Nov 29, 2009
Just as the title says. I see within contacts where it says family, friends etc. But how do I set up a group contact list such as "friends", "family" etc?

I can call people directly from my computer with GV (new Gmail integration), I'm really considering telling all my friends to use my new GV number. Right now some of them have my GV number but never call it, just my regular cell number. How did some of you make your friends use the GV number instead of your old one? Maybe I should just steal all their phones when they go to the bathroom or something and program it in myself? I'm wondering if it will add any extra charges through their cell plan. I picked a number that doesn't have an area code of where I actually live, it's actually a city about 4 hours away. That's the main thing I'm worried about, I don't want them to have to have any additional fees when they call/text my GV number.

I am new and recently bought the moto droid. I just got a google voice account and set it up. I do not have a friends and family plan. I have a $39.99 package with unlimited data($29.99). So is there a way using google voice and sipdroid or something else to make and recieve free calls or do you have to have the friends and family? I have read a couple links that people have provided about setting up sipdroid and I am completely lost.

When I create a contact on the phone and assign a group, there are TWO 'friends' and TWO 'family' groups. All the contacts I setup from my GMail account show up in one 'friends' or one 'family' group. The duplicate groups are both empty. I went to an area where I can delete groups but the empty 'friends' and 'family' groups cannot be deleted. However, it looks like the groups I setup at GMail (where all my contacts are in) CAN be deleted. I'd rather not delete those groups because then those contacts will probably no longer be in a group, and the GMail/GContacts distinction will probably be lost. The reason this is annoying is because when I create a new friend contact from the phone I don't know which 'friends' group to add it to. Has anyone else noticed this? Checking my GContacts only shows one 'friends' group and one 'family 'group', but the way.

My Outlook had 1 set of contacts, I manually put contacts into the Hero. Everything they synced, odd things could sometimes happen. The latest was about 45 minutes ago when Sync ate the picture of my wife. I decided that the problem HAD to be between Outlook and Hero's contacts. I had noticed during all of my other syncs that the Hero would overwrite the bad data in Outlook for me most times, so I made a very bold decision.I deleted all of my contact info from Outlook (I have now realized that "undo" does not work for this) I then plugged in my phone, and told it to sync, knowing that the Hero would put all of my contact info back in. Do you know what happens next? The HTC Sync manager ate all of my friends and family. Because I gave my wife my BB, I deleted all the contacts from it as well, so now, well, looks like i get to start a) attempting to remember everything, and b) entering it all again by hand.

New to Android and trying figure hangouts little. I am already setup in it, am I required to "add" my friends/family to it before I can do texting and such?
On my phone, I know with the Kitkat update it wants to use Google hangouts. I have not set it to use it as it keeps saying I need to add everyone in people to hangouts.
I want to make sure I am going to spam my friends and family to join hangouts as they are not on it and do not want too.

My HTC Hero was delivered today and I am having problems with my contact list. I have 500 plus names and numbers that have been transferred from outlook to the hero and they have come over in the same groups as in outlook but I need more than that. On my windows based palm top (that I am hoping to replace with the hero) I can search for either a persons name or the name of the company they work for.
About 400 of my contacts are work related and I might only use them once or twice a year and without being able to search for a company name I can not find them. It is further complicated because in a lot of cases a company name might have 3 or 4 different people under it. Does anyone know of a contacts app or upgrade that would give me the functionality that I am looking for?

When I first set up my phone, I synced my Google contacts (from 2 accounts). I have since cleaned up my contacts, no longer syncing the Google contacts ... I only have my phone contacts. After cleaning things up, I still have 2 empty "Google" contact groups. My question: Is it possible to remove a contact group? I haven't found a way to do it and I have had no luck searching here or on the rest of the internet. I just want to clear up the clutter. I think it's silly to have 2 empty contact groups.

Is there a way to sync only one specific Google contact group rather than getting everyone that happens to have a phone number from the generic "All Contacts" section? If I go into the standalone Contacts app the only contacts I see on the "Contacts: Google" list are the ones I want but when I go into the contacts in the phone app everyone and their grandparents are listed.

Is anyone else noticing that the three "built-in" groups in Google Voice: Friends, Family and Coworkers are NOT synced? These are my three biggest groups. I'm sure I could create duplicate groups, but that seems silly. Can anyone confirm the same behavior and/or suggest something to get these groups syncing properly?

I'm new to the moment, just coming off the blackberry curve. One feature I liked about the blackberry was the ability to set up a group text, such as "family" and send a text to the entire family. Is there an app or another way to set this up for the Samsung Moment phone?

I have quite a few duplicate contacts in my contact list. Is there a way to edit them directly on the PC instead of through the contact list menu on the phone. Also, without exporting & importing the list as it may create additional duplicates.

I know this is probably basic but I have to ask anyway. When I want to forward a picture or text message to someone else on my contact list I always have to enter information in the "To" box. (Example) In this instance, I want to forward a text message to "Bryan." I hold down the message until the "Forward" option pops up and I select that. In this "To" box I type Bryan and nothing comes up but the number's corresponding number (B=2, R=7, etc) I do not get a drop down list giving me Bryan's name. For any text message I send I have to know the complete number of who I'm wanting to forward it to. Is there a setting I need to adjust? Or is there a app that will give me the option of bringing up my contact list so I can just select the person I want to send to via touch screen? Its very annoying.
I have searched and read that most people can just type the first few letters of a name or number and get a list of people from the contact list to choose from on the contact list however I never get anyone Thank you for any information.

Sometimes I like to get rid of all the texts etc. from someone on my phone. But on the X, I can delete the text message, no problem. But how do I delete the history from under my contacts. What I mean is when you go to your contact list and select a contact you can view the contact but then move the screen over and view all recent history with them. That still sits there after a text thread has been deleted. Is there a way to prevent this from even happening or at least some way to delete the history?

Got my phone today. Problem is I went to the verizon store, had them transfer contacts from my blackberry and when I go to contacts, it is empty other than the phone default numbers. If I go to "All contacts" the list is populated with my regular phone numbers +600 facebook friends i do not care about. How can I get it so I only have the numbers I want?

After the update I have noticed several changes, 90% have been welcomed & appreciated.Next thing I know I go to make a call from my contact list and there are zero contacts the really weird part is, if I am texting and filling out the to-whom line, it will automatically populate contacts as if my contact list never vanished it may have been coincidental that this took place the day of the update, but that's where u guys come in.let me know if u have had the same issue.

So I have something like 470 people in my Google Contacts under "All Contacts" and only about 60 under "My Contacts." I like it that way, because then my Droid contact list isn't full to the brim with people whose numbers I really don't need at the touch of my fingertips. That being said, however, it would be very cool if somehow the "All Contacts" section of my Google Contacts could be used to identify incoming phone calls.
For instance:
I want my Brother's phone number in My Contacts so I can call him.
I don't want my ex girlfriend's Stacey's number in My Contacts because I don't need to call her.
I still have my ex-girlfiend's contact info under "All Contacts" because there's no reason to delete it outright.
I would, however, like for my Droid's caller ID to tell me that the person calling me is "Stacey" instead of "unknown caller."
Am I asking too much? I know I could just add everyone to "My Contacts" and that would work, I just don't necessarily want 500 people in my Droid phone book. It's unnecessary. Or even apps that do this?

Is there a way to make it so that the facebook contacts, etc, don't show up in your default contact list? I just want to show the names and phone numbers of the people that I have actually programmed into my phone, not everyone that I have on facebook.
