HTC Magic :: Way To Use Phone As A Modem For Macbook?
May 30, 2009I am on the verge of upgrading my phone, at the moment I've ditched the idea of a BB Storm because of the terrible feedback and reviews on bad signal and battery life. So I am left with the Magic or the new HTC Touch Pro " out in the next couple of weeks. I'm on Vodafone UK, i will be staying with them as they offer the best of what I need in my area. I use my phone for my business, it needs to sync with my microsoft office to take my contacts and diary with me, it needs to be able to be tethered (either usb or bluetooth) to my macbook so I can use it as a modem as I edit photographs on location and ftp or email them to clients. I do not send enough through my laptop to justify a 3G usb dongle on a separate tariff and Vodafone don't do a pay as you go dongle that will work with a mac (only the contract one works I've had a play with a Magic and it seems nice, I currently have a HTC Tytn 2(tilt) so i would have to get used to using a virtual keyboard with the Magic. The Touch Pro 2 looks sweet BUT it's big. So if the Magic could achieve what I need then it may be the phone for me. SO....my question is, can I use the magic as a modem for my macbook?

Apr 1, 2010I'm trying to update my HTC magic (Vodaphone) but running into troubles connecting it to my Vista Laptop.
I Installed the latest version of HTCsync, and its running.
When i connect my phone with USB, windows i detecting it, but HTC sync doesnt seem to connect to it. When i try to start the update executable (RUU_Sapphire_Vodafone_NL_1.91.172.1_DRC92_signed_ NoDriver.exe) it ends (after some other screens, and following them to the letter) with the error 107 - USB-connection error.
The magic is not rooted, contains Android 1.6, buildnr DRC92

May 31, 2010I've just set up Ical to sync with Google calendar so I can sync that with my Desire but when I plug in my phone, it starts looking for HTC sync and obviously can't find it as it's windows only. I've set debugging to come on as I read somewhere that would enable the phone to connect to my mac but it's not working. The computer can see the phone when I plug it in as a disk drive though.

May 23, 2010I'm trying to upload photos from the phone to my macbook. After uploading several pics to "my T-mobile album" and after emailing them to myself, I notice the pictures are pretty small, 480x360.. no where near what I expected from 5 megapixels (and yes, I have the option set at 5mp). What can I do to take larger sized pictures?
Possibly unrelated, I use the stock USB cable to plug in the phone. The phone will charge, but my Macbook does not recognize anything as being plugged in, so I cannot manually browse around to upload my photos. What gives?
HTC Magic :: Contacts Won't Sync To Google Apps
Aug 25, 2009In our company we are using Google Apps and I have a none branded Magic (delivered by 3 in Denmark) with Android 1.5 and a ROM with build number 2.16.401.5.In the phone's Calendar app I can create entries that will sync perfectly with any of my online Google Calendars but I can't create a new contact that will sync to my Gmail Contacts. On the phone there is only one Contact source (Phone) available.

Jun 16, 2009I got a HTC Magic a couple of weeks ago, and I've noticed a few weird behaviour.
1) Contacts Syncing doesn't work after a while. I had it synced when I first got it setup, but now it will give me a sync error...
2) My exchange calendar's attendees goes missing. I see them on the phone, but in outlook, all of the attendees are missing and updates to meetings are NOT reflected in exchanges, and hence will not be reflect on my phone.
Number 2 is the biggest issue. Has anyone else seen this?

May 31, 2010I import VCF's with contact details from the company intranet into google contacts to get the details to my Magic (Vodafone, Android 1.6). This works just fine but the pictures get messed up:
Picture of person A ends up connected to the picture of person B or C. Pictures don't show up when dialing or incoming calls are received, they only show up when searching. Please note: in google contacts all looks fine. Again, I'm quite content with the way it works, the picture handling is just confusing.

Sep 12, 2009I need to be able to sync my Lotus notes calendar and contacts with my HTC Hero. The sync must be done directly from my desktop to the phone, so what I am looking for is a one step sync. For security reasons I can not use a two step process where I sync notes to google email or other providers. It is not necessary to sync email, only calendar and contacts. Is this possible?

#2 - What do you guys have your g-mail sync set to? All? 33 days? Is there a way to set it to sync just like 33 days but then search the archive if I archive things older? If I sync ALL is that going to really slow it down?

That info is verbatim off my phone. Seems odd at points but i really triple checked.
My problem is that i cannot sync my device with Outlook. It starts the sync the first time i install everything, including HTC Sync and the HTC xp driver, but times out about halfway through the process, leaving me with names in the contacts but none of the actual info on the phone. Just empty contact names.
HTC and Rogers are unable to help me. I have used Windows mob. for the last 5 years and have never had a problem on any of my several home built and store bought computers. This is a first! So i have this phone i paid a bunch of cash for and its primary purpose (to me at least) being a portable outlook, is effed.
Anyone at all have this trouble? The last tech support guy i spoke with at Rogers admitted to me, probably shouldn't have, that he can't get his phone to sync either and he gave up and went back to iphone.
