Anyway while trying out ROMS today I tried the default android keyboard and I have to say. I LOVE IT. It completely owns the hero keyboard that came with my rogers htc magic. Anyway I basically want to know how to install the original android keyboard on other ROMS.

I recently got a HTC Magic.The only thing that bothers me is the "iPhone-ish" skin on the keyboard and dialer.Is there any way I can get the default Android keyboard and dialer? I would rather not root the device, but if I have to, I'll do it.

So i anyone knows a link the the apk that would be brilliant. Just to clarify, I mean the one with black keys. I tried searching but could only find a modified version of the HTC one.
Have any of you tried the compact keyboard with the Magic - it's better. It's like the Blackberry compact keyboard... I type much faster with it thanks to the bigger keys giving you better accuracy.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWonder you guys have experience this issue with the keyboard whether is in Portrait or Landscapre, I noticed that the last row "keys" are not sensitive.. you will have to touch the 'key" button a little above the bottom line of the screen to be able to sense it.

I just got it and have been using it on 2degrees NZ.I'm kinda getting bored of the generic white status bar and would like to try another rom. What roms are most visually appealing? (big words) I like the hero roms, but I have no idea what one i should use and getting them on looks too complicated for me anyway.

I go to the options for text input and set it to use better keyboard, but when I actually pull up the keyboard is the same old keyboard. Am I doing something wrong or has rogers somehow locked the keyboard??
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install apk's in my new htc magic I had before a G1 and I didn't found any problem, just doing adb install myapp.apk and that's it now, when I do the same with my htc, it says "error: device not found" Also, I noticed that if I type "adb devices", I dont get any device shown...I have also done the following settings in the mobile, with no luck: settings->applications->unknown sources (checked) settings->applications->development->usb debugging (checked) settings->applications->development->allow mock locations (checked) I know that is not a problem with the usb cable, as I have tried a few of them, including the one that was working with the G1... It could be a problem with the usb drivers, but everything seems fine in my device manager.

When using the emulator the way that I determine that the keyboard has been hidden is through responding to the KEYCODE_BACK keyevent. On the HTC keyboard there is an additional key that allows the keyboard to be hidden. When this key is pressed the keyboard is hidden but no KeyEvent is sent to the application with the result that the application is now out of sync with the keyboard state.In general is there a way to detect software keyboard hide / show events in a non-vendor specific manner? This would be highly useful for any application that is implementing custom views.

Using instructions on android's developer site, I installed eclipse with the right plugins, got created the AVD and wrote my first Hello World app which ran in the AVD. I would now like to install that Hello World app on my HTC Magic, but I can't seem to figure out how to do that. I've managed to create a signed .apk file and I've stored that file on the SD card of my phone, but still I can't install it.

When trying to make the first call with the default dialer that comes with Magic and android 1.5, it gets canceled right away. I press the top entry in the list, it goes to the call display (with the droid in the background and showing the name of call recipient), then i hear a beep and call canceled.When I try to dial again, it works! Problem is; it's really annoying to make the call twice!Has anyone experienced this problem? Or have a proposal how to fix it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI own my HTC Magic for only few days till now, but there is one problem what really makes me angry. I bought this phone mainly for having good and comfortable access to the internet. So, all websites are working good on default browser, except one - pinnaclesports.com. When I try to enter there, it says error:
The application Browser (process com.android.browser) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
And I have only 1 option to choose - Force close.
The same happens on Dolphin. Opera is working good with pinnaclesports website, but to be honest I don't like Opera, I definetely prefer default browser.
I've been trying almost everything. I did wipe and even changed interface from standard to Sense UI (which IMO is worse than normal interface) and I still get the same error.
So I currently have Cyanogen Tazz v4 installed and I'm loving it. I understand that there probably won't be a fix for the Froyo camera issue until there's a new kernel so I'm fine with using Camera Magic as a stand by. My only issue is I'm a big Gowalla user and I've just recently been able to upload photos using my Eris, there's been a known problem with it for a few months now. What I want to know is how do I make Camera Magic my default camera for all camera related actions? I see in the settings where I can set it as default and it is checked but when I pick Take Photo in Gowalla I only get the options of Camera (the stock not working camera) and Camera 360 (also not working). Anyone have any ideas?

I've tried numerous patches for a transparent status bar, but just can't seem to get anything working. I'm far too much of a noob to mod the SystemUI.apk for myself!

I tried to install cm6 but i keep geting an error. what exactly has to stay on my sd card after i root? i deleted the pc36img file, was i supposed to keep that on there? do i need it on there if i want to go back to froyo 2.2 rooted?

I've rooted my EVO using unrEVOked 3 and I've installed ROM Manager but I can't install any of the roms. I also tried to flash cyanogen by putting the zip on the sd card and when I try to load it, it says installation aborted then give a bunch of other stuff. This happens also when I try installing a rom from ROM Manager.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an HTC Magic running 1.6, but this has been happening since I've had the phone. Basically, when using the default keyboard (which, incidentally, seems tonnes better since the update - it's made me not care that HTC IME doesn't work) it'll sometimes miss usually two key presses. And the phone physically recognizes then, because they pop up above my finger, but they never appear in the text entry field. It's bizarre - does it happen to anyone else, and does anyone else know how to fix it? (Incidentally, does anyone else regularly hit the key instead of space bar by accident. It annoys the piss out of me.)
