Nov 7, 2009
Has anyone found a FlashLight App that uses the dual LED Camera Flash as a light source? I have this on my BlackBerry Storm and it works Awesome. Have not had any luck finding one like it for the DROID?

There is an app in the market which is written just for the Moment that uses the camera flash as a flashlight -- essentially it turns on the camera flash. The application says not to use the flash "too long" or damage may occur, but the "too long" time period is not defined. First, will having the flash on for an period of time damage it? Second, if so, any idea what maximum period of time would be "safe?"

I have had my droid x since aug 16th. Never have paid attention to it until today when a friend was playing with camera but I noticed that both leds on the flash doesn't come on during picture taking. Also noticed this on camcorder setting also. Its always the top led that doesn't light up. Now I am assuming this isn't normal and something is wrong. Is this a hardware or setting issue or is my flash messed up and need to be fixed. If so is it still under warranty since I have only had it since august?

First, is there a good reason the captivate does not have a camera flash (aside from the devs thinking the night mode worked 'well enough')?
If not: I strongly suggest we get a huge number of people to say they would be interested in buying a flashlight/camera flash add-on for the phone were someone to develop one. After we get a big enough number, we'll kindly forward it to several companies. I took my phone out last night for halloween, and was quite disappointed with the night quality. I'm sure something like this would be profitable at ~$6, but I would pay $10-15 to cover research costs/etc.

A few weeks ago, my camera flash/flashlight stopped working. I didn't know the cause. Occassionally, I noticed the flash would come on very dull before going out again. Then it stopped working completely. Although I was unable to find a thread suggesting that anyone else was having this problem, I figured that my bulbs must have died. I kept meaning to go get it checked out at a Sprint store, but I just wasn't making time to go. Last week, one of the corners on my PhantomSkinz cover got beat up a little bit. I have another set here ready to go (matte instead of the clear), and I was going to put the new skin on, but I decided I should go to the Sprint store to have my flash looked at first just in case they were going to replace my device. So I went this morning.
I waited for about two hours while a tech worked on my phone. I kept being reassured that it would be done soon, so I kept waiting around. When the CS rep brought me my phone, she said that they had been unable to fix the flash. They had replaced the bulbs without success, so they replaced the entire camera and still had no success. Then they did a wipe of my phone, and still the flash wouldn't work. Replacement device should be here tomorrow..............

Both flash was set on auto (yes even the second one) in low-medium lighting. This happened on my first Droid after a week or so of owning it so I returned it. Tried a hard reset and restarting the phone, didn't help. I also cleaned the lens and made sure my fingers were not in the way. The flash does go off each time.

My app is using the camera on the phone. For phones w/ 2.0+ I have been able to activate the Flash. When I test on a phone with 1.5 OS on it the app crashes. I get: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException and the Cause is java.lang.VerifyError: fishers.Nav.TakePicture$1
I assume because you have to access the flash differently in apps below 2.0? Can anyone give me some advice or links to examples showing how I could make it work over the whole range of Operating System version or is that just not at all do-able?

Being relatively new to my Droid, I'm still finding fun stuff. Recently, I picked up the shell/holster combo and really like it. However, while I am at work, I have my phone on vibrate (thanks Timeriffic) and can't tell who is texting/emailing me like I used to (different colors for the LED, thanks Handcent). What I was wondering is: is it possible to write an app that uses the camera flash like a vibrate function.
The ability to customize the number of flashes and duration would be cool, as would the ability to have it only flash when the phone is on vibrate or silent. Preferably, without having to root the phone. If its not possible due to hardware or software lockouts oh well.

Can anyone recommend a good flashlight app that uses the camera flash LEDs that works with the Incredible?I miss that functionality. Had it with my Nokia 5800.I've searched here without much success. Most of the apps I've seen discussed are for other Android phone models.

I think everyone who upgraded should test this out right away. I was taking pictures last night with my flash, and I noticed that even though the LED comes on, it turns off again the instant before the shutter closes. This problem is reproducible 100% of the time, and happens whether the picture is taken with the shutter button or the new touch button. This has basically rendered the flash useless.

Having only recently bought a HTC Desire, I am now bugged with a flashlight issue. The led flashlight on my phone does not seem to work at all (neither in camera mode or the new flashlight app in android 2.2). The flash definitely worked when I originally got the phone but now does nothing.

Is there a way to turn off the flash and/or the shutter sound of the camera when taking a picture?
Flash Mode says auto under it, but the box is grayed out and I cannot select it to change it.
This is the same for the auto focus feature, I am unable to select that as well.

I've got a rooted Android device (Motorola Photon Q running stock ICS 4.0.4) which happened to have rear camera broken - specifically - the camera connector on motherboard . Before, all the apps I tried were able to switch on the flashlight to use as a torch. Since the camera went broke, none of them work. When opening stock Camera application, it shows front facing camera view. The switch is grayed out. It used to show an error like "failed to initialize" about back camera before showing front camera view, but it does not anymore, after trying to fix the connector I've written my own application to at least debug it and find out where the problem lays, and tried a few ways to light the flash, but no luck.
The question is:
Any way to bypass the checking of back camera (starting it) and going directly to switching on the flashlight? Or is there any general or device-specific way to enable flashlight without camera working (but plugged in, just a few pins of total 32 are lost)? I can provide any specific logs, files or parts of the ROM
I will be getting another motherboard in a few months probably, but before then, I want to challenge this. As of ideas, I was searching and thinking of either creating sth like DroidLED for my device (however I dont know if such approach is still valid under ICS) or somehow switching hardware addresses of back and front camera, so the front one would act like a back one. Both hard or impossible.

I'm liking the quality of the camera but the shutter lag is way slower than on my old env2 and on the inc. Anyone know of any other camera apps that are quicker with the AF and shutter? Any idea if 2.2 fixes this?

Would there ever be a camera that could use front and back cameras at the same time? Or app? Do it have to be a powerful phone maybe like note 2 ect? Do you think such feature can be run on a low end phone maybe like HTC evo 4g?
I know gs4 can do this but what about other non Samsung phones?

I was scrolling through the Settings for my Droid, and I noticed that under Manage Applications (after changing the filter options to ALL) that Camera was listed twice. Same icon and version (6) but different data size (124 KB and 192KB). Is this normal? I was thinking it might just be for video and photos to separate the two, but I was hoping to get experts opinions.

Anytime I try to access my camera utility, through pressing the camera button, choosing the camera icon, or choosing the camcorder icon, the auto focus clicks like normal but the program does not open. The screen just goes black for a second and opens once more on the main screen. When I take the SD card out it works fine, but otherwise nothing will work. I have tried a factory reset, uninstalling several programs, and power cycling over and over again.

Any of you see a lot of banding on the camera app in medium to low lighting. The flash usually prevents banding from appearing in pictures but when recording there is huge amounts of banding. is this normal?

The first one the flashlight led stopped working in any app. It was returned. Now its replacement has another issue with the camera. I'm getting blocky colourful pixelation when the phone is on a gprs connection and I use the camera. At least that didn't happen on the first one. I'm getting seriously fed up with HTC. Will I get one that works properly? Might swap it for Samsung galaxy, but I know I'd miss sense. S there a fix for the camera bug? Updated software? It takes a perfect picture. It just looks wrong before you click the shutter.

Is there a particular flag that we can use to prevent apps showing up in marketplace which require the phone to have a camera flash /LED? Typical apps are ones which make the phone act like a torchlight in dark. I have seen a tag which prevents apps requiring auto focus in a camera from appearing in the marketplace. Just looking to find out if there is something similar for camera flash.

Possibly a simple answer to this question -- can the USB charger that ships with the Droid X be used with 220 volts in addition to 110 volts? I am planning to take my Droid X to India and need to figure out if I should plug the charger into a 110/220V travel converter, or if the USB charger is already dual voltage and I'll only need a plug point adapter. The voltage specified on the charger has 240V as the upper range, which leads me to think it should work with 220V.

Ive read a few comments around different forums stating the droid x has ipddr2 running in dual channel but can't find any concrete evidence of it. Ive also read posts from people saying that the fascinate does not run in dual channel but is still ipddr2. What exactly does this mean and is there any truth to it? I was thinking if its similar to how pc memory works it could be why the x is getting higher benchmarks or is this all nonsense?
