-tone sounds on the phone. It is the sound you would receive through a regular phone system through the headset, not a chinsy "beep" or something the phone itself would make, it's coming across the "line" but again only I am hearing it.
I changed the voice mail number from *86 (version default) to my Google voice number. This works when I am not answering the phone and I the caller gets connected to my GV account. But when my phone is not in coverage the caller gets my version voice mail. Appreciate if someone can correct my settings or suggest any app that does it. I am from Windows mobile world and missing those settings when you can define several settings for voice mail (unanswered, rejected, unavailable etc...)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Eclipse Juno and I'm working on an app with that.
The main activity will have a scrollable menu that takes you to all the other activities.
So the general structure/outline right now:[HIGH]Relative Layout ImageView (header logo type thing) ListView (the actual scrollable menu)[/HIGH]Here's the problem though... I can't find any simple list tutorials. I can easily make a single line list work but I need to make a two line list and one that is static, not dynamic and no examples are out there for that. It's like if you want to make a 2 line list, you can only learn how to do it in the most code-heavy ridiculous way possible.
Essentially what I am looking for with the list is this: Item one: Centred, bold, non selectable title (Resources)
- Item two-??: two line list items, click-able to a new activity, title of the section on first line, description on the second line.
- Item ??: Centred, bold, non selectable title (Tools)
- Item ??-??: two line list items, click-able to a new activity, title of the section on first line, description on the second line.
Nothing dynamic that is ever going to change, no super complex wonkey calculations, just to simply have the data set in stone (preferably via XML) and to call it into the list.
I experimented with some of the other list views and no matter what I did, I could get, via editing the resources and NOT using Java, more that one item on a single line but it wouldn't format it properly according to the layout I guess because I haven't got the ID correct or whatever I don't know.
I mean, all the examples I've seen for a 2 line list are extraordinarily over-coded and just bloated. I mean I have a website I am still working on in C#/ASP.net that has far more complex things in it with half the code that I've seen for the examples of the two line lists.
I tried on my own to figure it out (I am decent with C# and vaguely familiar with Java, self taught, and programming for some other systems like Python, again all self-taught), but like ALL coding references, they're organised by the actual code you implement (that you don't know) instead of by what you want it to do (so you have to search the whole code base to find something that you don't know what it's called but know what it does). >:C
i want to display a msg to the user (msg box or Toast) when exception happend in a static SQLite Database class that i use. the problem is that i cant call a non static method in a static class , how can i handle this. this is the class
private static SQLiteDatabase getDatabase(Context aContext) {
and i want to add something like this in the class when exception happen but context generates the problem of reference to non static in static class.
Context context = getApplicationContext();
CharSequence text = "Hello toast!";
int duration = Toast.LENGTH_SHORT;
Toast toast = Toast.makeText(context, text, duration);
toast.show();
I'm having some issues with the old "Cannot make a static reference to a non-static method" error in my Android program. I am creating a sand falling game (similar to the Powder Game) and I created a class called Control to create a Control Bar at the bottom of the screen with a slider for brush size (that works fine) and a button to pop up a Dialog to allow users to pick the selected element. However, when I call DemoActivity.showDialog(2) from my code, it gives the static reference to non-static error (DemoActivity is the main activity of my application). I also tried changing it to just Activity.showDialog(2), but I got exactly the same error!
Here's my code:
CODE:................
I fixed it by adding the following to my Control.java code:
CODE:..........
And then calling control.setActivity(this); from my onResume section of DemoActivity.java!
Is there a way to set the background image as static so it doesn't span across each desktop?
I'm using Open Home if it makes a difference..
I am modifying the source code here: http://thinkandroid.wordpress.com/2009/12/30/getting-response-body-of-httpresponse/
I get this error:
code:.............
This error is line 13 on the second box.
I've got the google voice app installed and set to make all calls through GV but finding the phone app isn't making calls using GV. Anyone else running into this? Tried restarting the phone with no change.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy jabra BT8040 worked perfectly with my Evo for the last 3-4 months. Then the other day, I lost connection to phone and had to re-connect (even having to re-enter the pairing code). After this, Now I can hear media through the blue tooth, however, I can no longer make / receive voice calls through the bluetooth even though it says it's paired. Tried a bunch of things (including re-pairing) and nothing seems to work. I'd hate to buy a new bluetooth and have the same problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot make any calls with my Incredible all of a sudden - I cannot even reach my voice mail. Every time I try to dial out there is about 10 seconds of silence followed by beeps and then the message on screen says "Network Status: The network is busy. Please try again later." The problem started this morning and I haven't been able to make any calls since then. I have a great network signal (3-4 bars) and I can check email, surf the web and everything. I am not aware of any update that might have caused this.

It is very sporatic but happens quite frequently. Sometimes i will see an incoming call, hear the ringer, then when i click "Accept" it appears to be connected, but i hear dead silence. Then about 10 seconds later the call is ended. It may happen a few times in a row, and it also may not happen. I never have any issues dialing out though. I know the people calling me, and sometimes it is people who don't call regularly. They wouldn't play games like prank call me.
If i have 3.5mm -> aux jack plugged into the phone for music, will this interfere will accepting / making calls through the car bluetooth while audio jack is plugged in? (I do not have A2DP on my car bluetooth thus using to 3.5mm -> aux for music)
