Motorola Droid :: Disable Accelerometer Home Screen
Mar 5, 2010
It seems no matter what I put my settings to, the home screen always has to change orientation when I rotate my phone sideways. This is quite an annoyance. I just want the home screen to be in portrait at all times (unless I open my keyboard). I'm currently on Smoked Glas 5.0.1.

When using a home replacment like Helix, Home++, etc. does the android home still run in the background and reduce performance? I had a lot of stuff on my stock home but just switched to Helix so how do i stop/disable stock home if it is running?

Unfortunately it is an Orange branded phone and has all of their additional guff installed on the phone. I would like to run the desire without the sense UI and instead just run the plain android UI for a while, my problem is that when I disable Sense I am just left with the Orange home screen selector! Does anyone know how I turn that off and run the basic android? or am I stuck with these skins?

Is there a simple setting that will automatically disable my screen lock when I'm at home or at work? If not a setting, is there an app you recommend?
Long version: I'm fairly new to "devices". I got my first, a wifi-only Samsung tablet about 6 months ago and use it sporadically, mostly when traveling, but also it's become my semi-permanent music player at home. I got my first smart phone, a MotoX about 2 weeks ago. Love the MotoX and feel it's exceptionally well designed, easy to configure, and useful, but I have nothing to compare it to other than my wife's IPhone 5.
I have done a web search for this information. I have also searched and scanned around these forums, but didn't find anything I felt comfortable with in terms of how fussy or current the set up steps are or how current the app recommendations are. The two apps I've come across are, IIRC, called "Delayed Lock (trial or paid)" and "Unlock with WiFi".
My question is - today, mid-October 2013 - how do you recommend disabling screen lock while at certain locations. I imagine I'll be using it strictly at work or at home, both of which have wifi I connect to automatically. I might want to disable screen lock while driving, but so far have found my MotoX's Assist driving mode to work very well. I might get a Bluetooth device and at that point would probably want to disable the screen lock while that bluetooth device was connected.

How do you do it? IMHO it's one big pain in the xxx! Just makes one more thing to do to bring it up from sleeping.Guess I will see what happens with accidental screen touches. From what I see you'd have to hit the on/off button(unlikely) or the home page button(more likely) to get it to come out of resting. Screen touches do not wake it.

I love Helix Launcher 2 with its 3d app scrolling and 4 shortcuts, but is their a home like that with less lag? Because my phone lags nonstop now. Also on a side note. Is their a Ultimatedroid theme for Cyanogen? I <3 Ultimatedroid's theme and thats the only reason I use it over Cyanogen.

I have seen there are a few home screen replacement apps out there, Pandahome, GDE and Open Home....
Which one do people like the best? I am looking for one that will pretty much just give me the extra home screens, but will maintain the look and feel of the basic home screen. Any thoughts?

I don't know if this is like a default option but i've found thet my X's entire OS goes into landscape mode, including app tray, browser, apps, everything. I haven't downloaded any apps that do this and while its in this mode it wont rotate back to portrait. The only way I could change it back is by rebooting. I haven't found a way to voluntarily recreate this, it just happens, maybe by a certain combination of keys, but I'd like to know how to recreate this. I'm sure its probably really obvious so forgive me for my obliviousness

Unless I have the keyboard slid open, the home screen doesn't rotate.Apps do, but the homes screen doesn't. I have the auto-rotate open selected in settings. Also, when in my car dock, everything shows in landscape except when I am in a call. The call still shows up in the portrait. It is kind of annoying and lame

The other day I took a trip, put my X in the car dock, and set Nav to my destination. About an hour into my trip, Nav would intermittently close, and would return to the home screen. However, the app wasn't always completely FC'd, but running in the background, and could be returned to by dragging down the Notification bar and reselecting it. This continued for the last 2 hours of my trip and was extremely annoying. Has anyone else experienced this?

Im on the Rom manager 2.1. It's been working for days now and I backup my roms pretty much every day. Today I installed a new app Vlingo and my apps disappeared off my home screen. I restored from 2 days ago, but I'm getting the same thing. The apps load at first, but within 5 minutes, they go away. Then, if I apply some apps on the now empty screens, they will be on top of the old ones when I reboot.

Surprisingly I can't find any other threads about this. Does everyone here experience some sort of lag or stuttering when flipping through homescreens? If so, have any of you figured out a way to make it smoother? It also happens with the slideout trays on the homescreen.

I downloaded a couple of widgets one having to do with battery, wifi, bluetooth, and volume I believe... Well none of them worked and I'm pretty sure I uninstalled all of them. However on the most right side of the home screen it still says Problem Loading Widget.. Doesn't seem to be causing a problem but it is just really annoying.

I purchased a universal car dock form my moto droid and it fits well. I had to because the car dock from Motorola would not fit with the phone case on it. I usually have the map view while driving, but the screen turns-off. Is there a way or app to not turn-off the screen while using the car-home app.

So when I have my Droid docked in Car Home mode, the screen will stay on when in Navigation, but will timeout as it normally does when I'm just in Maps (ie: if I just want to follow my movement without turn-by-turn directions) or when I'm on a call. For the life of me I can't find screen timeout options specific to Car Home.
