Android :: Possible To Make Droid Tabs Slide / Get Similar Effect Without Them?

Apr 11, 2010

I'm new to Android development, and I was wondering if anyone knew either how to make Tabs slide, or how to get a similar effect without tabs. I have quite a few tabs in my application, and it does not look good on devices with smaller screens. Or maybe tabs are not what I am looking for. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'd like to reproduce something similar to Photoshop.com Mobile's effects screen. I know this is possible.

I was interested in making a springy-bouncing effect for ListViews similar to one in iphone.I wanted to make sure about a few things before implementing it.

2). Do Google plan to add this feature in any future versions of the SDK?

Android :: How To Get Rid Of ListView Flicker Effect?

For some reason, whenever I scroll through my list of items, the background inside my listview disappears and reappears giving rise to a "flicker" effect which I don't really want. I've tried the suggestion at: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1377336/android-make-listview-transparent but it doesn't work for some reason. Any suggestions?

Android :: Anything Similar To IPhone SDK Delegate Callbacks?

Sep 23, 2010

I just switched over from iPhone to Android and am looking for something similar to where in the iPhone SDK, when a class finishes a certain task, it calls delegate methods in objects set as it's delegates.I don't need too many details. I went through the docs and didn't find anything (the closest I got was "broadcast intents" which seem more like iOS notifications).Even if someone can point me to the correct documentation, it would be great.

Android :: Pinpoint Cursor Placement Similar To IPhone

Sep 19, 2010

I'm sure that there has to be a thread about this somewhere, but I've looked quite a bit and can't seem to find one. Before my Dell Streak (now running 2.1, using the the Swype keyboard), I had an iPhone. I definitely don't miss much about it, but one thing that was nice was, when scrolling through large amounts of text, a circle would appear that looked something like a magnifying glass and I would have the ability to pinpoint exactly where I wanted to place my cursor when editing text. With my current setup, I have trouble landing the cursor accurately when I touch in a large body of text. I'd even settle for arrow, like on a regular keyboard. Ideally, I am looking to accomplish this while keeping Swype functionality.

Android :: Frameworks Similar To Firefox - JQuery - Templates And Data Linking On IPhone

Nov 17, 2010

We have a great software foundation based on Microsoft MVC 2, Entity Framework 4, Repositories, POCOs, Service and Control layers, C# Views, JQuery and html. Firefox pulls 100 records in 250 ms, drops it in to a template, links the data to the markup, and we sit back and drink margaritas.

Boss walks in and says he wants an iPhone app. I bet we need an Android app too.

What frameworks could we use to easily jump from our Microsoft comfort zone in to the wide, wide world of the Apple iPhone / iPad, along with a follow-up Android baby.

I imagine we could use our JSON controller methods to communicate. Is there some type of a client side JavaScript consuming app framework we could get a reasonable Website like interface re-working? They didn't like the idea of simply running the whole thing in Safari, which works pretty well.

Needs:

Send and receive JSON objects
Some type of template engine so we can pair up objects to markup, or at least some way to separate design from programming
Something similar to JQuery would be nice
A good editor with auto-complete and highlighting, something that compares to VS2010

It took us two years to incorporate design patterns, Agile methods, and Domain Driven concepts using MVC and Javascript. We may have two or three months to re-produce the same functions.

Motorola Droid X ::Case For Phone Similar To IPhone's?

Jul 27, 2010

First of all, I am not saying that I prefer the iPhone over the Droid X at all. HOWEVER, I am terribly jealous over their cases!! I haven't seen the iPhone 4 cases, but for iPhone 3G and 3GS, their cases are just sweet.

an example of the case I'm talking about is:

Incase Slider Case for iPhone 3G (White) - Apple Store (U.S.)

Everyone that I know has an iPhone has a case similar to the one i put above.

I really love the design, simplicity, smoothness and the color of the cases.

Does anyone know where I can find a case for Droid X similar to the iPhone's?

Android :: Calling ListView.setSelection Has No Effect When Called Directly After Adapter Data Was Invalidated

May 4, 2009

I have a ListView whose position should be changed automatically along with the data. So, when the adapter's data has changed (adapter is calling notifyDataSetInvalidated), I'm calling setSelection. This has no effect. If the call to setSelection is done later (e.g. in a click handler) it is working.

The second problem is, that the ListView maintains the scroll position of the list although the data is completely invalidated, that makes no sense IMO.

It looks like a call to layoutChildren before the call to setSelection does help in this case, but layoutChildren is protected.

What is the correct way to do this?

Android : How To Create A Closed (circular) ListView - Or Similar

Dec 17, 2009

I want to create a customized ListView (or similar) which will behave like a closed (circular) one:

1. scrolling down - after the last item was reached the first begins (.., n-1, n, 1, 2, ..)

2. scrolling upward - after the first item was reached the last begins (.., 2, 1, n, n-1, ..)

It sounds simple conceptually but, apparently, there is no straightforward approach to do this.

Android : Create A IPhone Like Roller Using ListView?

Mar 16, 2010

I want to create a better NumberPicker then the one used in DatePicker, I looked at the HTC Sense Alarm clock Roller (Looks like the iPhone Spinner/Roller). I want to create something like that.

I've created a listView that looks right, but I need a way to get the current id of the middle row. ListView.getFirstVisiblePosition() kind of do what I want but it will give me +-1 errors. Another problem is that the scrolling should lock into a certain row when "dying" out. These are of couse related and I hope I can solve this by using a custom ListView, but it's hid in the API

Any thoughts on how to solve this?

Motorola Droid :: Fly - Bounce - Skid - Slide Then Dodge

Apr 1, 2010

So in the middle of hooking up a trailer today i received a phone call. answered it quickly then threw it on the toneau cover of my truck and kept hitchin it up. When i leaned over to get my tin out of my back pocket and didnt feel the tight brick in my pants i quickly did a vehicle search and it hit me driving down the road, i look back and see a toneau cover .... with no droid. i flipped around and drove back towards home and sure enough about 4 miles back in the middle of a 4 lane highway was my droid laying faceup, slider open, crying. I jumped out and grabbed it before another car got the priveledge of completely destroying it. found my battery about 50 feet past the phone. never did find the battery cover! But with crossed fingers i popped my battery in and she fired right up. been using it all day without a hitch. It has some serious battle scars, but the screen, camera, and slider all work as if nothing ever happened!
