What are your favorite home screen widgets? There are plenty of lists of favorite apps but I prefer the on screen functionality of widgets without having to open the app. Here's what I am using so far:
Pandora
S2 Calendar
gTasks
MixZing
MotoTorch
Weather Forecast
If clicking the widget just opens the program then to me it's not really a widget even if the program creates an entry in the add widgets menu. So what are your favorites?
Currently I supply a user with a URL to click on to download my j2me application. This URL includes their user id as a parameter, a servlet takes this information and dynamically creates a jad file that includes this user id , thus making the user id available to the j2me app.
However, I am now using j2me polish to compile my program and thus have the compiled .apk for this same program. However, I cannot work out how to make this information accessible to the the compiled program as there is no jad / jar mechanism. The information is only available at the time of download.
Any suggestions gratefully received! (is this even possible in an android application?)
What are your favorite or most useful Widgets? Weather? Clocks? Utility?

And in those 3 months, there have been probably thousands more new apps out there for our phone. So, what are the favorites? And what are must-haves? This goes for games as well. Are there games that are still getting constant play on your phone? In my opinion, Handcent and Shapewriter seem to be my favorite and necessary ones. As for games, I keep playing Cestos.

I know there have been threads like this in the past, but most of them were from LONG before we got our phones. Since things seem to change frequently I figured I would pick everyone's brains and see what they like. So, what are your absolute favorite apps and widgets .those you can't live without.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am looking for an awesome music widget the will fill an entire homescreen and display album art. Something that does visualizations would be VERY cool. I've seen most of the standard ones and nothing quite does it for me. Saw one on a blog the other day that had a turntable on the bottom and album art on top - was perfect but was an idiot and didn't bookmark it now I can't find it.

Personally, I still prefer Android OS over iPhone OS because of open development and customizeability (sp?). Even though some people say the iPhone UI is super-smooth, I honestly don't see much of a difference between my phone's resposiveness and my friend's iPhone (but, maybe that's just my Droid). And looking at page after page after page of icons is just super lame to me. And the ONE advantage that iPhone has over Android (apps and games) won't be an advantage for long because:
A) Android is RAPIDLY catching up to iPhone in terms of sheer number of apps.
B) Android has more free apps (by far) than any other mobile OS (something like 58% I believe)
C) Android allows apps from "unknown sources", which is huge in my opinion.
With all of that in mind, I can't think of anything major that the iPhone has over Android. Granted, the iPhone is an awesome device and was a very innovative product but it's definitely not for me. Some would argue that the iPhone is better because it has iTunes and iPod integrated seamlessly but is that really a big deal? Just as long as Android is MP3 capable and has awesome 3rd party apps like "3" or bTunes (I think that's the name of it), who cares about having a fully integrated iPod?

For example, lets say I get to talking to someone e at the airport. We get to talking and find he is big into ATV's. He's looking for a riding partner so he tells me to give him a call the next time I go. I store his name as Bob and in the notes I put ATV. later I want to look him up but only remember the ATV part. As far as I can tell the search doesn't include the notes. Is there a way to do that.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI hardly ever use facebook, and almost never from my computer. However, I do know you can tag a friend in a post using "@" in front of their name. I did this from the Droid and it just started the post with the text @My Friend content content content... It didn't actually tag him.
Anyone know if this just doesn't work from the Droid or what?
I just got back from a weekend in Julian and I was very happy with the quality of the pictures. Best "point and shoot" I have ever owned (not trying to compare it to a "real" camera). Is there a gallery here to post pictures? Or should we start a thread with links to Flickr or Picasa, et al, with Droid-taken pics?
In the meantime, here is a link to a pic I took this weekend:
