HTC Incredible :: Wifi On Airplanes

Jun 22, 2010

I just got off a flight that had free WiFi. I'm wondering if anybody has had problems with this before. I was connected and had a strong signal however I wasn't able to use the internet without being connected to a mobile network. Did I have a wrong setting?

HTC Incredible :: Phone Switched To Wifi In A Wifi Spot / Can Use?

Jun 19, 2010

I have read all I can about using the Inc overseas and am confused. If the phone is switched to WiFi in a WiFi spot, can you use the phone? I have read that Verizon put some sort of restrictions on it, but I'm not savvy enough to understand it all. My daughter is in the Coast Guard and we both have DInc's. She goes to places like Star Bucks in other countries that offers WiFi and we would LOVE to be able to text each other with our phones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone with similar experiences? Recently I started losing my 3G signal on occasion and restarting to get it back. Right now I don't have 3G and restarting did not help. Even my wifi signal will disappear leaving me with no internet and I will need to disable and re-enable wifi to reconnect.

HTC Incredible :: WiFi Vs 3G

Sep 23, 2010

Based upon reading through this message board I was convinced that turning on Wifi and leaving it connected I would get better battery life. After a few days of trying this I can say "FALSE". My battery life has been greatly affected. This is with my normal use. No more use than usual. I read that having it connected to wifi prevents the phone from constantly searching for 3G. Under battery and use the wifi has been using 25% of my battery. I am going back to leaving the 3G on.

HTC Incredible :: Can't Connect To WiFi

Jul 31, 2010

I cannot connect to the wifi network in my house. I can easily connect to the wifi at my work when I type in the password, but when I try the WEP key at my house it still says disconnected. It shows my network and says "Remembered, secured with WEP" if I hit connect nothing happens. I tried "forget" and then connecting again, making sure my wep key is correct, and still no luck.

HTC Incredible :: Froyo WiFi

Sep 6, 2010

Developed a problem holding onto a WiFi signal after the Froyo update. After Froyo, I was getting a good connection intermittently, sometimes for only a few seconds before it was lost--the phone was switching to 3G and then back again, over and over. This disrupted downloads, browser connections, etc. I'm using an Airlink101 wireless-N router on the Comcast network.

I changed the router settings from G+N to N only. No more disconnects. Seems that the two protocols were conflicting with each other--fighting for a connection to my phone. My connection speeds went way up immediately (12-13 MPS download/3+ MPS upload). My wife has an Eris that does not have wireless-N capability (only G). I set up a secondary channel for wireless-G and gave it a different SSID name. This did not conflict with my phone--I didn't manually set up the login for that channel so it's just being ignored by the DInc.

Not sure if this is necessary for some wireless-N routers but it definitely worked (so far) for the Airlink.

HTC Incredible :: WiFi N (802.11n) NOT Enabled?

Apr 28, 2010

Several posts have "confirmed" that the Incredible has WiFi N. Maybe it is capable of WiFi N, but N is certainly not enabled. See attached picture of Airport Utility at my house, which is a WiFi N router. You can see that one device is connected at 802.11a/n with a rate of 270 mpbs. You can see that another device is connected at 802.11b/g with a rate of 54 mpbs. That device is my HTC Incredible. I've tried it with two different WiFi N networks, and the incredible never connects at anything other than WiFi G, and it never has a rate higher than 54 mbps. Does anybody still care to argue that the Incredible has WiFi N enabled? Has anybody else experienced anything different?

HTC Incredible :: WiFi Vs 3G Access

Apr 30, 2010

Love my new Incredible.I upgraded from an LG Dare, so one thing I'm trying to figure out is the difference between using WiFi vs 3G access.Am I correct that you always use 3G for making calls, but can use either WiFi or 3G for apps and surfing.I'm assuming leaving WiFi on uses battery, but when I have WiFi access does it drain the battery less than 3G.Also, does the phone decide when to use one vs the other or do I decide if WiFi is available to me?

HTC Incredible :: 2.2 OTA / NFL Mobile App Over Wifi Connection?

Sep 10, 2010

Droid Incredible running 2.2 OTA. When watching live streaming content using NFL Mobile app over my wifi connection(which is Cox Cable), the feed loses its connection after exactly five minutes of streaming. At the five minute mark, the feed will freeze and the V-Cast loading icon will appear spinning, then an error message will appear saying that NFL Mobile could not establish a connection. Back out at any point during this and hit the button to play live content, live content will work again flawlessly for exactly five minutes. Then the feed will freeze, etc...There are no problems with live streaming content when I am using 3G. I have tried using several different routers at different settings and the problem occurs the same with all of them, and I have no problems with streaming content over wifi other than NFL Mobile. This problem also never occurred with the versions of NFL Mobile prior to the current 2.0 version. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? The app streams much better over wifi, but that's not worth having to restart it every five minutes. A big reason of mine for being with Verizon is the NFL Mobile app so if anyone knows anything please let me know.

HTC Incredible :: Wifi Not Auto Connecting

Aug 1, 2010

For some reason my wifi no longer connects to my home network automatically. I need to go in to the wireless settings then in to the wifi settings menu itself, where I'll see my network "Not in range-remembered" for a second and then it'll connect itself. It wasn't like this a few days ago, and I don't think this happens at the 2 other wireless networks I frequent, I'll try and remember to check tomorrow when I drop off my son at the in-laws.

I deleted the network and added it back in, still no auto connect. I rebooted the phone and it connected once, then after I turned off wifi and turned it back on, it went back to needing a manual connect, which it really isn't even that. It just doesnt want to connect unless I go in to the wifi settings.

HTC Incredible :: WiFi And Battery Consumption

Sep 26, 2010

As an experiment I set all my internet apps - backup assistant, gmail, people, calendar, news, weather, amazon, stocks, facebook, etc, etc, ETC, to not automatically update, sync, refresh or do anything on the internet without my say-so. I then turned off my phone, put a full charge on it and turned it back on again to reset the timer for Settings > About phone > Battery > Battery use. For the next 6 hours I made a few phone calls while I was not in range of any wifi; I used a few local (non-internet) apps like calculator and stopwatch and camera but I did NOT use any internet apps. At the end of that time "battery use" showed Wi-Fi at 30%, Cell standby at 28% and voice calls at 6%. So why is WiFi so high? Is that just from some "keep alive" or beacon or polling feature? Or is there some app or process I don't know about using the WiFi connection, and how do I tell?

HTC Incredible :: Wifi Widget On Homescreen

May 8, 2010

I have the HTC widget for wi-fi access being turned on and off placed on one of my homescreens. The widget allows wi-fi to be on or off. When clicking the wi-fi widget ON the wi-fi won't come on until I manually go into Setting ->Wireless and Networks->wi-fi network and manually turn on my Wi-fi connection. Now this is not a huge issue but one none the less. Once I connect the wi-fi in this manner it work fantastic at 54mbps. with a good connection. I know the router is working since I use it for my laptops in the house and my in-laws come and use it as well with no issues.

Is this due to the fact that it has WPA password (which is already saved on the phone as the password and doesn't ask for it to access the wi-fi)? Could it be something I am doing wrong. Is there perhaps something I can do to fix this, whether it be a setting or a 3rd party widget to toggle between on and off.

Not sure what is going on. I have a Linksys WRT-160N router. Before the OTA 2.2 update I would get speeds on WiFi between 15-18 mbps (speedtest.net). Now Im getting less then 3G speeds, like 1.3 and under.

Ive tried to tweak settings in the router and no change. I even did a factory reset on the router and still same thing.

Finally I went to my moms house and tried her WiFi and got what I used to get 15+mbps.
