Motorola Droid :: Longer Boot Time Since Update
Apr 4, 2010
No major issues, but my startup screen does seem to take a LOT longer before the phone actually loads, and once it does none of my buttons/widgets appear for another 5-10 seconds. Additionally, once in a while when exiting a program none of the buttons are on the home screen for 3-5 seconds, and sometimes a Force Close error pertaining to the home activity will pop up ... anyone else experience anything similar, or even just notice a longer boot time?

I loaded this on my phone and am now have a strange problem. I can no longer enter recovery mode. The rom works great for me, apps that need root still work (like setcpu and root explorer).

I have just updated to version 2.1 and noticed my push Gmail wasnt working. I then went into the Google Mail application and can see its not showing any emails in the inbox and its not downloading any mail in "All items" either. Its only showing emails prior to the update. If I hit refresh it spins for a few moments and I see the data arrows indicate transfer but it doesnt refresh the inbox.

I checked to see if I have the cell standby 50% bug and I do. My up time is 11:34:50, my awake time is 3:47:48, but if I look at the cell standby it says time on 14:42:16. How can the cell standby thing be a longer time than my phone has been on? I did the leak 2 days ago, so it's not showing that time or anything.

Would it be possible to "sync" my apps so that they all connect to the internet at the same time to update, as opposed to each doing them at different times? For instance, my k-9 mail checks for email every hour, but my News and Weather Widget checks every 30 minutes (I think), and my Beautiful Widgets Home Widget checks for weather every 2 hours. I fear that even if I set them all to 1 hour, they'd all be checking at one hour past the time I told them to check, which would still be different times. Is there any way to just sync all of my apps that automatically connect to the internet?

at the moment I am thinking about a new app and need some information to decide whether to develop on Android or an alternative OS. I am particularly interested in "time to first screen", "boot-up time", "time to first Audio" and "app-start" (can be any from the android market or even one of the pre-installed ones) time? Does anyone know a source or perhaps measured those numbers?

I tried installing Tranquility and must have screwed something up because now my phone won't boot past the Motorola Logo. It's been sitting here like this for about 15min and I can't even boot into recovery by holding the power and home buttons. I don't know what else to do now. Idk if my phone is bricked but even if it is don't I need the SBF file to unbrick it and I can't find that file any where. I did a nand backup or whatever before doing any of this so hopefully that can help me. What should I do now?

Is there a way to make the Toast last for longer time? I have tried this code
Toast t = new Toast(this); View v = View.inflate(this, R.toast_layout, null); t.setView(v); t.setDuration(Toast.LENGTH_LONG); t.show(); t.show(); t.show();
By calling show() method more than once, I hoped this would give a similar effect to lasting for longer time with some flickering, but I didn't see any difference. Is there some limit to the number of times that show() method can be called on the same Toast? e.g. just once per toast instance and further calling has no effect?

I went to reboot my Droid because it was lagging a little and when it came back on it go stuck at the Cyanogen boot screen. I pulled the battery, put it back in and held the X to boot in recovery and my recovery won't come up either. It just skips right to the Motorola M and if it doesn't get stuck there it goes back to the Cyanogen screen.
I haven't made any changes to the phone at all so I am completely puzzled on why this is happening. I obviously can't take it back to Verizon since its rooted so if there is a way to fix this I really want to because I love my phone and my wife will kill me if it is screwed up.

1) how I can lengthen the time that my Hero rings for? It's easy for me to leave the phone at one end of the house, and by the time I get to it it's already gone to voicemail. Argrgh. Even if I could add another ten seconds it would help a lot. Any idea how I do this?
2) I haven't worked out how to quickly lock the screen. So, for instance, if I want to chuck the phone in my pocket -- at the moment I'm waiting for the screen to time out, which is bonkers.

MotoDroid 2.2. Since 2.2, the auto-rotate screen goes haywire from time to time. I normally use the vertical format, easier to type, but when it switches, not much screen left, and I have to go back and back to start over again.

how can i get my battery to last longer? It stinks that I paid $300 for a phone with a battery that won't last very long if running applications.I hear all of these commercials about droid being able to walk, talk and chew gum at the same time but they fail to tell you that less than 2 hours later the phone dies.Back to the question,is there a way to make it last longer? I tried screen brightness but then i can't read the phone outside.

Is this a known issue with bugless beast 1.2 that I just have to deal with? I love having my phone rooted but id rather have a fully functioning phone that a rooted phone.

I've had the DroidX a couple of weeks. This morning it stopped ringing on incoming phone calls. It does vibrate. Last time it rang is when I was playing with settings to have it stop ringing when I place if face down. I've undone that facedown setting. Ringer is ON. I've cycled it on/vibrate/off and back ON. Silent Mode is OFF Phone Vibrate is OFF Audible touch tones is ON and I hear tones on phone keypad Volume is Audible.I can select and listen to my ringer tune.

I just purchased this droid about a week ago and everything had been working fine. I synced with doubletwist, I added pictures to it and it charged through the computer. Until last night when I plugged the USB into my computer and a window popped up saying it didn't recognize the USb device, this device has malfunctioned yada yada yada. Motorola doesn't know why, verizon doesn't know why, I can't claim it under warranty( i bought from a friend) and insurance doesn't cover it b/c its a "malfunction".

Well, like others have mentioned in this forum, my Droid has started to get noticeably better battery life. I'm definitely lasting the entire day now, and I think I could go longer if I didn't work in a building with spotty reception at best (constantly switching back and forth from 1X to 3G with 1 bar). Conceivably, I'm not installing as many applications on the phone as I did in the first 1-2 weeks of ownership (I'm on week 2.5) so I'm not hitting the battery as much. But, what I'm really wondering about is if you guys think that a background backup process is running during the first few days (and after new app installations) that eats up battery power. Once the Droid reaches a 'steady' state, the backup process isn't running anymore and the Droid can last longer on a single charge. Does this sound reasonable or am I reaching...or just plain wrong. In which case, why is the battery lasting longer into the day. From my recollection, LiIon batteries don't have a memory affect so cycling them in is unnecessary.

Anyone know why the free Locale beta isn't showing up in the market anymore for me?
Has it been pulled? I don't want to pay $10 for something that was free a couple of weeks ago, especially when it did everything I needed it to.
Any idea if its available anywhere else but the Martket ?
As I had to replace the phone (bad headphone jack) i seem to have lost all the old downloads i had previously. None of them auto restored.
