Motorola Droid : Real Estate App For Andriod Similar To Zitter For IPhone?

Is there a real estate app out there for the Droid similar to Zitter for the iPhone?
i want to create a real estate app.
1) How should i make the client-server communication? is it good solution to use json? is there any good tutorial for this?
2) the biggest problem is how to handle the google maps. I guess that retrieving all the markers from the server and add them to the map would cause the application to be very slow. I have two thoughts on this problem but neither of them is perfect.
i. The user can choose a specific country and town and after the appropriate query in server's database only the correct markers will be added to the map. But in this case if the user scrolls out of the city's bounds, the markers of the other cities won't be shown.
ii. Add only the markers that are visible in screen. The problem with this solution is that it will be probably less effective to scan a huge amount of markers, to check which of them are inside the visible area (compare coordinates).
How do you think trulia or other real estate apps handle this problem? They have a huge amount of markers (houses) and their apps are very responsive.
Do they make queries every time the user changes react with the map?
Do they copy all of their markers in a list in their code and handle them inside their java code?
Do they have categorized them in a special way?
I created a custom dialog that I'm dynamically putting views into via a RelativeLayout. Every time the dialog is displayed, it shows all my child views just great, but it has some space at the top that I can not account for. I'm assuming this is reserved for a "title" of the dialog (which I won't have). Is there a way to remove that space and have my custom dialog just wrap the contents that I'm putting in?
here is the xml for the layout: Code...
no matter what I do or how I change the layout file, I always have that buffer at the top, how can I get rid of that?
First of all, I am not saying that I prefer the iPhone over the Droid X at all. HOWEVER, I am terribly jealous over their cases!! I haven't seen the iPhone 4 cases, but for iPhone 3G and 3GS, their cases are just sweet.
an example of the case I'm talking about is:
Incase Slider Case for iPhone 3G (White) - Apple Store (U.S.)
Everyone that I know has an iPhone has a case similar to the one i put above.
I really love the design, simplicity, smoothness and the color of the cases.
Does anyone know where I can find a case for Droid X similar to the iPhone's?
I've been looking for a while to find an application that turn a folder filled with photos into a virtual book, where you can turn the pages, each page being a picture.
Do you guys know any app that could do the job ? Or something that is similar?
i'd like to have iPhone similar tabbar in my Android-Applications or to write my own tabbar.I found already, how to place tabs at screen's bottom. It's really easy.I found this tutorial as well, which looks very nice, but it works (is it true?!) only on SDK 1.6 and later, because of setIndicator(View v)But maybe anybody know easy possibility to do iPhone-like tabbar or can send some links?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just switched over from iPhone to Android and am looking for something similar to where in the iPhone SDK, when a class finishes a certain task, it calls delegate methods in objects set as it's delegates.I don't need too many details. I went through the docs and didn't find anything (the closest I got was "broadcast intents" which seem more like iOS notifications).Even if someone can point me to the correct documentation, it would be great.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm sure that there has to be a thread about this somewhere, but I've looked quite a bit and can't seem to find one. Before my Dell Streak (now running 2.1, using the the Swype keyboard), I had an iPhone. I definitely don't miss much about it, but one thing that was nice was, when scrolling through large amounts of text, a circle would appear that looked something like a magnifying glass and I would have the ability to pinpoint exactly where I wanted to place my cursor when editing text. With my current setup, I have trouble landing the cursor accurately when I touch in a large body of text. I'd even settle for arrow, like on a regular keyboard. Ideally, I am looking to accomplish this while keeping Swype functionality.

View 28 Replies View RelatedWe have a great software foundation based on Microsoft MVC 2, Entity Framework 4, Repositories, POCOs, Service and Control layers, C# Views, JQuery and html. Firefox pulls 100 records in 250 ms, drops it in to a template, links the data to the markup, and we sit back and drink margaritas.
Boss walks in and says he wants an iPhone app. I bet we need an Android app too.
What frameworks could we use to easily jump from our Microsoft comfort zone in to the wide, wide world of the Apple iPhone / iPad, along with a follow-up Android baby.
I imagine we could use our JSON controller methods to communicate. Is there some type of a client side JavaScript consuming app framework we could get a reasonable Website like interface re-working? They didn't like the idea of simply running the whole thing in Safari, which works pretty well.
Needs:
Send and receive JSON objects
Some type of template engine so we can pair up objects to markup, or at least some way to separate design from programming
Something similar to JQuery would be nice
A good editor with auto-complete and highlighting, something that compares to VS2010
It took us two years to incorporate design patterns, Agile methods, and Domain Driven concepts using MVC and Javascript. We may have two or three months to re-produce the same functions.
I want a ListView to have rubber-band (or bounce) effect while scrolling. Just similar to iPhone lists.

View 2 Replies View RelatedTrip this weekend to a competition my son was involved in...we had to drive about 150 miles to another city, navigate between four different locations while up there, and then get back home the next day. The previous year when we'd gone to this event we had gotten lost twice and actually missed being able to watch most of one event we were so late. So the pressure was huge to avoid a similar situation this year.I set up nav shortcuts on one of my home pages to each of the four locations in the other town the night before. So in the morning we pulled out of the garage, I tapped the icon for the first destination and off we went, faultlessly directed to our hotel.
On the way there, my wife says "I'd really like to hear some music, do you have any Elton John?" (So sue her, she's a child of the 70's. ) "Nope," says I "but I think I know where we can find some." So I tell her how to fire up Slacker on the Droid and she enters "Elton John" and a few seconds later she is rocking to the sound of "Crocodile Rock" and various other artists she likes.Nav interrupted Elton et al when necessary to provide directions.Used the shortcuts the rest of the weekend to move between the four locations w/out fault. Looked up traffic a few times to decide whether to bail on a route or not.No screams of "What street do I turn on, what street!?!" from me, and no wails of "I can't tell, I can't tell - Oh the humanity!!!" from my wife. Pure wedded bliss maintained, with Slacker providing the 70's soundtrack for the our weekend montage.
Coming to the Eris from an iPhone, the biggest issue with me so far has been the difference in applications between the two platforms, specifically games. For those out there like myself that have struggled to find any games that may be worth playing on an android phone, I give you this post from Gizmodo. There Are No Good Games On Android, If You Ignore All These Good Games On Android - Android games - Gizmodo
I have tried a few of the games on here so far and they seem to be pretty fun. One that I have spent a good time playing is Shoot U, which is similar to ragdoll blaster on iPhone if anyone has played that before. Anyway, enjoy!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am really getting sick of the short battery on my Incredible. As much as I hate the physical buttons on the X,I'm still contemplating moving to the X from the Dinc.I still have about 10 days to decide and I was hoping you guys might be willing to share your use of the phone and how long it is lasting. Yesterday I surfed for about an hour, Pandora for an hour, 20 minutes of phone calls, 5-10 text messages and emails (short ones), and about a dozen photos taken at the lowest res the camera offers (keep 'em small).I played Jewels about an hour total. No GPS, No Wifi for the day.I don't do twitter, facebook, etc. and don't have any apps running that are drains like live wallpapers and other "monitoring" software.I started at about 7:30 and the phone shut off around 6:40 or so -- about 11 hours. This is with the "bump charge" so I started with a completely full battery.

View 7 Replies View RelatedHere's my issue: Came from a windows mobile phone. However, one area winmo is obviously good at is exchange support. Here's what I mean:
I regularly receive and forward large attachments (PDFS - usually 10 megs or so), and the winmo phone made it easy to do so when out of the office. I'd just hit forward and away it would go. The phone would tell the exchange server to forward the mail, and it was done. The phone never actually downloaded any attachments to forward, unless of course I wanted to download it for viewing.
I've found this phone instead of just telling the exchange server to forward the message actually has to download the attachment, then resend the attachment. This is stupidity in it's fullest when working with a 10 meg attachment. Instead of taking a split second to forward something it'll take minutes to download, then minutes to upload, and obviously shorten battery life considerably. So my question is - am I missing settings, or is the installed mail application not able to do so - and are there any android mail applications that will forward attachments off an exchange server without actually downloading the attachment first?
