Motorola Droid :: Can't Update To 2.1 On Phone / Sort This?
May 12, 2010Running Build ESD49, downloaded the 2.1 file from like 6 different sites, named it update.zip (not .zip.zip), put it in the ROOT of my SD card - and I continuously get the following error code...
there's a whole lot more between the first and last entry but you experts probably know exactly what I am referring to.

Aug 25, 2009I bought my HTC Magic yesterday, I already love it (difficult learning to type msm though), but it annoyes my that I can't seem to figure out how to sort my contacts by first name. As it is now they are by last name, and that does not work for me. Can anybody tell me a way to do it, so that I don't have to change each contact manually?

Android :: Can't Write SharedPreferences After Update / Sort It Out?
Sep 28, 2009I'm trying to prepare an update to one of my apps and I just realized that the updated version cannot read or write over the previous version's SharedPreferences.
Some details: * I'm using the 1.6 SDK and compiling for 1.5.3. * My androidmanifest.xml does not have a sharedUserId (I didn't think I need one if I was not sharing data between different apps).
How to reproduce: * Install my current app from the market * Run the app * Exit and save the setting - invoking SharedPreferences Editor commit (it's using MODE_PRIVATE) * Now install my new update (via a browser download) * Run the app * Everything works fine * Exit & Save *** Now reboot the phone * Run the app again ==> Can no longer access old data or write over it!!
Did I do something wrong? Is it because of the sharedUserId thing? Is it because of the way I'm testing - via market then browser? Why is LogCat reporting a UID change? ==> mismatched uid: 10031 on disk, 10046 in settings; Can I recover from this? I don't want to delete all of my users' data. error ...
HTC Incredible :: Weather Widget Won't Update / Sort This?
May 23, 2010The weather widget on my Incredible (the one with the flip clock) will not auto update. I tap the sun/moon to get into the weather gadget, tap settings, on the top is a box to allow auto update. When its checked I get a warning of data use, allow, then back out to home. When I go back to weather settings, the box isn't checked.

Jul 7, 2009I have just root'et my magic (not for the first time) and everything went according to plan, i uploaded the update-zip file to my sd card, and went in to the update menu (or what its called) and pressed apply update, and after the phone was updated, i pressed reboot. And here starts the trouble: the phone just locks at the HTC Magic screen, its keeps showing that screen for a very long time, and nothing else happens, so i need some help to "wake up" my phone again.I cant find my phone in SDK when i use the "adb devices" command.If i try and use the [Home+Power on] command, i get a screen with a phone and a triangular sign with a "!" above the phone. Can anyone help me? what should i do?

Jun 20, 2010So my phone suddenly stopped vibrating... it just stopped. No haptic feedback, no nothing. I checked all settings and it was all turned on, but still nothing.
I reset and noticed that there was no vibrate on start up. Once booted, still not vibrate - but then suddenly it all came back. I'm so confused.

Feb 8, 2010I've just been reading Complete backup regarding backup tools.What I am looking for is a way to backup my phone in an idiot proof fashion, so that I can get it back to the factory and OS settings it originally comes with.When I say backup, I'm not too concerned about SMS, email etc - but more of a one-touch way of resetting the phone to factory status in case I bugger things up when rooting (I can guarantee I'll attempt that one day).Do I need Sprite for that, or will the phone come with some sort of 'recovery disk'?
Regardless of that, should I get Sprite in any case for day to day backup? The site looks very impressive.

Aug 8, 2009I just rooted (minutes ago) and I would like to put a hero rom on my rogers htc magic(32a). I was going to use fatal1ty's rom from here. Rogers Rom Repository (Check Here for the Latest Rogers/32A Ports) - xda-developers is this the best one to use? I'm a little confused about how to do it now. do I need a new radio or anything? In his instructions it says "Rename it in update.zip copy to sd reboot (pressing home+power)

shouldn't I go into fastboot and then type "fastboot boot recovery.img" just like I did when I was rooting and then click "apply sdcard: update.zip"? why would this be different? Pressing home+power didn't even seem to do anything different. Perhaps I didn't hold home long enough..

Today she tried sending me pics of our newborn nephew while I was at work and everytime id receive this message "download of message(no subject) was not successful" I had her delete the most recent apps she had downloaded and restart her phone and still same issue.
I had my friends send me picture messages n I received them fine.

May 9, 2010Picked up a tip for other 'wet phone accidents'. Don't use rice and don't put your Phone On, the best way to sort a wet phone is alcohol gel (the stuff used in hospital for your hands). 90% alcohol or more (you can buy that at a chemist or supermarket). Get a resealable bag. Put the alcohol gel in the resealable bag, drop your phone in, minus the battery/sim/memory card and shake it around a bit take/make sure the gel gets everywhere. Leave it a few minutes, bring it out and leave it sitting for a bit. And ok.
I know what your thinking, why wet an already wet phone. Well the alcohol gel evaporates at room temperature, it also more or less eats away the water in the phone. As another tip for water damage, get some scotch tape and put it over each moisture indicator when you return your phone-remove it. This may or may not work, however I don't recommend anyone try it, its just a point of conversation!
Sprint HTC Hero :: Not Getting Texts With Handcent While Phone Is Idle / Sort It Out?
Dec 10, 2009This is a multi question post kinda =). If I kill Handcent with task killer and put my phone in sleep mode with a single press of the power key I will not get any texts until I wake my phone up and then they all roll in. If I don't kill the task I seem to get texts while the phone is idle and asleep. Also I set the default text app the hancent now when ever I send a text it only opens handcent which is good, but if I receive a text it opens handcent the default app and google voice.
Any ideas on how to sort this out ? I did a forum search but did not find any thing that solved my issues.

Sep 15, 2010I received a message saying system software update to the 2.1 platform. I have tried twice to update with no success using WI-FI.
It will download the update and then stay on a screen that has a triangle with a exclamation mark in it and a Magic laying beside it.
I left it sitting in this state for more then twenty minutes! It appears to be frozen, there are no progression bars, lights flashing or anything showing progress.
I had to pull the battery both times. It comes back to life with 1.5 firmware version on it. I've seen some posts that looks like some people have had success.
