Motorola Droid :: OC Kernel Fastest / Most Stable?
Feb 22, 2010
there are so many different OC kernels out there I figure it would be good to have a poll to see which is everyone's favorite, not roms but actual OC kernels. Also when I mean fastest I dont mean highest ghz but fastest at the same clock speed

I have a rooted Droid Incredible, running stock 2.2 and Hydra's 1.15 ghz kernel. I found a ROM called "Light Speed," and I'm wondering if I should try it out. Here's the link: [ROM] Light Speed - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum I'm thinking of the sense version. Do you think it will work? Also, it says it features KingxKernel #6. Is this a stable kernel? How many ghz will it go to? Any other tips before I flash? (Ex. wipe, backup)

Does anybody know if the new desktop kernel patch written by Mike Galbraith can be applied or modified to be used in the android kernel?

I haven't messed around with android kernels yet, but I have applied it to my current Ubuntu 10.10 system and you can see the difference. Its like night & day!

I have been reading a lot of positive things regarding Pete's Bugless Beast and I really want to flash this rom. I have read a lot of different opnions in many threads but I wanted to get more of a complete picture and ask this in a seperate thread.Which of Pete's roms do you feel is the most stable? I know different builds have different perks but in your experience, which BB runs the most stable? (Least issues and FCs).

I've been running smoked glass 6.01 for about a week now and before that SG 5.01 for about a month. Other than bugless beast, I haven't tried any ROMs out. I'm quite pleased with SG, it seems stable and speedy. I'm kind of wanting to try out something new just for giggles.

I have run a bunch of Froyo roms already and nearly all of them have had significant bugs. Is there any suggestions for a froyo rom that is the most reliable and stable at this point, or am I just being unpatient? I'm running ROM Manager, any suggestions from there? Or is elsewhere better.

From reading various posts, I feel like I'm one of the few that's not. I'm still flashing ROMs manually with SPRecovery update.zips and nandroid backups but I'm seriously thinking about using Koush's ROM manager. What are the advantages/disadvantages? Is it stable?

Just tried to oc to 1.3 ghz, tons of random reboots so i went down to 1.1 ghz, with the same thing. So I guess I'm stuck at 1ghz for now. Could this be the ROM I am running (smoked glass v4.0) or is 1 ghz just the max for my phone to be stable? How fast are you guys going while staying stable?

Does anyone have a 100%, perfectly stable gallery? Because, oy vey, my gallery has been glitch-tastic since I started flashing Froyo ROMs. Just changing wallpapers is a major pain in the rear. I guess I wont have a stable gallery until the 2.2 source code hits the AOSP.

I can't recommend upgrade your ROMs to 2.2.1, yet, especially for newbies. A number of folks are bricking and are unable to restore as there is no stable sbf (restoration program script) at this time. So, if you do update, understand that you're kinda like jumping without a parachute, at this point. Hopefully, it will change soon. So you fly at your own risk, newbie. As for me? I'm waiting. I have plenty enough stress in my own miserable life to add more! You know me, I've got the new rooter's backs.

Flipping back nd forth between pages and forums etc, gets kind of confusing. I am running Smoked Glass 5.0, would like to try the 2.1 based ROM..
Can any one direct me to a link to find the download of the stable Simply Stunning, I believe it was the 1.2 not 1.25?
A link and if there are instructions great, if not well I will keep reading.
I have rooted by the way with DroidMod.

I was trying to employ a tip I found on here which stated I could type my question in the "new thread" box and a quick search would be done to see if my question had already been answered. Must not be doing it right. As long as I have a thread made, I guess I will ask: Is there a fast way to scroll besides swiping your finger on the page? It takes a long time to get from the bottom to the top of one of these threads on my phone if I swipe it. Seems like there might be a way but I haven't run across it.

What do you think is the best ROM at the moment and why? To qualify as one of the best it must be stable not a stable build but stable that theres not a crazy amount of force close or reboots and no other significant problems. Also post what kernel you are using with it.

1) What is the difference between kernel and a ROM? How do I know what kernel I am on? I know I am running the SholesMod ROM, but I am considering changing to another ROM. I seem to have FC's quite often and am trying to fix that. If I want to change a ROM will I need to change the kernel to make sure they are compatible?
2) I have SP Recovery installed. Is this part of the kernel? Is this installed in a separate place from the kernel/ROM? I'd like to feel assured that if I am installing a new kernel/ROM and something goes wrong, I don't have to worry about my SP Recovery being affected. But should I?...............
3) Nandroid backup... does this include everything on the device? Kernel, ROM, AND Recovery Mode?
I'm a newbie to hacking the Droid, but back in my PSP days, I know that the Recovery mode was stored on the same drive as the system files, and if you make a misstep when flashing a new firmware, you could lose recovery access. I'm just wondering where the recovery is located in the phones file system, and if I should really be concerned when flashing ROMs/kernels. Also, is there any way I could redirect it to load recovery from the memory stick, if the default recovery cannot load, just as a failsafe? Or if I lose recovery, could I somehow flash a new recovery via USB?

So I finally rooted my droid, installed BB 0.4 and from what I understand it comes with an 800 MHz kernel. Fair enough but lets say I want 1 GHz. I'm already noticing that I get slightly less battery life with this than with stock 2.1, so would the "low voltage" or "ultra low voltage" Chevy kernels provide me with more battery life? I know I should probably get SetCPU, but I don't want to constantly have to manage clock speeds manually and I don't know what profiles to set / what's safe and what's not safe and whatnot. If I DON'T install SetCPU, will the phone take care of it by itself and slow the clock down when it's not doing intense tasks and so forth? Is SetCPU really necessary with a kernel or is it just for extra control for super power users?
