HTC Incredible :: Possible To Have Audio Played Through USB Port Into My Car Stereo
Jul 3, 2010
I would like to know if it's possible to have the audio played through the usb port and into my car stereo. I have a usb port on my after market stereo and it's obviously not natively supported from the stereo, but is there a setting to play audio through usb?Sent from my HTC Incredible

Is it possible to be notified in Android when the Audio system starts playing audio? it looks like i should wire up a BroadcastReceiver, but it's not clear what i would listen for. I could listen for the MediaPlayer intent, but that would only capture when that particular application was playing audio, not when a third party application played audio, etc.

I'm developing an application which plays some music files. I want to stop any other audio playback when my application starts playing the music. I've looked at the source code of the Music application and figured out how to to pause the Music application using the intent "com.android.music.musicservicecommand"
But there can be many other applications which can play the music too, creating their own MediaPlayer objects. Is there a way to pause or stop all the msic currently being played?

My desire is to be able to listen, on my Android, anything that is output on my PC soundcard (running Linux).
I've been reading about pulseaudio and I'm able to stream specific things, like mp3 files. But I wanted to let Android get everything that is output to pulseaudio. Like YouTube videos, desktop sound effects, music.

Am trying to play music on HTC Magic via bluetooth over the car stereo. I am able to control the phone's music player via the car stereo but no sound. Call control works fine over the car stereo via bluetooth. I have tried my wife's Nokia and it plays music with sound via the bluetooth over the car stereo. I have checked and HTC Magic does show the bluetooth is connected with phone and music.

I'm wondering what the current state of streaming online audio through bluetooth stereo is, post cupcake. I think the consensus is that it's not currently possible, but I feel like it should be. In fact, it does ALMOST work. Using StreamFurious or Dizzler, it will start to play and stutter a few seconds, then cut out totally. I can hear a song begin to play, but the audio is choppy and then goes out. So, bluetooth seems to be making, but not maintaining a connection to the audio stream. How to remedy this? I want my streaming SOMAFM.COM.

I recently aquired a HTC Desire froom T-Mobile UK and one of the first things i did was to pair the headset with phone. All went well up to the point of using it to liten to music and video(a2dp), alas that did not work.
Making phone calls work, and strangely enough controling playback of media via the headset (avrcp), but no other audio routed through the headset. I tried a second a2dp headset and it was the same issue. They work perfectly on my other phones for years, the Desire is the first to have this problem.
- So could it be T-Mobile or HTC forgot/screwed-up the a2dp profile?
- Do i have a faulty handset? everything works well.
- Am I doing something wrong somewhere? I went throught the user guide a few times just to be sure.

I was looking for a bluetooth device that I can connect to my Home theater receiver. Size is not an issue as it will sit in the closet and will be running on AC power all the time. I saw this real cheap device on deal extreme but reviews aren't great. DealExtreme: $12.99 Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP AVRCP Stereo Music Receiver and Handsfree (Black)
I also found this. Amazon.com: BlackBerry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway: Cell Phones & Service . It is made for BB but will work with any A2DP device. A mini usb AC adapter is required for power source. Also found a motorola device for this. Motorola 89015J Dc800 Bluetooth Stereo Gateway | Discounted prices on all Bluetooth Headsets for the All All - shopcell.com

I'm about to upgrade my car stereo, and for about $30 to $70 more I can go with a bluetooth version, so I can stream music and hopefully books from audible.com as soon a they develop the app. I am planning to get the Verizon car dock or something similar to use the Google Nav. From reading posts in the Nexus One threads, the N1 streams music and phone calls well using bluetooth, and will pause music for nav instructions or a call.
Is it safe to assume the Incredible would work the same way? Also, I'd like to hear how others are planning to use their Incredible in the car. Ideally I'd like to drop the phone into the dock with the minimum of connecting charging cables, syncing cables, etc.

So you have a car that had the free XM radio for 6 months... The free 6 months runs out, and you dont actually purchase XM... So you have an unused XM stereo. There's a way you can use the XM inputs on your stock car stereo to be able to listen to your digital music from that stock head unit.
Bottom line is... you gotta have a car stereo with an XM hookup that is inactive and you don't plan on using it again.
It would take a little digging on your part for your car model...
Mine is a 2006 GMC Canyon. Here is the instructions I used to accomplish this: (Thanks to canyonfans.com ):
---------------
This radio has two buss connectors on the back, the one coming from the XM tuner has 5 wires going to it. They are purple, bare(wrapped with tape), black/white (common), brown/white (left channel), and green/white (right channel). Since I never intend to subscribe to XM radio (the following procedure will disable the audio channels coming from the XM tuner) I tied my mini-stereo jack into this connector.
Remove the connector from the back of the radio and cut the black/white, brown/white, & green/white wires. Cap each of these wires that go back to the XM tunner (hidden elsewhere in the vehicle). On the connector side you simply connect the left channel from the Ipod to the brown/white wire, the right channel to the green/white wire and the common for both channels to the black/white wire. Plug the connector back into the radio.
Now plug the the stereo mini-jack you just wired to the connector to the headphone output on the Ipod. Tune the radio to either XM1 or XM2 band and you will hear the Ipod if it's on and playing. I didn't see the need for a line-input signal booster either, it was plenty loud.
------------
So what I did was take a 3.5 mm stereo jack (obviously the one that fits the incredible.
See the wikipedia article for pin out info for the 3.5 mm plug: TRS connector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Basically its like:
Plug XM Stereo Bus Connector
tip ........................... Left Channel ........ brown/white
ring .......................... Right Channel ...... green/white
sleeve ...................... Common Ground .. black/white
After cutting the 3.5 stereo wire, there'll be 2 insulated wires, and a whole bunch of strands... the bunch of strands is ground (sleeve). There was a red and white wire, the red if I recall was LEFT, and the White wire was obviously right.
Simple 10 minute solder job, and voila! MP3 music, pandora, radiotime.com , etc whatever... from your incredible right through your stock XM equipped car stereo!
Your mileage may vary, I accept no responsibility for you blowing up your stereo, or worse, your incredible, ipod, or other cell phone...
Just saying, it worked like a champ in my case!

I've been really happy with my Incredible since it came out.I even got a new stereo for my car, an Alpine CDE-102, because I was able to plug my phone into it and it would start playing my music off the SD card.
Today I updated, and now my stereo does not detect the files on the SD card.I think it is only looking at the phone storage. Was the phone storage given some kind of higher priority in the update? Is there any way to keep my phone storage from being mounted?

My Incredible paired easily with my Toyota car bluetooth and works great, however. . . . everytime the phone sends or receives data (incoming text or email or looking at the internet or answering a text) it mutes the stereo for a couple seconds. It is as if the phone is preparing to make a call. Anyone have any ideas what is going on here? (of course, I'm only looking at the phone while stopped at a traffic light.)

This morning I wanted to turn on my DINC, but it did nothing. I removed the battery, then restarted the DINC. Everything seemed to work fine. However, upon connecting it to my PC, I noticed that my USB port didn't work any longer (it was not recognized by the pc, nor did my phone get charged. I went to the VZW store, and they told me that my USB port was broken. Will get a new device on Monday. In the mean time I am out of juice.

What kind of quality can the Incredible output to a TV through its mini USB port? I'm thinking that it would be pretty cool with nesoid, snesoid, genesisoid (whatever it's called). Like 3 classic consoles in one. Does anyone know what kind of quality the Incredible can output? Also, does anyone where I can actually get a cable?

I was just looking into getting a new receiver for my car since my current one doesn't put out rear-left audio. Looking at all these new decks that have usb inputs to play music from ipods and usb sticks got me thinking about the Inc. I read a bit about some other people having mixed results here - different phones, receiver brands, onboard/sd cards, etc. Has anyone tried this or have a usb input in their car and could try it? I'd love to have the option but I won't worry about a usb port if it won't recognize it.

Does the Incredible allow you to play music through the Micro USB port or can you only do it through the 3.5mm port? I'm looking at car docks and I've always heard that the USB ports give out better quality audio than the 3.5mm ports. Can anyone confirm this and if the Incredible has a dock for the USB port. I'm looking for an FM transmitter by the way...

I know this is not a big deal but it is still bothersome. When I try to run video while on Yahoo's site I get message "Cannot play video - Sorry this video cannot be played." I have no issues with ESPN, Cnet, etc. I'm able to run these yahoo videos on my wife's Eris with 2.1 (v.3).
Anyone know how to deal with this issue?
