Motorola Droid :: Anybody Have 2 Browsers On Their Phone?

Jul 17, 2010

I have the pre installed browser and a week ago installed Skyfire the app that will play SOME flash content. Whenever I go on certain websites like Facebook, it will ask me which browser to use. So I select one, then the box comes up every couple seconds asking me to choose which browser to choose after I already selected one of them! This is so frustrating some times! I don't want to make skyfire my default since its still in Beta stages.

Motorola Droid :: Froyo 2.2 Trashed Browsers

Aug 16, 2010

I got the OTA 2.2 update pushed to my first generation Verizon Droid this morning. Nice new homescreens, love the apps menu, USB tethering option even showed up in my settings menu as selectable. BUT, nether my Dolphin Browser HD or the stock browser can connect to the Internet via 3g anymore (they work on WiFi though). It worked fine before the update. After TWO hours on the phone with Verizon (one Customer Service guy and two Tech support guys, one of those a "Droid support" person), their solution: Factory Reset to 2.1 and don't update it if it asks again. All other 3g Internet based services work fine: SMS, Facebook, Marketplace, News apps, etc. I mean COME ON Verizon! "The glitch is with Froyo and our mobile network but there's really nothing we can do". "The update is pushed by Motorola" "There is a second OTA update supposed to be coming in early September" Folks, is this 2.2 update really this faulty? Or is this maybe just my particular phone? I was also having an issue with my GPS no longer working for several weeks before the update. They couldn't figure anything out for that so they agreed to send me a new phone, which they said will have 2.1 on it. Since I'm traveling next week, I am reluctant to accept another OTA update. Any opinions about whether I should?.......

Motorola Droid :: Isn't Connecting To Any Websites Or Anything Else In Any Of The Browsers

Mar 6, 2010

You are all likely going to laugh at this, and I admit, you have every right too. For the first time today I am trying to enable the wifi on my droid when I am at home and have been unable to get it to work.

I turned it on, connected it to my home Wifi, used the correct password, and it says it is connected, and has been assigned an IP addressed. However, it isn't connecting to any websites or anything else in any of the browsers.

I have tried both the native and dolphin.

The main browsers I've been able to identify are the following: If there are any others worth mentioning, please add them to the list. I would love to hear your input regarding the pros and cons of each one.

Motorola Droid :: Experimenting With Alternate Browsers (XScope 2.5)

Dec 16, 2009

So I'd been using the default for the first few weeks I had the phone. Then I moved to Dolphin. Dolphin has been a little spotty lately, so I did a quick search to see what, if any, others are out there. That brings me to xScope 2.5. Right now, it doesn't have many features. You can't open something in a new tab or window, for instance. There's no long-press functionality for links and pages yet. But it's lightweight, fast, and has a flawless pinch-to-zoom. For now, I'll be foregoing features for the sake of having this browser work smoothly and quickly. Anyone else tried it? I ponied up the $3 for the full version.

Android : No Java / Javascript On Droid Browsers / How To Get?

Jan 31, 2010

I've been following a discussion on the apparent lack of JavaScript and Java on Android browsers. One of my hot button applications requires either JavaScript or at least the ability to run a .jar file in order to save data. No one in the other discussion has been able to find a Android browser capable of supporting this application (TiddlyWiki)..

I'm sure if I was able to settle one having the same layout on a daily basis I wouldn't be charging my phone 2 times a day.

Every time I try to connect into FB through either the stock browser or Skyfire I get a "Cookies Required" error msg and it won't let me log in. Cookies are enabled on both browsers but I still can't get in. What gives?

Nexus :: None Of Using Browsers Working

May 25, 2010

I am using CyanogenMod 5.0.6 on my Nexus One. Until recently everything was fine but now, none of the browsers on my device are working on either Wifi or EDGE. I tried default browser, Dolphin, Skyfire and even Firefox nightly build. All of them are not opening any pages. Strange thing is, all other internet related applications work i.e. Market, K9, News & Weather etc. It is not a DNS problem as I can ping sites in terminal and get a response. I tried clearing the cache/data. Also tried CacheCleaner. None of the things I tried seem to work.

Android :: Web Browsers With User Agent Switching?

Sep 16, 2010

I am trying to see if there is more than the normal popular web browsers out there that support user agent switching. I am looking for those that support either custom or iOS settings.

Before I get attacked for wanting to emulate a iOS product I will explain.

The company I work for uses a 3rd party vendor for eBooks for our students we work with. They use a proprietary software that only worked on Mac or PC's to download the book as well as a online website.

Yesterday the vendor launched an app for the iOS that allows the users to download the books to their devices. They also altered the online version of the site to work perfectly with iOS devices.

They refuse to take into consideration Android devices and the website will not display the eBooks properly on any android device.

However, when playing around with Dolphin and xScope the User Agent settings have iPhone/iPad in them. After enabling them, the site thinks its a iOS device and the content works beautifully with it.

What I am trying to do is catalog the other browsers out there that support user agent switching to try to catalog the ones we can suggest to students to use.

General :: Any Browsers Other Than Stock JB That Don't Constantly Reload

May 5, 2013

Are there any browsers other than the stock JB browser that don't constantly reload or refresh the pages when you multitask? I imagine I want one that stays persistent in memory. I've had problems with Boat Browser, and Firefox has issues with zooming that drive me nuts. Opera hasn't updated their UK for high PPI devices, so the buttons are too small. I also have this aversion against cloud based browsers.

Trouble is, the update happens whether you want it or not. I can no longer play vids using firefox. FF tell me there is no longer support and don't explain if that means for now or ever. Chrome has the usual flash not compatible bs they always come out with. Dolphin now seems to have joined Chrome. Puffin just shows blank screens. If this isn't temporary then android tablets are merely web browsers.

General :: Dynamic Text Reflow In Browsers

May 19, 2013

I've been testing a whole mess of different browsers, and so far, I've only found three that have dynamic text reflow (by which I mean the text resizes to whatever zoom level you choose): Opera Mobile, Opera Mini and UC Browser, and UC Browser's text reflow is somewhat glitchy and unreliable. Not even Opera Beta has the text reflow.

I'm also aware some browsers have the double-tap after zoom to reflow the text, but I find that generally rather unreliable, too; it sometimes zooms out instead of reflowing.

Why is this? Is there a technical limitation with doing this in Webkit, that Presto made easy or something? Am I wasting my time trying to hunt down a new browser with dynamic text reflow? (Opera Mobile is starting to drag a bit.)

HTC EVO 4G :: Internet Browsers / Capability In Displaying Certain Content On Web Pages

Jun 9, 2010

I was wondering about internet browsers and their capability in displaying certain content on web pages. I go back and forth between the stock internet browser that came with the Evo and Xscope Browser. I noticed two things, on that it doesn't display animation on GIFs. I wanted to know, is there a plug-in one can download or a browser that would run the animation on the page? The reason I ask is because right now I cant tell the difference between a JPEG and GIF on the page when it loads up. Its only when I decide to download it that it displays the extension. My second question is about playing Quicktime files on trailer websites that run QT. I cant play these back. Is there a plug-in or browser that I can use to play those videos on my Evo?

General :: All Browsers Crash Constantly (except Chrome) - Nexus 7

Mar 27, 2013

To put it short: Dolphin Browser started force closing randomly a few days ago. I couldn't get rid of the problem and tested pretty much every browser available for the Android platform. Opera, Firefox, Boat, xScope, Maxthon and so on, they ALL crash. I don't really like Google Chrome, due to its lack of options (no fullscreen etc.)....

Here is what I did:

- uninstalled and reinstalled Dolphin
- rebooted the tablet
- deleted the app cache (also via "wipe cache partition")
- disabled Google Admob
- executed a full factory reset, installed Dolphin first, still crashing

The problem itself is well documented and affects many OS versions, even more devices and every browser. The only workaround is to disable JavaScript, which of course renders many web pages unusable.

Coming from a Blackberry Playbook with its own fair share of browser related crashes, I'm now utterly frustrated with the situation. The first three weeks with my new Nexus 7 felt absolutely perfect.
