Samsung Captivate :: USB Flashlight / Camera Flash Add-On
Oct 31, 2010First, is there a good reason the captivate does not have a camera flash (aside from the devs thinking the night mode worked 'well enough')?
If not: I strongly suggest we get a huge number of people to say they would be interested in buying a flashlight/camera flash add-on for the phone were someone to develop one. After we get a big enough number, we'll kindly forward it to several companies. I took my phone out last night for halloween, and was quite disappointed with the night quality. I'm sure something like this would be profitable at ~$6, but I would pay $10-15 to cover research costs/etc.

Jan 24, 2010There is an app in the market which is written just for the Moment that uses the camera flash as a flashlight -- essentially it turns on the camera flash. The application says not to use the flash "too long" or damage may occur, but the "too long" time period is not defined. First, will having the flash on for an period of time damage it? Second, if so, any idea what maximum period of time would be "safe?"

Nov 29, 2010A few weeks ago, my camera flash/flashlight stopped working. I didn't know the cause. Occassionally, I noticed the flash would come on very dull before going out again. Then it stopped working completely. Although I was unable to find a thread suggesting that anyone else was having this problem, I figured that my bulbs must have died. I kept meaning to go get it checked out at a Sprint store, but I just wasn't making time to go. Last week, one of the corners on my PhantomSkinz cover got beat up a little bit. I have another set here ready to go (matte instead of the clear), and I was going to put the new skin on, but I decided I should go to the Sprint store to have my flash looked at first just in case they were going to replace my device. So I went this morning.
I waited for about two hours while a tech worked on my phone. I kept being reassured that it would be done soon, so I kept waiting around. When the CS rep brought me my phone, she said that they had been unable to fix the flash. They had replaced the bulbs without success, so they replaced the entire camera and still had no success. Then they did a wipe of my phone, and still the flash wouldn't work. Replacement device should be here tomorrow..............

Dec 1, 2010My wife and I just got a pair of Fascinates. While mine is working fine, her's is acting up. When taking a picture using the flash, the flash turns blue just as the camera snaps the shot. Does anyone know what causes this?

Nov 14, 2010For everyone who has questions regarding the quality of the Fascinate's camera, I propose this thread be sticky'd so that everyone has one thread to view and/or admire the quality of the shots from various forum members. These shots have to be unprocessed though! Be honest.I'm an avid photographer who loves his Fascinate and all the tricks it can do. I thought of something on the drive home last night, and this is my first contribution.The quality is pretty damn good, not too much noise considering the picture was taken in the dark. I loved how the picture came out. I'll try getting a broader sweep of the needle next time, but that involves revving the car.For those of you who want similar shots, place the camera into night shot mode. This involves a very very steady hand, or a nice stable surface. From a few trial shots, the camera's shutter speed in night shot mode is still pretty fast from what I saw. If you want similar effects like the photo below, I suggest taking the picture right before the action you want happens. Granted, that is no easy task sometimes.
This picture is another one of my favorite shots. The camera happened to set the shutter speed perfectly for a rolling shot. This was taken behind my window, so the quality isn't as good as could be. I'm extremely happy with the shot though.Oh and as a disclaimer, both pictures have been compressed due to Facebook's uploader The actual file looks much nicer IMHO of course

Mar 10, 2013I've got a rooted Android device (Motorola Photon Q running stock ICS 4.0.4) which happened to have rear camera broken - specifically - the camera connector on motherboard . Before, all the apps I tried were able to switch on the flashlight to use as a torch. Since the camera went broke, none of them work. When opening stock Camera application, it shows front facing camera view. The switch is grayed out. It used to show an error like "failed to initialize" about back camera before showing front camera view, but it does not anymore, after trying to fix the connector I've written my own application to at least debug it and find out where the problem lays, and tried a few ways to light the flash, but no luck.
The question is:
Any way to bypass the checking of back camera (starting it) and going directly to switching on the flashlight? Or is there any general or device-specific way to enable flashlight without camera working (but plugged in, just a few pins of total 32 are lost)? I can provide any specific logs, files or parts of the ROM
I will be getting another motherboard in a few months probably, but before then, I want to challenge this. As of ideas, I was searching and thinking of either creating sth like DroidLED for my device (however I dont know if such approach is still valid under ICS) or somehow switching hardware addresses of back and front camera, so the front one would act like a back one. Both hard or impossible.

Sep 10, 2010I just rooted my phone. I'm not new to rooting either. And when I was pulling up a file, I got this screen. Another interesting thing, is that we have a file called FlashSVGPlayer.apk embedded into the phone, and FlashPlugin.apk
Update:
FlashPlugin.apk is Pineone Flashlite Plugin.
but FlashSVGPlayer.apk is Adobe Flash Player.

Sep 23, 2010just went in to the verizon store to see why my girlfriends fascinate(i have an incredible ) wouldn't update. here's the conversation:
guy: it was pushed out to the first 1000, but things went wrong so they pulled it back(talking about the update i500.DI01)
us: ok so we shouldn't be worrying?
guy: no. but you'll get it sometime next week. then you'll get one the week after(didn't say what it would include) and then there will be one in november that will activate the front facing camera.
us: wait, what?
He showed us the 3 little dots on the top of the phone(sensors and i guess a camera).
He said that he talked to a samsung rep yesterday in the store and this is what he told him. the guy actually has a samsung fascinate and showed us so i'm going to believe him.
If you look closely at the 3 dots, the one on the left is alone. the one(s) on the right kinda have two different colors(light sensor and proximity sensor) so i still am going to believe him.
Samsung Fascinate :: Camera Not Autofocus Device?
Oct 16, 2010My iphone 4 has autofocus, whenever I point the camera at something it will focus on the object. When I do the same with the fascinate it will not do anything until I tap the screen and then it will focus. Am I missing some setting or is this camera not a true autofocus device?

I highly doubt it is possible to get the actual camera widget, but is there something similar to it on the marketplace? I loved how it played slideshows and you could enter into your gallery or launch the camera from the widget.
Also, how do I get news feeds on my Fascinate? I don't see a News Feed widget option like I did on my Droid X.

Oct 5, 2010Samsung Fascinate USB cable issue and Adobe flash player.I've got Verizon Samsung Fascinate a few days ago. I really like to phone but there are some things I can't figure out and their tech service wasn't able to answer my questions.First of all I couldn't figure out how to download my pictures from phone to my PC by using USB cable connection. I totally don't understand how USB works with it at all.Second thing, I was trying to watch some of my TV shows but I wasn't able to do so because requests to have adobe flash player. But couldn't manage to download. Is there another program I can use?If anyone has answers for me that would be great.
