Motorola Droid :: WiFi Tethering With Various Kernels
Nov 11, 2010I am rooted on the Droid 1 with a stock FRG22D kernel and ROM.I downloaded WiFi Tether from the Market.I tried it out on several different laptops using different Windows OS.It appears to work great as long as Access Control (MAC Filtering) and WEP are turned off.If either is activated, all data transfer ceases. Other posts have also noted this issue which appears to be associated with the stock FRG22D kernel.My question is has anyone flashed a Froyo P3 or other kernal that will allow Access Control or WEP to work as intended with the stock FRG22D ROM. I am happy with the stock kernel and ROM but will consider switching if I can find a compatable kernel or other configuration.Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Jul 16, 2010I am only drawing off my knowledge of the Eris here, but we have a similar issue where certain kernels dont work or everyone. The issue for us is that the eris ships with 2 possible touchscreen drivers, depending on the driver a kernel may/may not work on your phone-the touchscreen may become unresponsive after flashing.
I want to see if this could be the same reason for you guys. Can you post what your touchscreen driver is and which kernels do/dont work for you? You can find your driver version under the fastboot menu under touchscreen. (Fastboot is Send + End for the Eris)

Oct 7, 2010I need help with understanding kernels, so far all I am able to find is that I need to find out what kernels work with my phone through trial and error because even if its the same phone a kernel may work for one person but not another. So to understand what a working kernel actually is like, I need to know what apps I need in order to see the product of an installed kernel. I know they have to do with getting the fastest processor speed, while getting the longest battery life, while getting the least amount of heat from the phones battery and processor.I figure to know if a kernel is cooperating well with my droid I need to know what is a normal battery/processor temperature for the motorola droid1? and what are kernel slots? what are standard/med/low voltages?I figure battery life is up to me to decide if it is good or not.

Oct 9, 2010I just got an Ally and so far am happy with it. I have a hunting club where I only get cell phone service, no internet connection, so I downloaded Easytether and am actually using it right now and it works great. My question is, I only get service in one of the rooms to use it and would like to use it in the living room. Is there anyway to do this? Do they make a longer usb/ally charger so I could leave my phone in the room and take the computer in the living room? It doesn't seem like easytether offers bluetooth. I tried bluetooth on pdanet but cannot get it to work b/c it's too confusing for me. I can get my device pair and connected but it only connects for media/phone and won't connect when I try to dial up from computer. Ok that's long enough and confusing enough for yall.

Apr 10, 2014I'm using a stock Moto X international GSM version from the Motorola US store in the UK with a Giffgaff SIM card (with their limited goodybag that allows tethering). Using Android 4.4.2.
3G Internet on the phone itself works fine, but when I try to use the stock USB Tethering, Wifi Tethering or Bluetooth Tethering to use the 3G from my computer, all my packets seem to get dropped (ping and dig hang - computer is on Linux; tried on 2 computers).
USB tethering when the phone is on Wifi works fine, only when it's on 3G nothing works.
I have adb set up and working, and as expected a ping from adb shell works fine.

Jul 5, 2010I love my lg ally but out of nowhere the ringer won't work. i've doubled checked that all the ringertones have been set && that the ringer volume is turned up on everything but everytime my phone gets a text or call it won't ring.

Nov 9, 2010I have searched and read and followed all steps I could to the T. I cannot seem to get Apps2SD to work. I am using Drellisdee's recovery as well as Trident's Velocity 3. I have formatted the SD card to 0mb swap with 512mb Ext.3 and FAT32 for the rest. I have an 8GB class 2 (I know it sucks) SD card. I tried using Drellisdee's recovery and the one included with ROM Manager. I have verified I have the Ext partition through Titanium backup. it shows that I have 102 out of 159MB free on my internal storage and 220 out of 480MB free on my A2sd partition. If I long press on an app on Titanium backup I am not allowed to move it to the SD (The option is grayed out) and when I install an app the internal space goes down. It doesn't seem to matter if I install the app from a backup or directly from the market.
I have tried re-flashing the recovery and ROM multiple times with no luck. If anyone could help me I would be VERY great full.
LG Ally :: Kindle App Does Not Work With Velocity 0.3
Oct 10, 2010The Kindle app doesn't work in Velocity 0.3. It worked fine in stock ROM. I can download a book but when I try to read it, I get an error that it can't open the book. This happens with books I have on my archive list as well as new downloads.

Jun 5, 2010i'm here at work and have been trying for the last hour to get my phone to work as a modem. I got the same error message over and over again after connecting it to my computer "Error Code 67, your PCS Vision username and password may be incorrect." I installed HTC Sync, and it still doesn't work. So, assuming to myself that tethering for just one computer would be free, I call up Sprint tech support to find out what the problem is. First person didn't know what I was talking about so I was transferred to a really nice lady who helped me reprogram the phone but that didn't work so she sent me to another woman from tech support who had me go into System Updates and select Update Profile. I did that twice while talking to her and nothing fixed the problem.I kept getting error 67.So then, I get transferred to "Advanced" tech support and I talk to a really cool guy who goes out of his way to find a loop hole, but no success. So, he explains to me that after looking at it that they don't offer the "phone as modem" option anymore to my account type, and even then it would be $15 a month to just tether one phone. He said he could add the wifi hotspot option but I told him I don't want to pay $30/month for something I only use on Saturdays and when I travel. So after a hour on the phone, I got nowhere... but then I went onto the App Store and found Easy Tether-Lite and after 5 minutes I am sitting here writing this thread. (The full version said it supports https but idk what that means and I can surf the web now).
I only have one concern now though.I'm really happy this works but i'm scared now because this App was too easy to setup. I feel like I may be charged up the ass by Sprint somehow by finding this loophole or I may get penalized. My family and I are on the Everything Data where all data is unlimited so I don't think I should have a problem but after paying $30 extra a month for data with AT&T and finding this work around i'm getting paranoid that i'm going to get a bill at the end of the month charging me for tethering. So I guess i'll see what happens, but i'm glad for now.
LG Ally :: NFL Mobile - Game Doesn't Work
Nov 11, 2010I have been using raptor with a2sd set up, the newest kernel and turbo 4. I decided to install nfl mobile so I can watch the thursday night game tonight and it doesn't work.... thought it was an a2sd issue so I reformatted my sd card and flashed a fresh raptor. It worked. So I updated the kernel and it still worked. Then I isntalled the turbo4 and it no longer works... bummer. I'm figuring that the JIT is worth more to me than the nfl mobile app so I am going to leave it alone. I did find during this process that my phone seems quite a bit faster without a2sd. I have the original sd card which I'm sure makes a difference, but I think I would have to stockpile apps before a2sd would be faster than internal memory even with a faster card.

We Know our options but were wondering if there was a way for you to get rid of your primary Gmail without having to data factory reset. He wants to not lose all of his Apps and all that. If there is No way to do this besides wait on Google to get back to him then I have ways of getting him Mostly back. Just curious for some ideas.... Nov 29, 2010so this is really starting to piss me off, there's a whole list of things that piss me off about this ROM.
It will randomly restart Text Notifications NEVER make sound no matter what i do. Home button does not work, neither does the search button.
I've tried rebooting, re flashing, downloading other things. Still to no avail. A little help please?

Oct 17, 2010My LG Ally is stuck at the "VELOCITY" boot screen and is stuck in a loop. I had Velocity 0.3 flashed yesterday and I decided to re-flash today. I have tried wiping data/files/cache/dalvik cache. I'm stuck and I don't know what to do. Also I never did a Nandroid backup (because I'm slow).

Nov 23, 2010I figured out how to full flash the LG Ally 740 to cricket but 3 out of every 5 phones I flash do not save the NV settings. When I go to manual programming (##program740 send) then select DATA. The MIP & DUN MIP settings always revert back to the default 0000000000@vzw3g.com settings. I've changed them in LGNPST,CDMA Workshop & QPST but still reverts back to VZW. It's rooted and tried several different ROM's to fix the problem. Could it be the kernel? If anyone can help, please let me know.

Oct 6, 2010Before applying the Turbo4 ROM, I ran Linpack to get a base number so I can compare it with the number I get after I apply Turbo4. I got a 4.188. The phone is rooted with many of the stock apps removed running the Zeam Launcher, but no other custom ROMS.
Is that a pretty good number to start with? It was higher than I was expecting because most linpack scores i've read about are in the 3's.

Right now I'm using netachy-toastmod 4.1.9.1 CFS.Seems to work just fine, but I wonder if it could be better with say kings kernel. These and baked kernels seem to be the consensus for Warm.My question is what's the deal with CFS and BFS. What's the difference? I've searched and I'm having a hard time coming up with answers. I'm just wondering what I should be using.

Aug 3, 2010i have been running CyanogenMod6 test8 for awhile now, and I really like it. only problem I've seen so far is the camcorder which they've already mentioned so I knew that going into it. I have also been using a hydra kernel from their website hydrakernel.net and just now realized that the camera does not work with this kernel. so, my question is, are they any kernels besides the stock one that comes with the CM6 ROM? also, does the stock kernel with CM6 have wireless N capabilities? also, my settings > wireless & networks > tethering and portable hotspots > wireless hotspot does not work. is this a CM6 thing or is it a hydra kernel thing? I restored my phone to CM6 with the stock CM6 kernel and the portable hostpot works just fine. so that answers that part of my question.
