HTC Incredible :: When Reboot - Only Boot Into Recovery
Sep 13, 2010
I was running Virtuous 2.6 and I decided to run some tests with task killers/force closing apps, etc and wanted to get back to the stock 2.1. I downgraded to 2.1 just fine, installed the May OTA update, and went to install 2.2 with the PB31IMG.zip file. Instead of the bootloader giving me the option to update, it simply says 'parsing' for about 2 seconds and then goes back to the HBoot menu.
Now when I reboot the phone, it will only boot into recovery and nothing else. I put the 2.1 downgrade back on to the sdcard and tried updating again and it just says 'parsing' and doesn't work.

Today my phone started continuously re-booting itself. Only gets to the HTC screen and then re-boots. I have done multiple battery pulls with no results. I cannot boot into recovery either, tried that many times as well. My only option is a screen that I have not seen before that asks if I want to clear all data and then reset the device.

ok, so I put the PB31IMG file on my sdcard, and the dinc_ota. I changed dinc_ota to update. (I did not name the file update.zip.zip) I powered down, I entered bootloader, and it loaded the PB31IMG and whatever. then I hit volume down and selected recovery. this brought me to clockwork recovery. I noticed the isntructions said to boot into STOCK recovery. well, I like a dummy ignored that and tried to apply the update.zip thru clockwork.
This is what I got:
CODE:.......................
So, is this because I tried doing it through clockwork recovery? is it because I didn't apply the first OTA update we got? what does that mean exactly anyways? is it saying I need to install the leaked froyo ROM, and then update the radio? How do I boot into stock recovery and not clockworks recovery? does this count as applying the update.zip once, meening if I do it again I'll brick my phone? should I sell this thing and get a samsung flip phone because I'm too stupid to own a Dinc?

I did a full wipe, including cache, and got stuck in a boot loop. I pulled the battery, and when I hold down the volume and power button to boot into recovery so I can restore, the phone vibrates three times very quickly, then nothing. I can turn it on and go into boot loop, but that's it.

I was messing around with root explorer and noticed that i was able to delete my boot animation with it when i was mounted as R/W so i thought i would try to copy one and it also works... so no need to push with adb shell.. here are the steps
1. take the boot animation make sure it is named bootanimation.zip and copy it to your SD card
2. then open root explore and mount R/W and then navigate to the file and press on file till the menu comes up and select copy
3. then navigate to data/local and paste the file in the local directory
and you are done, this can be done with the android_audio.mp3 file as well just paste it to the same place.
just thought this would make it easier for people instead of using adb shell

I try to understand android boot sequence on my JB (under CM10). I found some docs and there should be specific partitions (boot, recovery, system, cache, data).
My understanding of the boot sequence is now:
A) normal boot:
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) boot-partition where i flashed the kernel aka boot.img ->
4a) system-partition with the OS (libs, UI, etc) where i unpacked over CWM my customROM.zip ->
4b) data-partition, where i unpacked google-apps.zip and installed all the apps ->
4c) cache-partition with user data
B) recovery boot (adb reboot recovery):
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) recovery-partition with CWM where i may unpack all the .zip stuff to proper partitions, or restore from sdcard, etc.
Is this correct? I wonder, because i didn't installed CWM into recovery-partition. It cames from install of CM10 (fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img), so it must be in boot-partition and not in recovery?
So, next confusion: i looked up to /proc/mtd and i don't see neither boot nor recovery partition here:
Quote:
# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 19000000 00040000 "system"
mtd1: 00600000 00040000 "appslog"
mtd2: 06580000 00040000 "cache"
mtd3: 1a400000 00040000 "userdata"
I did a backup with CWM and loocked the data. There aren't boot, and recovery backups:
Quote:
# ls -lha /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2012-10-04.18.49.55/
d---rwxr-x 2 system sdcard_r 4.0K Oct 4 18:56 .
d---rwxr-x 3 system sdcard_r 4.0K Oct 4 18:49 ..
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 1.6K Oct 4 18:54 .android_secure.vfat.dup
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 54.6M Oct 4 18:55 cache.yaffs2.img
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 360.2M Oct 4 18:53 data.yaffs2.img
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 212 Oct 4 18:56 nandroid.md5
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 214.6M Oct 4 18:51 system.yaffs2.img
#
So, i think i didn't understand the boot sequence and partition schema corectly.

My rooted Evo keeps hanging up after I try to reboot into recovery. When I rooted my Evo I had used a bat file from my desktop to get into recovery after original root. My question is will I have to run this file again from my desktop with my Evo connected to get into recovery mode again to flash fresh Rom. Will there be any issues with running this recovery file again. Or Am I missing a step to get into recovery. Power off hold volume down while power on volume scroll down to recovery press power button.

I'm really lost right now. First I did this-

Kernal version

htc-kernal@and18-2 #58
Build number

Software number
3.26.651.6
Browser version
WebKit 3.1
PRI Version

Now I'm trying to install Fresh 3.2.00 from
[ROM] 9/3/10 | Fresh Evo 3.2.0.0 | New OTA Base + New Stagefright + New HTC Kernel - xda-developers
I have ROM Manager installed and Flash ClockworkMod Recovery done. I already put the fresh-evo-3.2.0.0.zip into the SD card. Tried Installing ROM from SD card, checking Backup Existing ROM and Wipe Data and Cache and it asks me to reboot into recovery. Here's the problem, it restarts and just stays on the white screen with the htc EVO 4G logo.

I rooted awhile back and have been enjoying it quite a bit. I do seem to have one issue that I haven't been able to find an answer to anywhere. (it's not stopping me from doing anything, just annoying)
When I use a tool such as rom manager and reboot into recovery my sdcard can never mount (or isn't mounted) and after a dozen or so attempts the phone reboots (which I then press X on the keyboard to get back into recovery - clockworkmod). So if I go into the partitions menu option and then mount the sdcard, I can then do zip installs from the card.
But nothing I've tried will allow me to reboot into recovery from an application in the phone since apparently my sd card isn't mounted or can't be mounted without manual intervention.
Do you think there might be an issue with my sdcard? I'm pretty sure that I used to be able to do this, but recently it stopped working.

I want to make a clean hard reset of my GoClever Tab R974.2 but no matter what I do it won't load the bootloader. I tried all pssible combinations of all 3 abailable buttons (power,vol+,vol-) and all possible pressing times from a few seconds to a minute.I also tried rebooting into bootloader via the ADB but without any luck (device not recognized).My main problem with this system is that I tried to root it and it seemed like it worked, the superuser .apk was installed, however when I tried to start Titanium backup or any other prog that requires root access, it shows that there is no root access. Then I also tried z4root, but no luck either and SuperOneClick just freezes when restaring the ADB daemon.

I've been having some trouble with rom manager not booting into recovery. I fixed it by reflashing, but can someone refresh my memory on using SP recovery? If I power off, then power up by holding the power and X button, it doesn't reboot into recovery.

I am using a CDMA HTC Hero (sprint). I have rooted the device via Universal Androot which worked flawlessly. I am now trying to flash a custom rom, which is already loaded onto my SD Card (Red Dawn). Here in lies my problem:
Using Rom Manager, I flashed the ClockworkMod Recovery successfully but when i chose to ""Reboot from Recovery" the phone gets hung up at the white HTC boot screen indefinitely until I battery pull.
I have tried many, many different approaches and am now seeking some desperate advise as to how to get into recovery mode so i may flash the new rom. I have tried to enter recovery manually (vol down/pwr on) only for it to get hung on the HTC screen as soon as I chose recovery. I have tried to "Flash Alternative Rom" and the re-flashing the ClockworkMod Recovery all to no avail.

I noticed that you can now add a "Reboot" button to SwitchPro that works a lot like Quick Boot. This is GREAT! and I am super excited. When you press the button, you're given the option for Reboot/Recovery/Bootloader (also awesome!).
The problem is... it doesn't work!
Is this an issue with my Eris/ROM or are other Eris users experiencing the same? If so, I'd be happy to ping the SwitchPro dev to see if a solution can be found.

My X is already rooted. It's running the 2.2 leak and have FlyX 0.1 installed. (Theme or ROM? Doesn't matter)
Yesterday: Decided to reboot my phone. Came back 20 minutes later and it was stuck at the Motorola logo. Pulled the battery and it booted as usual.
Today: I want to install the 2.3.15 update. I am trying to reboot into CW Recovery via ROM Manager, yet it won't reboot. It asks if I want to, I click yes, and it does nothing. Tried manually rebooting it. Same thing as yesterday. Stuck at logo and battery pull fixed it.
Anyways all I want to do is install the 2.3.15 update. Can someone please help me? I don't know what's going on.

I recently rooted my LG Optimus L3-8C (E400) running stock rom and version 2.3.6 Gingerbread (yuck) and I followed all the instructions from this video:
in order to flash the CM9 ROM. Problem is I can NOT reboot into recovery no matter what I do it seems. When I try tp reflash the CWM recovery it tells me "successfully installed!" then when I press 'reboot into recovery" it gets stuck on the LG logo for so long I often have to hold the power button to go back to my device. I even download "recovery flasher utility" found here [URL]....but, whenever I run the app it tells me "no recovery.img" found onexternal SDCARD even though I placed it there! I tried to fastboot but whenever I run CMD it tells me " 'fastboot is not recognized."

I have Noir A10 by Qmobile and since morning I am having this problem. I had installed JMP ROM v 8 and it was working super fast for atleast a month or so. When I got up in the morning, I saw the wait logo(that appears when I boot up the phone). I waited for a few minutes but phone was stuck there. I tried to restart but it didnt respond. I took out the battery and turned it back on. It did turn on but display resolution had a problem. I could not see whole the screen. For instance when I browse to Application drawer, I am unable to see some of the Icons. I reset the phone to factory settings and restarted but had the same problem with display. Then I tried to reboot into recovery but it simply resets the phone to factory settings instead.

So I bought a rooted Droid from a friend. Everything works fine. The phone came with the rooted version of 2.2 on it. Now the problem.
When I go to download a ROM, it downloads, gives me the option to reboot in recovery (which would install the ROM usually), and when I select that option, it just reboots into the rooted 2.2 I'm currently running.
The first time this happened, I rebooted in recovery manually because the reboot got stuck at the bootloader screen. I then rebooted manually and loaded my previous 2.2 rooted ROM.
Now I can't reboot in recovery manually. Not too sure what to do at this point. I've owned a rooted Droid in the past and had not had any of these problems. I'd like to overclock and play with some other roms. Any help would be appreciated.
