View 6 RepliesI rooted last night and am using BB .3 My question is are there any good/useful apps that can only be used while rooted? I've already re-installed most of the apps I had before root.
View 4 Replies View Relatedfrom my "root" folder i create. the only app that stays on the folder is astro (which does not require root). even if not on a folder, my root apps disappear from any of my home screens. no problems w/ them in the app drawer. running bb v.0.3 but had this problem since bb 0.1.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I just installed Easy Root because I was so disappointed with the new OTA update I just had to do something...So a few questions that I have are what are some must have apps to have with having a rooted Droid 1. Not much seems to be different, I am still having lag time from loading up my icons when I go back to home which was originally my main problem with the update. I have so far just downloaded Rom Manager, Wireless Tether, and Set CPU which is set at 600 mhz Max and 125 Mhz, is that alright? My last question is how do I delete the pre installed apps? Custom Roms, and kernels whats that all about? Sorry for the new bs questions I'm just really lost and have no idea what I am doing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedHere is the scenario:
Motorola Droid - Original
1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.
I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?
I just rooted my stock froyo with it! If this has already been discussed.
View 42 Replies View RelatedI used DroidMod to root when I had 2.01. When 2.1 became available, I "un-rooted" then forced update to 2.1. Well to be honest, it is really slow and laggy. I now want to go back to DroidMod, but nothing I have tried seems to work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf i root my new X and then 2.2 comes down? does it not upgrade? de root? what?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to gain root and having some problems...
I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.
After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html
to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?
I have the Droid should I wait for 2.1 and then root or root now?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI know the "cool kid in school" thing to do is make fun of the iPhone market for having 1,000's of 'Fart apps'
But let's be honest at the end of the day it's really not true, and now coming from being a previous iPhone owner and now a Droid owner i can honestly say, the iPhone app market wins by a TON.
This is just a general QUALITY of apps comparison as well.
NO i'm not switching back... but man do i miss the iPhone apps...
Especially facebook.. and others..
You can REALLY tell the difference between the quality of iPhone apps vs Android,
So why am i starting this thread?.. Well i'm hoping maybe a developer could chime in and enlighten us on why this is...
Things i'm curious about-
Is programming in android worse then in the iPhone OS? is that why apps are WAY less in quality?
And you can't give the excuse that it's because things are new, when the iPhone market came out the apps were quality at day 1, many of them were.
So what's the difference? i guess software...
Well i'm sticking with android even though this exists.. in hopes that maybe future Android OS updates and SDK's will improve this very obvious difference.. right now i'm not impressed at all... the apps are all Slow, and they look horrible.
And for twitter? holy crap... iPhone owners back me up here, but the iPhone twitter apps are lightyears ahead of android twitter apps.
Just take a look at Tweetdeck for iPhone, and compare to to what i guess is the best android twitter app, twidroid?
Compare those and you'll see what i'm talking about.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to root the Droid prior to activating it (you know, doing the *228 thing to be able to actually make calls and use data)? My wife's new Droid just arrived and I'm planning to put JRummy's Pink Froyo on for her. Thought it might be nice to have it done prior to her getting home from work. I'll obviously still be signing in with her google account and I have wifi at home should I need to access any data. But she needs her current phone right now and activating this new one would in turn deactivate the one she has with her.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I just rooted my x with the help of d13. I don't know much about what I can do or how to do it. What apps do you have and which are worth paying for? Any good rom's you've installed? Currently I'm running 2.2 with flyx
So I had Pete's virgin 2.2 release on my phone, ran fine, full root access.
Sapphire 7.0 was released, so what the heck, I formatted system/cache, and installed.
But...lost root somehow. No SU app, no access.
Applied su.zip in Recovery to regain access. Didn't work...
Applied it a few more times, rebooted...nada.
Wiped system/cache and installed CM6 Alpha 3...no root. Applied su.zip, still no su app, no root.
Nandroided back to my backup of Pete's virgin 2.2 release. Root.
Wiped system/cache, installed CM6 Alpha 3, no root.
W-T-F?
Never seen this before...always wipe system/cache before a new ROM, never lost root before.
Really appreciate any suggestions...I have access to CW recovery.
Don't understand how flashing a rooted ROM could leave me w/out root access, or why installing an su zip doesn't add SU back in.
Is it possible to ROOT your Droid after the 2.2 Verizon update? If so, is there a link for it? Is it the same process as before?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to root after the OTA 2.1 update yet?
Sorry, I had my noob goggles on this morning and accidentally applied the OTA update after I did the baseband update so now I've lost root. I know, I know... that update file should never have been on my sd card to start with.
I did a backup with ROMmanager prior to these updates, but can't do anything with it now. Just need to root again so life can continue.
Im new to this. I just got my droid yesterday, but Im no idiot when it comes to computers. I even did some adb commands for the first time ever late last night.(they mostly failed )I followed instructions in another thread on how to install sprecovery on a 2.1 OTA phone without rolling it back to 2.0.1 So Right now I have 2.1 OTA phone with SPRecovery. My question is what do I do next ? Install a custom Rom? I understand there is no way yet to root the 2.1 OTA. ( I found a couple posts on how do so but the update.zips did nothing for me)IF installing a custom ROM is the answer then can someone help me with that? will it install on my phone that has 2.1 OTA with SPRecover? what is a good ROM? I dont want something thats gonna lessen my GPS as I have read some roms do. Most of all Idont want to Brick my phone.btw I love this droid and Im excited to be on the android forums
