Motorola Droid :: AVRCP / A2DP / Car Stereo
Jan 16, 2010
Can somebody give me a straight answer on Bluetooth on the Droid and car stereo's.I've tried using the droid on a sony mex-bt3700u, a pioneer I don't remember the name of and a jvc kd-r800 on display in various stores. It will pair and work fine (Stream A Online Radio, GPS Navigation, and hands free phone conversations) except 2 things. My understanding is that the stereo should not come up as headphones. It does. The second thing is, shouldn't you be able to browse, pick, and choose (AVRCP) the phones music content in the Droid from the stereo?I can't do it on any of these stereos.I'm at my witts end.I really want to replace this beater stereo in my late model Porsche, but want to do it right the first time and not be pulling and replacing it multiple times.

I would like to develop a software using Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP profiles on Android. I could not find the related API on the developer's website at this moment. But, I found a product by Sybase below. http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1064424 Do we have any other option?

I have been experiencing some frustrating audio stuttering or skipping while using A2DP Bluetooth stereo. After a lot of web searching and experimentation, I seem to have found a solution and thought I would pass it along just in case it may be of help to others.First, the problem. I am using a Sprint Samsung Moment Android v 1.5 phone and an Altec-Lansing/Plantronics Backbeat 903 bluetooth stereo headset. This combination has generally been working great so long as I am indoors or in my car. Oddly, though, as soon as I start moving around, especially outdoors -- and especially in a downtown area -- I would begin to get persistent drop outs, stuttering, skipping, etc.Research on a number of websites suggested two potential general sources for problem:
1. A2DP uses most or all of the bluetooth bandwidth and a fair amount of processor; this can create a problem of insufficient bandwidth and/or system resources. A number of sites and posts suggest various approaches based on this notion, most of which involve turning off or shutting down as many resources as possible including wifi, gps, unnecessary applications, or even restarting the phone to clear out such processes. I already do most of this just to try to keep my battery alive through the entire day. But there was one item I had not turned off and it seems to be making a significant difference: Wifi notification. (Menu --> Settings --> Wireless controls ==> Wi-Fi Settings --> Network Notification.)I have run across several theories as to why this would work. Some suggest that when you are walking outdoors (especially in an urban area), the wifi notification function encounters (moves in and out of) a lot more wifi networks and that the stuttering occurs when it is sampling or processing each of these new networks. In any event, turning this feature off seems to have made a significant difference. This seems to make a difference even if you already keep wifi turned off.
2. The other line of potential causes could be a problem with signal strength. One post suggested that bluetooth signals are stronger (or are reflected back) indoors or in a car -- but simply dissipate when you are outdoors. The suggested fix for this (as odd as it may seem) is to simply move your phone to the other side of your body. The purpose here is to avoid the bluetooth signal having to travel through your body. It turns out that Altec-Lansing actually makes this same recommendation on their support page. To my surprise, this also seems to work. The bluetooth receiver on the Backbeat headset is apparently on the left side. Being right handed, I have always preferred to carry my phone on the right. But moving the phone to my left side helped to dramatically reduce the stutters and drop outs I was experiencing with the headset.
These two steps have really helped to solve this problem for me. Using my bluetooth stereo headphones has become a real joy instead of an ongoing source of frustration. I hope this experience can be helpful to others.

I have a problem with audio through my bluetooth stereo headset. I have an old Logitech FreePulse Wireless that I use and have tested it with my old samsung p2 mp3 player, no problems there. I also dont have a problem using a bluetooth earpiece for calls. However, I can't get any sound through the headset. It connects fine, shows "media playing through bluetooth" or whatever it says when I change the volume, yet nothing but silence comes out. Also I am on leaked 2.2, dont know if it worked on 2.1 because I never tried.

I'm probably going to be picking up some BT headphones, mostly for at work. I don't really care if it does voice too, and I don't want to spend a ton of money. I saw these at Verizon, anyone use them? Enter your location (Motorokr S305) Any other recommendations? I want good sound quality and over the ear (not buds). Also, and this may be a really stupid question, but is there a way to tell if songs I bought from iTunes are protected before I move them over to my Droid, or is just a 'try to play it' thing?

I have a rooted 2.2 and it has been flawless until I noticed today that I am barely getting any sound out of one channel. I have tried multiple headsets and multiple sources (Slacker, Pandora, Audible, ect) One channel is barely noticable. Is there a setting someplace? Has anyone else come across this? I do not want to return the phone since it is just about perfect and I dont want to mess with SBF.

So when I get an incoming call, my droid-X rings instead of my car stereo. I have the car stereo set to ring, but it does not. So I constantly miss calls in my car to the point where I may as well not even have a bluetooth stereo. In California, we can't talk on the phone and drive so it's killing me that this does not work after investing money into the system.
Never had a problem on my blackberry. Basically if I have the stereo on, I'm not going to hear my phone ringing, I guess I could set it to auto answer (not sure if that works yet either) but I like to see the number from who is calling first on my CD Player's face.

Are there any music apps out there right now that support AVRCP 1.3/1.4? My original motorola droid's built in music app did and displayed the song information on my bluetooth car stereo, but ever since I switched to the droid X about a year ago, I have not found an app that could also send the song information to the car's head unit.

I have a Alpine car deck and a Android phone.
I can confirm that which connected via bluetooth to my car stereo while using the default music player to play music, song tags/information/track is displayed on my car stereo (I am assuming using AVRCP 1.3). However, I have tried poweramp and player pro and they both do not display the music info/tags/etc on my car stereo which is a big minus. Any other music apps on the market (besides the default android music player) will display via bluetooth/avrcp, all the song tag/information/track/etc?

I was looking for a bluetooth device that I can connect to my Home theater receiver. Size is not an issue as it will sit in the closet and will be running on AC power all the time. I saw this real cheap device on deal extreme but reviews aren't great. DealExtreme: $12.99 Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP AVRCP Stereo Music Receiver and Handsfree (Black)
I also found this. Amazon.com: BlackBerry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway: Cell Phones & Service . It is made for BB but will work with any A2DP device. A mini usb AC adapter is required for power source. Also found a motorola device for this. Motorola 89015J Dc800 Bluetooth Stereo Gateway | Discounted prices on all Bluetooth Headsets for the All All - shopcell.com

1. Will a stereo Bluetooth headset work for listening to Pandora on the Eris? I ask because I saw one thread in which somebody said "No Bluetooth for anything other than telephone sound" on the Eris.
2. If it will work, any recommendations such a headset? I'm no audiophile, so my main issues would be comfort and battery life.

It looks like A2DP Stereo Bluetooth support is a recent addition.
Would you folks that know about it expect this to work in the Evo?
I've tried pairing with my Jabra BT620s headphones, with no luck. One time I got the remote control to pause & un-pause the song, but I've never gotten the audio redirected, nor the volume control to work.
Shoud this be in 2.1? Froyo?

I'm having problems with streaming music to my car stereo. Everything connects ok but playback is very jumpy. I get a 1 or 2 second pause every 10 seconds or so. I know it's not my car stereo as my iPhone streams to it seemlessly for hours on end.

I can't figure out how to turn off a2dp. In my car, the DInc is plugged into an FM transmitter and paired with my BT headset. The problem is the audio I'm playing comes through my headset instead of the car stereo. No problem says I. I go into the bluetooth settings for my particular headset while it's paired and uncheck the box that tells it to play audio through my headset. Problem is solved. Wrong. The setting doesn't stick.
The next time I got in my car and paired my headset, it started playing through the headset. This time I dug through the menus and made doubly sure that I had ticked the box. I backed all the way out to the home screen and the setting seemed to have stuck. Then I went all the way back into the menu and the settings again. The setting was still there and seemed to have stuck. Wrong. Turned the headset off and turned it back on again. Same thing. A2dp turned back on. How can I permanently disable this? I'm using a BlueAnt T1 if that makes any difference.

It's so tough to tell which headsets have A2DP, so I figured I'd post up for suggestions.BlueAnt Q1: Supposed to have some kind of Android specifics, but I couldn't find info. Also, voice control is not my thing.Samsung WEP870: Kind of interested in hearing from someone who has this one. It just might work.Wise and Blue WB130: Found it by luck. Never heard of the company, but reviews were good. Anyone have one?

Does anyone know if the DI has/uses the A2DP Bluetooth profile? I'm looking for a good Bluetooth stereo earbud set and most say they use A2DP. I checked all the literature on the DI that I could find and don't see A2DP listed anywhere. I searched the forums and found some info regarding the Hero and Motorola Droid, but nothing on the DI. I did read where the Hero with Sense UI had some issues with 3rd party apps and A2DP, but that the native Sense UI music app worked fine. Can someone enlighten me on A2DP and the DI please?
