Aug 23, 2010Does anyone know of a way (either an app or another method) of determining how often my phone is in a state of "searching for service" ?

View 6 RepliesI just got the droid incredible a few days ago and have had be reception since where I only get like one or two bars while in town and barely one at my house. I took it to the verizon store in town and they said this county area has the best 3G coverage you can get and can not figure out why I am getting such low bars. They need a roaming update thing twice on my phone but it did nothing. They said I would have to take it into a service station. I was hoping I could find a fix for it on here before doing so since my phone is rooted. also I notice that the antenna is at the bottom of the phone and when holding it there, the reception drops even more.
View 4 Replies View RelatedEver since the 2.1 OTA update that I received back in July, my phone has been burning through the battery quickly and places that I usually get a 3G signal I now get no signal and the big X in the signal bar.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAnyone else experienced a major drop in 3G signal as well as their cell signal in the past few days? I think it started monday on my phone and now its mostly running in 1X mode and dropping more calls than I have in the past two years. Not sure if its something with verizon, or maybe and app I updated. (My wifes phone is doing the same, but she also happened to update about a dozen apps on monday)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI think I need a step by step. So I ripped Avatar from a dvd using dvdfab. I chose main movie and Dvd9. This gave me a 7 gig file. I used handbrake to convert to mp4 at 480 x 272 or something on ipod legacy setting. When I put that file on the phone, it is 2 gigs. Does that seem too big? How can I compress this without a huge loss in quality? It plays perfect right now.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI at home or at work I usually get between 3-4 bars on 3g with my Droid. With the Incredible I'm going between one bar on 3g to 1x. Anybody else having the same issue? I hope I don't regret getting rid of my Droid.
View 35 Replies View RelatedThe FM radio on the incredible is horrible. Am I the only one who notices this? I tried two different headsets and the reception is still horrible. I mean, not just kinda bad, but basically the reception is so bad that the fm radio is useless. Anyone else have this problem? How do you fix?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI work in a location where the phone is without a signal about 35%-40% of the time. Naturally, my battery suffers terribly and I often need to charge it sometime during the work day to ensure it makes it until bedtime. Due to firewall/security issues, my phone is my only way to get to my Gmail. I also spend a lot of time on the move, from meeting to meeting, so it's advantageous to leverage my Exchange sync. Typically, I'm able to get emails right away, as the signal drops in and out frequently as opposed to being completely unavailable for long stretches of time.
I guess what I'm looking for is a way to reduce consumption without reducing connectivity. I'm already shutting off GPS. I'm leaving Wifi on for now, as I've got rules on things like Tasker and Setting Profiles that rely on finding specific access points. What I've really been thinking about is having a Tasker setup that turns the Mobile Data Network on and off periodically (say, 1 minute on and 10 minutes off). Does that sound like a viable option? I've heard folks say turning the data network off can cause sync issues, but I'm hoping that turning it back on periodically will solve/prevent all that. Anyone have experience with something like this? Any other ideas for power savings, especially as it may be relevant to a low-signal environment? I also make sure I'm on auto-brightness and am more aggressive about screen timeouts.
I live in an area where I had GREAT reception on my Blackberry... since switching to the Incredible, I have a really hard time getting a good signal in my house. Calls drop when I'm talking to someone and the person on the other end of the phone fades in and out when I'm on a call.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy buddy just stopped by with his Incredible and activated it while we were shooting the breeze. I was curious about the reception strength of the phone because of various reviews and concerns posted here. I own a blackberry Storm and pulled up the settings for signal strength... The BB Storm was registering anywhere from -80db to -89db with a near constant of -84db. I checked his Incredible and the signal strength was almost identical, always within -1db. His bars were fluctuating more then the storm but the actual signal was good. Just thought I'd mention it again that those bars really are not an accurate representation of signal.

View 12 Replies View RelatedCan someone tell me if the optical track pad is backlit? Ie the Droid Eris track ball is and can be setup to flash (pulse) for missed calls, sms, emails, etc. Just wanted to make sure that feature wasn't dropped.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI think my optical track pad is not calibrated. Sometimes (often) when I unlock my phone, the screens start automatically shifting to the right. If I manage to open an app, the selection keeps going to the right. For example, if I am in a text message and am trying to move the cursor to a previous work to correct spelling, the cursor keeps moving the right and down on its own. Is there a way to calibrate the optical trackpad? Anyone else having this issue?

I know it has been posted on here before...but I couldn't find it and I am not sure if it's the same page the other person posted but here is a link to life tracking of different cargo planes (leaving Memphis and other destinations) on the left search for FDX which is fed ex.it shows all locations....for Memphis...I would say go to the top left and do a live tracking and look for FDX going out to wherever your destination is.
Is the track ball supposed to wake up the phone?
View 10 Replies View RelatedIt has happened to me 3 times today, once when just sitting on my lap in my chair. After 2hrs sitting there I notice the lights come on, and it rebooted. Anyhow, I have no idea how often this is happening. Are there any apps to track this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhich is pretty cool because it puts a small icon in the top left corner of % remaining. But it does not tell me statistics - like what is using it the most, etc. I would really like an app that tells me the estimated time remaining on the battery.
View 7 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of an app or setting to allow to phone to wake upon clicking the optical track pad? I'm so use to doing this with my ipod touch that i really wished the DI could do it too. Wake the screen from the power button is sort of annoying
View 41 Replies View RelatedThe track pad on my Incredible seems to scroll and select items whenever it feels like it. Pressing on it seems to stop it but often it forces me to select whatever is highlighted to make it stop. I searched but so much clutter I didn't find anything on the forum about it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI might have been hallucinating before, but I swear that the Google Maps app would track my location with the direction of travel always at the top of the screen - the 'track up' feature for most standalone GPS units.
Now when I track my location, it has me going left to right or right to left. Is there some setting that I changed? I recall several updates the past few days. Makes me wonder if that has anything to do with it. Thoughts?
a question for MIUI users: how do you organize your apps? I'm loving the ROM, but I'm having trouble keeping track of my apps. The ROM lacks an app, tray, correct?
View 1 Replies View RelatedLast night I was hammering out some emails while watching TV. The only light in the room was from the Inc and the TV. I could not get the track pad to register my motions. I attempted to angle the phone to face the TV but still got no response.
I'm thinking this is a design failure. An optical device shouldn't be on a phone if it can't be used in the dark. Seems to me that the light sensor would affect the track pad's sensitivity based on the ambient light.
Is there any work around to getting the track pad to work in the dark?
Sometimes I feel as if my optical track pad moves and responds too slowly. Does anyone know if there's a way to adjust track pad movement?

I am still experiencing phantom swipes (only to the left) on my Incredible. Putting a piece of duck tape over the optical track pad seems to resolve it. This has been ongoing for about a month and a half. I have a warantee but really don't want to wait for my new phone/get one of the newer LCD phones. I have been able to recreate the phantom swipe by moving the phone under different light sources. This is so annoying.
I have tried everything, there isn't dust on my track pad and its not a matter of grounding. I really hope this is not a hardware issue. I got my Inc by pre-order (original with AMOLED). I have been able to toy with some of the newer Inc builds (with the LCD screen). I have noticed the trackpad is more flush with the unit, this leads me to believe they reworked the hardware to fix an issue. Anyone else with the original AMOLED Inc builds experiencing this?
I was just wondering what the difference between aTrackDog(SD) and the regular aTrackDog? Which is better and more stable?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy phone has been working fine since June. Saturday morning I had no bars and the 3G icon was missing. I could not make a call nor access data. I re-started the phone and was able to make one call but then no bars. If I drive 1/2 north of my house everything is fine. Same with south. If I leave a two square mile radius from my house phone works just like it did before. I called Sprint to see if there was a problem with a tower or their network. Support only instructed me to do a factory reset. If that doesn't work I could take the phone to a service center. I drove to the local Sprint store - the phone worked fine. I am only having this problem - now -only at home. Issues with data at home is one thing but not being able to get voice calls is another. Will a factory reset work? Could something be blocking the signal? Other than getting a new phone how can I get Sprint to understand this problem?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been here and XDA for quite a while but I recently started getting an increase of battery loss. Yes I know all about the not charging anymore once reaching 100% but that isn't the problem. I flashed Myns 2.2 R3 a while ago along with Kings #11 CFS. I was so happy when I realized it would take ~30 hours with occasional use and BeeJive running to hit 15% and warn me about low battery. It was only giving me ~23 hour with the same settings on Fresh 3.4.0.1. A few days ago, it started dropping rapidly and I'm not sure what caused but I was able to narrow it down to a few things. I remembered on that day, I dropped it once. I prayed to god it was okay. Picked it up and everything was working fine. I go and install a few updates and forget about it. Didn't notice the battery drop until the next day. I was only getting ~17 hours with everything kept the same way. Is there a log that I can access of everything I changed? I used Google nav for about 8 hours non-stop and while it was charging 2 nights ago, the battery never increased. That has never happened before, it would always charge more than it would drain. I didn't want to wipe and flash everything back since it's going to be a long week. Had a family gathering yesterday and gave my little cousins the phone to play with since it had so many games. There's another dinner tonight and wiping it would be out of the option now and until next week. Even then I think I'll be hesitant to do so since I don't even know if the problem lies within the apps.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis morning I took my evo off the charger after charging the whole night. For some background info I have all my accounts to sync manually and I did the gsm data trick and I am not running a live wallpaper. So I start my phone and turn on my wifi( I have everything else off) I then go watch about 10 mins of youtube videos and check my email. So I started at 100% and at the end of the videos and checking my email I was at 75%! What is going on here? I have done everything I can to ensure proper battery life but this seems outrageous?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI started a thread a while ago about poor wifi performance on my phone (weak signal right next to my laptop that has good signal). Long story short, I discovered that if I'm holding the phone in my palm with fingers wrapped around the sides in usual fashion... my wifi -and cellular signal significantly weaken. Surprisingly, there was no response to this. I began to think maybe this is standard behavior for a smart phone. I mean, when I'm in my office which is the basement, I literally set the phone down or hold it with just two fingers pinching the sides in order to download something on wifi. This 'bulletin' just popped up on Boy Genius Report complaining of this exact same thing happening on the iPhone 4. What gives? Does this happen to other EVOs? Seems to happen on both mine and my wife's so I figured maybe it's just something I have to deal with. But if I have faulty hardware, I'd like to get it taken care of. Here's the link to the iphone article. Holding the iPhone 4 affects the antenna, degrades cellular signal?
