Motorola Droid :: Now You Can Live Without Fear Of Bricking
Feb 21, 2010
*I just want everyone to know that I didn't write this guide, just the first paragraph. You can thank ikithme for the guide and the links to all the files.*Now that a .sbf file has been released for our Droid's we can always recover them using RSD Lite. AllDroid - View topic - Droid 2.0.1 sbf file released! it is pretty easy to use this. Of course if you physically break your phone it won't help, but if you screw anything up software wise you are covered. If you unplug your phone while doing this it will break it beyond repair, Verizon will not be able to fix it. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO USE IT!
EDIT: Here is a guide.
EDIT:New RSD Lite link (4.6)
Requirements
A. VZW_A855_ESD56_QSC6085BP_C_01.3E.01P_SW_UPDATE_03. sbf (.sbf file)
B. http://androidoverdrive.com/downloads/RSDLite4.6.7z (RSDLite 4.6)
C. http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/Co ... _4.2.0.zip (32-bit Motorola USB Drivers)
or http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/Co ... _4.2.0.zip (64-bit Motorola USB Drivers)
Instructions:
1. Download all of the files above including the 32-bit OR 64-bit Motorola USB Drivers.
2. Install RSDLite AND the 32-bit or 64-bit Motorola USB Drivers (Depends on your system most will need 32-bit some will need 64-bit)
3. Connect your phone to USB and turn it off then turn it back on, while your phone is booting hold up on the DPAD. (Some users have said it is easier to hold the volume down button and camera button instead.)
4. Run RSD Lite 4.6 as Administrator (For all you Vista and 7 folks out there. If you are using XP you may not need to run as Administrator)
5. Click the next to the filename box and browse to where you saved the .sbf file and double click the .sbf file.
6. Hit start and below it should give you completion progress and all of that.
7. Once your phone is done being flashed (It may take a while so don't unplug it) it will reboot and you will be back at stock 2.0.1 no root.
8. Done
Credits:dordodim for the sbf file. ikithme for guide.Motorola for the awesome phone, usb drivers and RSDLite.

I've been on the fence forever with rooting my x. Been lurking your forum for awhile now among others. reading up. Just scared i'll mess my phone up and have to buy another. I'm sure you deal with people like me daily. Anyways, I'm going to wait for the official 2.2 to come out, then worry about rooting. My question is, If I would use androot and koush's backup, and only used trustworthy roms that people post on forums like this, with positive feedback. do i really have to worry about bricking my phone?

I've been thinking about rooting my Droid for a little while, but I would like some clarification on the risks before I begin. I know almost nothing about Linux (but I am a tinkerer), but there seem to be very straightforward instructions on how to do everything I'm interested in. When people say that you could "brick" your phone by deleting/moving/renaming the wrong file, I want to make sure I understand the usage of "brick". My definition of bricking a device was that it was literally only good as a brick. It is BROKEN. For good. Kaput. Like a brick. However, Blackberry users (when I was tinkering with my Blackberry Storm) use the word "brick" to describe a phone that just needs its operating system reloaded. I have no problem reloading the Android ROM if I had to (provided a dump of the Droid ROM exists) but will I have the option?Does "brick" around here mean the phone is 100% broken, or that it needs the Android ROM reloaded?

After the two 2.1 updates on my eris, my signal/service has been horrendous. I'm not able to make calls/send texts in I'd say 40-50% of the time, and I've tried everything people have been saying to do to fix the signal strength problem. So, is bricking my phone a solution to get a refurbished or new phone? I'd rather just stick with 1.5 than have horrible signals all the time, or root it (bc it's undoable). Any input?

Where I am theres no cable and doesn't get ABC, so I have the world cup rocking on Sprint TV. Just hooked it up to a TV via HDMI...and nothing. Sigh. I'd much rather watch us beat the hell out of those limey bastages on TV.

like many people I did the update last night. Everything was working great except phone was eating my batterys every 4 hours or less. I have 5 batterys. So tonight I put in my battery that came with the phone and went to market and my phone shuts off. It was on the charger and the lght that goes from red to green started blinking red and then just stopped. It will not cut on or anything. So I switch batterys and it works till it does it to the second battery. same exact thing. So i switch batterys again. I switched batterys then did a factory reset. The phone is not cutting off on me now but the batterys that it did cut off for are not working still. Should I take it to sprint? anyone else having the same problem?

Can anyone comment on how the live wallpapers work on the D2. I have the D1 and I don't use them because it makes the home screen laggy. Just wondering if the "faster" D2 has that same issue.

I've been searching and can't figure out if the Droid GPS/map function supports a 'live map' view which will display and follow my vehicle's progress realtime, similar to how standalone GPS devices (I have a Garmin Nuvi) will show your vehicle as it travels along roads in realtime.I know this view will come up after you've given the navigation something to find, but I'm hoping this is not required and I can just pull up a live view while driving.Sometimes it's very useful to see cross street names and other details while on the road around town, so hoping this is possible.

Engadget seems to say the the evo might be getting froyo as early as tomorrow (7/30) If it does maybe the rumors of the X getting soon are too far fetched especially if Verizon had any say about it.EVO 4G's Android 2.2 update starts trickling out tomorrow, loads of new features and fixes in store? -- Engadget

I have a paid Windows Live account through school with an address ending in '.edu' I am struggling to find a way to set it up in the email function (obviously not the gmail function) on the phone. I really would not like to have to take the detour of forwarding my school email to my gmail account.

I have been using the stock live wallpapers on my droid which I really like, I have also seen that they don't use a lot of battery power. Is there any good live wallpapers in the market that don't use a lot of power? I downloaded "shake them all" live wallpaper from the market but it runs like 50% battery usage, where the stock ones use like 5-12%.

My 2.1 update got pushed through this morning and I immediately set a Live Wallpaper on my desktop. I have found that the wallpeprs don't "stick" when I turn the screen off and then turn it back on, it defaults back to the wallpaper I had set prior to changing it to the Live Wallpaper, or the screen just has a black background. At first I thought it maybe Live Wallpaper was conflicting with my Locale app, so I disabled it, but it's still doing it after.

I think once Flash is available for Android phones...this will be a moot point, but.. Are there any sites out there that you may know of that streams live TV (news etc) without needing Flash? I've come across quite a few apps in the Marketplace that streams "pre-recorded" shows, and some are ok, but I'm looking for something that you can actually watch that isn't 2-3 days old. I know Orb allows you to stream live TV, but that requires you to setup a "server" with a TV Tuner card in your PC..provided that you have a spare.
