So me and my brother are out of town where there is no Internet. I am rooted and I have the ability to tether. Just the question is, if we both use this for our primary connection this entire weekend, can verizon do anything about it, notice it, or is it against their terms and conditions? I just don't want my service getting cut off or limited.

I've been searching around -- most people have said to just do a factory reset. However, I found this discussion about changing it on a G1 How to change the primary gmail account on android g1 tmobile phone - 611Connect Blog | Cell Phone Reviews, New Cell Phones, Cell Phone How Toand was wondering if the same solution that "Dac@ Android Developer" provides would work on the Droid with 2.0. His solution was:
1. Setting > Application > Manage Application > Clear Data from Google Storage
2. Re-create GMail shortcut
Apparently this worked great for people with G1s. Am I missing something...or will these instructions just not work with 2.0?
I'm finally going to make the jump over to android from winmo this week after years of loyalty but the one thing that could sway my decision is the ability to do t9 texting. yeah i know there are all these new fangled ways to text like swype but imo nothing beats the simplicity of a 9 button predictive layout I played with my brother's incredible which had it but i'm unsure if that was an HTC thing or not. So are all android keyboards the same with the same option and if not does anyone know if the X will have t9 text?

Or is what I remember reading in the past still true - bought apps are locked to one account and cannot be changed?

just announced and released, a new version of Skype that CAN use wifi, something everyone was clamoring for. I have not loaded up yet, but might try later today and see how wifi works. it is getting okay Comments, but not great. Huge 14mb - which for rooted people is okay as we can force it to the SD card as it is not native SD card app though. No video ability. apparently sign-out or logging off is a bit tricky and hidden.

I had a few questions that I saw on here, but I'm not 100% about.
1. Does this come with a cable to connect to the PC? The Eris's charger was both a charger and a cord to connect to the PC, really like this ability.
2. Does Droid have the ability to run Froyo WITHOUT rooting?
3. Can you comment on some things I may find annoying or cumbersome with the phone?
4. Can you comment on the benefits I will get?
Not sure why but I apparently can no longer litsen to my Voange voicemail which comes attached to the email as a wav file. Not sure if it is a Froyo thing or a Chevy4.6 rom thing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a rooted Evo 4G currently running the latest Fresh. Also running the current Wireless Tether App 2.0.5 pre 9. I am always having a problem of the client computer just dropping connection and no longer can find the broadcasting signal. Seems like the phone just stops broadcasting randomly. Only way to fix it is to disable and then enable the wireless tethering again. This happens about every 10-15 minutes, on any computer I try. Work, home, shop, everywhere. I also tried wiping the phone completely and re-installing the app. Is there a more reliable wireless tether app out there?

A friend suggested a droid and tethering it using pdanet to my Mac. I use my internet primarily for browsing, sometimes I'd like to watch hulu or small pdf files through e-mail. Would this be a good option to consider or should I go with an internet connection? If I choose a droid, which one is the best one for tethering? I'm somewhat drawn to the ones with touch screens and no keyboards....but will listen to your reviews.
Supposedly verizon has a bandwidth limit of 5gb. Anyone know if that is monthly? How much is 5gb? Am I going to find myself a month out hating that I made the choice to rely on a droid for my primary internet source? Is there anything else I need to know about tethering a droid to my mac? Are there restrictions for OS X? Is there anything else I should know so I don't get the phone and hate myself later?
I've rooted my Eris and have am wanting to use the Wired Tether app. For whatever reason, I cannot get my Windows 7 PC to connect to it. If somebody could walk me through the steps to get it connected, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have searched and come up empty on results. People say it asks to update/install drivers, it needs ndis drivers, etc, but I'm not sure exactly what all that means or even how to do it. For example, to even get to that point, which option do I select on my Eris when I connect it? Sync? Charge only?

View 4 Replies View Relatedfor whatever reason today we lost our internet connection at work. Now I work for an airline doing charters and today we added a second flight to each shift. So I tethered my phone for the 3g and just plugged it in at the end of the day to charge it. Needless to say it handeled 300 passengers/customers easy. Changes, bag fees, checking in and selling for a solid 8hrs today! I don't think I'll ever get another cell phone ever. Maybe a bigger SD, but phone, probably not.

- Through the "Gmail" button.
- Through the "Market" button.
- Through "Settings > Accounts & sync > Add account > Google" And I tried both via WiFi and via 3G.
with Bugless Beast's 2.1 build? I'm running BB0.7, and downloaded the pre8.apk from Google. But it said that I don't have the right kernel to support it. It's experimental, I know, and based on Android 2.0. What .apk are you using with 2.1 and do you get any kernel errors with it?

After you root, do you use the wireless hotspot app already on your phone, or do you need to download another app to use. I'm not quite brave enough to try this yet, but as a previous BB Storm user I tried nearly every upgraded OS that was leaked and never had an issue. The universal androot app looks pretty fool proof.

Since I am too cheap to pay the $100/month for voice+data, I was wondering if there's a way I can tether the Droid to my current phone via Bluetooth. Obviously I can't use the Droid to make calls this way, but ideally, all the other data apps and services would work... or at least all of the data services not requiring an active Verizon account. How many of the Droid's data services just need "network connection" versus "a Verizon account"? I would simply swap phones and start using the Droid, but until the Droid can safely shoot underwater video without dying this is a non-starter.

Anyway, I just tether my phone to my desktop/laptop when I want to get on the net and it works awesome. My question - is there any way to tether my Droid to my PS3? I want to be able to go online with my PS3 for updates. If not, is there anyway I can basically "reverse" the effects of a wireless router and let my Droid give the net to my PC, and then maybe connect an ethernet cable from my PC to the "Internet" port on a wireless router and have WIFI??
