HTC Incredible :: How Much Data Do You Use?
Jun 2, 2010
Has anyone else noticed a huge spike in their data usage? I used to average between 200-250MB per month with my Storm2. i am at 726MB so far this month!
I don't tether and I use the same WIFI networks that I used on my Storm2. I use the Incredible a little bit more than i did the Storm2...but 3X the amount of DATA seems odd.

What is the difference between these two:Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Enable always-on mobile data
- Description: "Uses more power on some mobile networks"
- Message after disabling: "Attention: Disabling always on mobile data may cause connectivity problems in some applications. Please use the manual refresh feature in applications to update online data" Settings > Accounts & sync > Background data
- Seems to be the same as the 4th toggle in the Power Control widget
- Description: "Applications can sync, send, and receive data at any time"
- Message after disabling: "Attention: Disabling background data extends battery life and lowers data use. Some applications may still use the background data connection.".Disabling either one seems to extend battery life. I haven't figured our yet how they differentially affect push email, etc. Would someone kindly explain to me how these settings are different?

I'm making an Android Java app game (although this question applies to all languages really) and hope to release the first version soon. I'm nervous about how I save data in my game. My problem is that, if in a later update, I decide to store more data or store the same data in a different way, I need to be careful I don't lose or corrupt data for users that upgrade (i.e. I want users to be able to use data created by an old version in the new version, like their high scores from before). For example, say I want to save high scores in version 1.

currently have the lg voyager with $10 vcast and $15 internet data plan. ordered the incredible from best buy and will be activating from home. do i have to call up and cancel these both before activating my incredible and will the data plan be automatically implemented since its required? im guessing its to much to ask to just cancel the vcast and see if the internet charge carries over at $15 instead of $30. either way it will be worth it to get rid of this brick of a phone.

I have a Droid Incredible. Working fine, suddenly this am, after a phone reset, the data no longer worked. Phone and texting are fine. Under settings > wireless and networks > Mobile network it is dark grey, and says "Turning on"..... over and over.
Spent 45 minutes with tech support. Nothing. Did 2 factory resets, checked the network settings in the phone, checked the settings on their end, nothing worked.
So, they say, we will need to replace your phone. Then, we have no Incredibles in stock. So, they call my local store, who also has none in stock of course. So they say they may be getting some in tonight or tomorrow, supposedly they are going to call me tomorrow and give me an update. I wonder if anyone else has had data issues requiring phone replacement? I guess since I talked to VZW there's nothing else that I could check on the phone.

I updated to Froyo this morning.I noticed I wasn't getting any data service on my phone so I ran the *228 thing. Phone rebooted and problem was solved.Sort off.I turned the phone off at lunch 'cuz I wanted to see the awesome boot animation. When the phone turned back on, there was no data service. I've now found that if I do the *228 thing it fixes the problem, but only until I reboot again. I've gone into the wireless and network settings and Mobile Network is checked and stuck at turning on. Do I need to do a factory reset to fix this? I've got a back up with My Backup Pro so it's not a huge deal if I do.

I'm new to the forums and so far am loving the vast amount of stuff I'm learning from this site and what this phone can really do! I just received my bill from Verizon for May and compared it to my April bill. I went from using 52MB of data on my Omnia to 545MB of data on my Incredible! I'm so thankful for the unlimited data
What was your data usage before and after you got your Incredible?

So after reading some other questions on here, I'm still kind of confused about the point of buying the $45 vs. the $30 data plan. What's the benefit of the more expensive one? From what I had understood in the past is that the $45 is if you want your exchange account pushed and synced, which I thought implied that you did not get those exchange features on the $30 plan. One of the big needs I have is that I can get my college e-mails, on an exchange server, pushed/synced to/on my phone.

Remember when choosing your minutes was the single most important thing on your cell plan? Then slowly, texting options became more important? Now, with smartphones everywhere, I see the Data Plan as the most important option. As for me, when I see the incredible, I see so much more than just a phone. For me, the phone part seems more like a tacked on feature in that the device is so much more capable than a mere phone. With its constant connection to the internet and its ability to run apps ranging from anything to everything you can imagine, the Incredible seems to fully capture the term 'Personal Computer'. Of course, having minutes to talk on your phone is important, but is that slowly becoming less and less a priority? With the availability of Skype and other VoIP services, could cell phone plan minutes be a thing of the past in the not to distant future?

I have an incredible on order and was charged $213 for the phone to be delivered Monday the 7/26 The price on the phone is $500 plus and is paid for my upgrading a 2 year contract.I want the phone but not sure if i want to pay for a data plan,i can be wifi almost any where I go.....i know I lose 24/7 connection and GPS (is there any FREE stand alone GPS app for android).I bought a used ERIS to play w/ while waiting for the incredible no phone service just wifi and has worked great for me. If I don't activate the incredible, HOW DOES VERIZON bill the difference for the new phone, $300 plus dollars different from what I paid?

The first thing I would like to be able to put on my phone after getting it set up and what not when I get it tomorrow (THANK GOD WAITED TOO LONG HA HA), but I would like to be able to have the option to turn the data off when I don't need it and turn it back on when I want it.If that makes sense?I tried searching on the board, maybe I didn't search in the right spots. I am not entirely sure, if so I apologize. Was curious if anyone knows of any apps that are free and easy to use?

I have not yet gotten the OTA update for 2.2 on my phone, but I am assuming that it will be here soon and once I do get it I am also assuming that I will most likely need to do a factory reset after reading all the problems that members on here are encountering. Now I already have AppBrain installed and have my apps synced to my online account so I can easily download them again if I do a factory reset. My questions however though are the following 1) Is there any way to preserve application data such as the notes I had in a notepad application before doing a factory reset? 2) Is there any way to keep calendar data and contact data if they were inputted as phone data entries and not synced via Google?

I'm considering exchanging my Incredible for a new one. The screen is really pink, I thought I could handle it, but it's really bothering me - especially since I use the auto backlight, so it's sometimes dim enough that the pink is very pronounced. The pink screen issue is NOT the point of this thread. I've read the other threads. I've read the other sources cited in those threads, the ones citing particular types of AMOLED displays using a particular layout of subpixels causing more pronounced reds. I understand it all, but I've also seen pictures of side by side Incredibles - one very pink, one very white. Pictures don't lie. I don't know what to believe, but if I go test an Incredible, and it's whiter, I want it. Sorry to waste so much space on this post with this, I just know how it goes on forums, and don't want to get into an argument over the pink screen issue.
That said - Here's my question: What's the best way to move everything over to my new incredible? I doubt I'll have the opportunity to have both in hand at home, meaning I'll need to copy whatever I'm going to copy before bringing it back. I primarily run Linux, but have access to a Windows machine as well. Contacts and e-mail come from Google, so I'm not worried about those. I'm primarily concerned with my Sense layout and installed apps.

I just rooted my phone and I'm not in the know with how to install roms, however most of the rom sites indicate how to install. Most of the roms I've visited recommend doing a data wipe and a cache wipe. Is this something I have to do every time I want to install a rom? I just did a factory reset for the 2.2 OTA and, quite frankly, it was a pain in the butt to get my phone back to how I had it.So, am I going to have to do a factory reset every time i want to try a rom?

What happened and is there anyway.to reverse this?

Just got done getting Third Wave the way I like it. Made a backup and am now flashing Skyraider vanilla (Came from Moto Droid) and I am pumped! I will probably miss sense and go back but I love all the options! I do miss being able to just restore data with nandroid backups on droid. Made flashing so easy. I am afraid to try this with the Inc. Anyone do this ever?

Is there anything special I need to do to transfer data from an old SD card (the stock 2GB) to a new one (8GB)? Can I just copy the entire old card using a card reader to my PC, then copy all of that back to the new card? Or do I need to do anything special on the Incredible itself?

It seems that what's draining my battery the most is my poor signal at work. I killed mobile data today while at my desk and despite the battery having just turned orange, it didn't turn red for nearly 5 more hours. So, I'd like an app that will kill the data connection at a certain time. Timer fix and Setting Profiles Lite don't have the option to just kill data, only an airplane mode option.
