Motorola Droid :: Problems With USB Recognizing
May 18, 2010
My Droid is for some reason not playing right with my computer. I have the latest Moto device drivers installed for Win7 64... Here is what happened so far, my puppy chewed threw the charger that came with my Droid (no the Droid was not attached to it at the time but the charger was plugged into my computer) When I tried to attach the charger to my phone after this it would go in and out of being attached, like you would expect with a connection that had been chewed threw... So I went to Amazon and ordered a pair of new mini USB cables for the Droid.
Ok so they came in the mail today and so I went to hook my Droid up... and boom got the same in and out connection issues as I did with the ruined USB cable. Eventually it just goes to the bootloader and I can not get out of the bootloader until I unplug the USB and reboot the phone. Here is the other thing when I turn USB Debugging on I no longer get the Moto pop up that I used too when the phone would attach (so I can not use ADB). I have turned off USB Debugging and that seemed to help for a bit, however when I turned it back on it would say that the USB device is not detected or faulty (this also would take the USB connected notification out of my notification bar)...
Ok so I have no idea at this point what I should do... I am using Jrummy's remix of CM 6.0.6.2 (or whatever number it is on :P ) with the DE theme on top of it. I have never had any problems before the puppy chewed threw the old USB cable.

I originally had Vista Ultimate x64 on my computer and when root had come out for the Droid X I plugged it into my computer for the first time. Everything was detected fine and the drivers auto loaded themselves and root was successful.
Flash forward to after vacation, still on Vista, I plugged the Droid into the computer and it wouldn't even detect a connection. It thought it was in an outlet. I tried unmounting the sd card, toggling usb dev, rebooting with the usb in, etc. and nothing worked.
Now I clean installed and put Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and the same thing occurs. I put the Motorola drivers on my pc and the same thing occurs. My Droid doesn't even detect it is connected to a PC, no USB sign pops up on the Droid, nothing. I have tried refreshing Device Manager but nothing shows up.
I am using the original cable supplied with the Droid X.

I'm trying to go back to 2.0.1.
I have everything downloaded and installed including the latest Droid drivers.
It appears as if RSD Lite doesn't recognize that there is a phone attached.
How to get it to recognize my phone?

My phone no longer shows that it's "charging", but it beeps if I unplug it and says to connect the charger. I'm not sure how to restart the phone (I think that might fix the problem) other than taking the battery out. Of course, I pulled the "Pull Me" tab, so it's going to be a pain to get the battery out. I am currently running the 2.2 Froyo leak on my Droid X, and I noticed that there is a Voice Search app in the Market that my phone does not recognize as being installed. Is this an updated version of the software included in the leak?

When I plug my new Droid into my computer (vista home), it is showing the H: removable disk but I can not do anything with it. It just says "Please insert a disk into Removable Disk (H" when I click on it. I was able to sync all my music on Friday, what could possibly be going on now? I am using my roommates Droid USB (don't think that would have anything to do with but thought I would mention).

I USED to be able to transfer files to my Vista32 machine from my Droid Eris (and vice versa) perfectly fine.
WHAT USED TO HAPPEN:
1) Connect Droid Eris to computer via mini-USB/USB cable
2) A little ding from the computer indicates it recognizes something was plugged into the USB port
3) the "safely remove hardware icon" would appear in the system tray of my computer
4) A "USB Connected" Notification would appear up in the notification bar of my Eris
5) Drag the notification bar down and select the "USB Connected" Notification
6) A prompt would come up on my Eris asking me if I'd like to "Mount"...I would.
7) A dialog would open on my computer asking me if I'd like to "Open files to view folders" along with a bunch of other options. In "My Computer" I'd see a drive "F:" for the Eris
8) Move files to and fro
9) When done moving files: close out all windows, open the "safely remove hardware" and click until hardware could safely be removed, unplug USB cable
THE RELATIONSHIP CHANGING EVENT:
Then one day while the USB cable was plugged in and I was happily transferring files I noticed that the safely remove hardware icon wasn't there. Once I was finished transferring files I thought, "Oh well, I'll make sure to close out all Eris related files/folders and just unplug the USB cable." Apparently that was a mistake. (3,7,8,9 are different from before while 1,2,4,5 are the same):
WHAT HAPPENS NOW:
1) Connect Droid Eris to computer via mini-USB/USB cable
2) A little ding from the computer indicates it recognizes something is plugged into the USB port
3) NO safely remove hardware icon appears
4) A "USB Connected" Notification appears up in the notification bar of my Eris
5) Drag the notification bar down and select the "USB Connected" Notification
6) A prompt comes up on my Eris asking me if I'd like to "Mount"...I would. (after selected the notifications changes to read "Select to turn off USB storage" indicating that the phone thinks something has happened
7) NO dialog opens on my computer and NO new drive appears in "My Computer"
8) I'm NOT able to move files to and fro
9) I just remove the cable
BIZARRE UPDATE:
1) I select the "HTC Sync"
notification on my Eris (Really no reason to do this. I don't have HTC Sync installed on my computer and have no need to use it. Just thought I'd select it and see what happens)
2) After some time, dialog "Next Step" comes up reading that the Eris is "Unable to find HTC Sync on [my] PC...". I select "OK"
3) Now a "safely remove hardward icon" appears in the system tray of my computer and I'm able to do all the file transferring I want, close, safely remove hardware, and start again.
ANOTHER PIECE OF INFO:
What "USED" to happen works perfectly find on my roommate's Vista32 machine indicating that there's maybe something funny happening on the PC side of my Eris-PC debacle.

I sync my Eris with Outlook on my computer but have not done so since March 2010. When I now plug my Eris into a USB port, it does not recognize it as another drive or hardware like it used to. The computer does recognize other peripherals when plugged into the USB port.

I had mounted my sd card to transfer files between pc (XP) and eris.
i correctly unmounted from pc (safely remove hardware) and then stopped file sharing on eris.
i took the card out and put in a different one (i don't have a card reader and was trying to transfer some stuff).
when i tried to put the original card back in, my finger slipped as i was pushing it in and it got like halfway in and then popped back out.
the eris saw this as an unsafe removal.
now, it keeps telling me "the sd card is blank or using an unsupported .." something. if i tap on the notification, it just takes to me a window to format it. i keep saying yes to format, but it never formats.
i've tried formatting from settings and tried mounting it again and formatting from the pc. when i do that, the pc says that the drive size is 1.08 TB (?!?!?). this is the 8GB sd card that comes with the eris. and it also won't let me format.
what gives? i've tried taking it out and putting it back in. it keeps saying unsafe removal but the option to unmount is grayed out and i can't choose it.
i tried taking it out, turning off the eris, putting the card in and turning back on. still nothing.
what's going on here?

Ever since I downloaded DoubleTwist it's a hit or miss if it recognizes my device. I plug it in using the usb and then open DowbleTwist and my device does not show up. I have tried switching it from Charge Only mode to Disk Drive Mode and neither work. Sometimes I can open DoubleTwist and it does recognize my device. I don't understand why it's hit or miss?

Since I first got my Epic I've been sometimes using my PC to charge it via USB and it was prompting the Charge/?/Mass Storage menu options. I would always push "Charge".
At some point it quit asking this...
Now I'd like to root and its not giving me this option any more when I plug the Epic into my PC (honestly not sure when it quit asking this question).
I've only had the phone since Monday and am new to Android.
Currently:
Windows XP Pro SP2 32bit - I have downloaded & installed the Samsung x32 drivers
Wifi/BT/4G/GPSff
USB Debugging is off (unchecked)

My phone is not recognizing my sd card. It is mounted in the phone but none of my pictures show up in my gallery. It says no sd card detected when I open the gallery. Also I can take pics but they do not save to the sd card our anywhere that I can find. I tried unmounting the cars but it stol does not recognize it. However, it does show my music like the card is mounted. It just seems to be a problem with the gallery.

I just got my phone a few days ago (Eris) and I put Mp3's on my sd card by transferring from my computer.
When I did this I made a music folder on my sd card and copied and pasted folders of artists into this music folder. Now when I go to look at all my songs in meridian it only shows the band that I first copied and pasted onto the sd card. It doesn't recognize the other songs in the other folders. The only way I can get those songs to play in meridian is by going into astro and selecting the song file and playing in the app.

I have had the HTC hero for about a month now. I have not had any problems up until now. I could listen to any audio file no matter what program I use. But now, some of my files arent showing up. In MixZing, it says "Error opening the audio file". They are .mp3's just like the songs that actually do show up. Any ideas as to why I can only access some of my audio files? BTW they are all put into the same file location on the sd card.

Just recently noticed my Hero is no longer recognizing my headphones.I've tried about four or five different pairs of phones to make sure the ones I had weren't bad, so that's not the problem.Anyone else ever encountered this problem? Also, I just got my phone around New Year's, so I'm obviously still under warranty.I went ahead and used the restore feature so my phone is back to stock instead of being rooted in an attempt to appear as if I haven't voided my warranty.

I'm new to Android development, and am attempting to run a test application on my actual device. I followed the instructions at http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html (and related links), but the Android Debug Bridge (adb) doesn't recognize my connected device.
Some quick background info, I'm running WinXP, developing with Eclipse, with a Motorola Droid running Android 2.1 as my physical device.
An overview of the steps I've taken: Installed the Android SDK, downloading all necessary packages. Enabled USB Debugging on my device. Connected Device via USB, installing the driver from the SDK folder.
I'll stop here (though I continued to setup my application to be debug-able in Eclipse), because I at this point I noticed a problem.
Running "sdkoolsadb devices" at this point (at least, by my understanding), should list my device as connected. However, running this yields only: List of devices attached
My device recognizes that it's connected to a computer in debug mode, and my computer recognizes the device. However, I can't seem to get the sdk to recognize it. I'll leave out the steps I used to setup Eclipse for debugging on a device, as it doesn't seem relevant to the problem. I'll include them if requested.

I think the Dialer is very powerful but I am unable to get it to recognize parts of a phone number. For example, most of my saved numbers include area codes (most of them are 'xyz'). When I type the first three of the 7-digit number (excluding the area code) no results show. It seems as though the area code must be typed in order to get results to show. Obviously, almost 95% of my contacts have an area code of 'xyz' and that's, IMO, too many buttons to press to start narrowing down to get a specific contact. Does anyone know how to change this?

I've tagged my music with my album art and also renamed some songs that were wrong but the music player doesn't seem to recognize some of the changes, I thought that it wasn't liking certain types of album art but looking at some of the files I changed it doesn't seem to pick up the new files. I've basically deleted the old music and replaced it with my new tagged music but the music player doesn't see that but sees the old files, even though they're not on the SD card anymore, they're not in the trash either, so I'm not sure where it's picking them up from. This only happens every now and then and not with all the music. I've restarted the phone and I've used an app called SD rescan and still it doesn't budge, is it picking it up from some database that needs refreshing?

I just got my Droid Incredible a few days ago and am really enjoying it.However, when I use the USB cable to plug in my phone to sync music/movies from my computer (Windows 7, 64 bit), it only recognizes the 2 gig MicroSD card that came with the phone, but not the 8GB Internal Memory. When I plug in the phone, the phone itself asks me if I want to charge or use disk mode and I have it set to disk mode.I can copy to the 2GB MicroSD card with no problems.Tried rebooting the phone and my computer, have all the latest Windows updates, etc.Any idea why my computer isn't seeing the 8GB internal memory? Is there a driver I need to install for it or some other setting on my phone? Can it only see either the microSD card or the Internal memory at one time, so I have to take out the SD card (that would be lame)?

When I plug my Android Backflip into my computer, Windows 7 recognizes it but it never shows up in Eclipse's DDMS. I have the USB Debugging checked under Development on the phone and I can see virtual devices I create just fine in DDMS but never anything at all for Backflip.
Does anyone know of something else that needs to be done? I see some things talking about special tasks for Linux but I am running Microsoft Windows 7!

I'm still really new at this, but this should hopefully be a simple question and answer. I'm trying to just make a button and I've done so in the layout manager. I'm trying to implement it in code, but MotoDev won't recognize the Button class that's part of the android.widget package. I imagine I just have to do something similar to an import but I can't track down what that is.code...

I've noticed that even when I have 3g or 4g, certain apps never connect to the Internet. The apps I've noticed that have this problem are sound Hound, Google now search, spotify and words with friends. These apps will fail to connect to the Internet and say I have no signal, yet I can open Google Chrome and open a Web page no problem (even pages I don't visit that aren't stored in cache) or use the Chive app.

I have a very weird problem regarding adb and Android. I am developing a little script to synchronize a folder's content with another one on the handset using PHP-CLI and ADB. I have no problem with using ADB over PHP but Android has a problem with files pushed via ADB.
Let's say my script found a local folder that is not on the device, to be more accurate, a music folder:
Code:
adb push /Volumes/Data/Music/Example.mp3 /sdcard/Music/Example.mp3
The file is successfully pushed BUT is neither recognized by Google Play Music nor by Android File Transfer for Mac. But I see the file via
Code:
adb shell ls /sdcard/Music/
and also see it in every file manager I have on my phone.
Why is that and how can I get over it?
