HTC Incredible :: App That Won't Let Phone Go To Sleep
May 27, 2010
Today I noticed some very rapid battery drain and narrowed it down to Palmary Weather. I figured out that you must use the back key until the app exits for this to work correctly. If you just press the home key while in the app, it will keep the phone awake.
OK, I was just giving a quick heads up, but might as well keep a running list to make this easy. Just please make sure you've actually proven these apps have caused this issue or else we might have 1,000 listed. Also, this is not saying that the app is causing you an issue, just the obvious ones to look at when you do have a problem.
Known Problem Apps
- Flickr (if Facebook for HTC Sense is also setup to sync)
- Palmary Weather (updated:issue only occurs if you do not exit the app correctly...working fine now)
- Profile
- Slacker Radio (some do not have an issue if you hit Menu/Exit to close app...others still have issue)
- Google Listen (must be configured to only download while on Wi-Fi and while charging)
- Meebo
- Alice
- MyLock

I could not find it with search. I'm back to having less than 5 hours of battery before it shuts down. At 3:00 today I was at 100% charge and at 6:00 I was at 40%. The really interesting part is when I look at the battery details. I'm at 30% right now and I have 3:24:15 of uptime and 3:23:56 of awake time. Something is not letting the droid sleep. Other than stock apps I have, xtremelabs speed test, connect bot, keepass, astro file manage and K-9. The only app that should be running is K-9 and it's using 4% of the battery.

This just started happening. The Dinc won't auto lock itself nor will it go into screen lock when I press the hold/power button. I set the screen lock time to 15 seconds and after 15 seconds the screen only dims but doesn't lock.
When I press the power button to awake the Dinc it pops up to home screen or which ever screen I slept it at. i tried uninstalling the apps I updated and downloaded but no luck
ETA:
Installed ATK just to see what apps were running. Everything looked normal. I took of the reminder I had in my calendar and the phone is locking itself after screen timeout has expired and power key works. I put my reminder back onto my event and it is still locking.
Conclusion:
Dinc has a mind of its own and was probably amped up on Starbucks since I had some today for the first time since owning the Dinc

Has anyone experienced their Inc going to sleep while trying to multitask during a phone call? The screen keeps going between sleep and awake when trying to navigate through menu's during calls. I have already tried a battery pull.

Is there any way to get an email or text notification once my phone is in sleep mode? If my phone is "awake" it rings but once asleep I don't get any notification. Also, if my phone ringer is set to vibrate is there any way to set my email/text notification to ring or does it have to be both vibrating or both ringing.

My Incredible rings when there's a visible screen. When the screen darkens and phone enters sleep after, in my case 1 minute of non-use, any calls coming in do not ring through. Voicemail picks them up but there is no indication that I have an incoming call unless I wake the phone up and check the upper left hand menu for the voicemail icon. This can't be set up right. When the phone is asleep (dark screen) but not powered off, there has got to be a setting that lets calls ring through and awaken the phone so it can be answered.

Usually the phone is awake, and when you lower it the phone lights up for numeric input (love that feature).
But after a minute or so it locks. You have to push power button before you can enter numbers- annoying. Is there a "keep alive" option I'm not seeing?
On a similar note, is there a way to make the phone lock automatically (like an app)? It's also annoying to have to manually lock it: I'd rather keep waking it up (if it was indeed idle and not running a program) than forget to lock it and dial/message everyone in my contact list from my pocket.

As the phone sits idle, the screen goes black. In order to use the phone again you must hit the power button, then slide down on the screen or hit menu. Is there anyway to remove the phone from sleep other than hitting the power button? I find this incredibly annoying that I can't just tap the screen then slide down. Are there any other options for removing it from sleep mode and if so where would I change it?

When you press the button on the top of the phone, does it immediately go into Sleep Mode? My screen is set to time out after 30 second. When it does, is that Sleep Mode? I ask this because when I press the button to bring the phone back up, I can check the Up Time and Awake Time and it doesn't appear to have been asleep. For example: I just pressed the button after the screen timed out. The Up Time is 6:28:14 and the Awake Time is 2:37:12. I am guess that Up Time is from the last time the phone was OFF and then powered by ON. Awake time appears to be how long it has been awake from SLEEP. I just don't understand when it actually goes to sleep.

I am looking for a widget that will put the screen to sleep like the power button does, but a widget on the screen. I know it sounds stupid, but when the phone is in the cradle in my car, it would be much easier to tap a widget on the screen to turn screen off than push down on the power button. I have a lock program that allows me to use the trackpad to wake the screen up, but have not found one to put the inc to sleep.

Just got an incredible (ebay - had to get rid of Eris) and New, out of the box the phone powers up fine. But the minute it comes out of sleep mode, the screen has scrolled to a different location - however, I need to actually push the screen in the location where the button I want to press should be located.
Have been searching here for an hour, but can't find anything like this so had to make a new thread. Sorry if it's a duplication.

I just checked my battery and my awake time is 1:00 hr while my voice calls under battery usage show 1h 41 min.I am just asking to better understand the Android OS the time for my voice calls seems to be on par but how does it show that the phone was only awake for 1 hr?Should the awake time not be the same or greater depends on what I did while the phone is not "sleeping"? I am just a little confused by this...could someone pls explain?

I really hope this isn't normal. When I go to sleep and wake up 8-9 hours later, my phone loses 20% battery. I have Wi-fi, BT, GPS, and sync turned off. No task managers except for the System Panel Lite which I don't even use. Any ideas why I lose so much battery over night? And a completely unrelated problem. When I click on add application in LauncherPro, it takes forever to find all the apps. It's almost instant whenever I restart the phone, but takes longer as the phone stays on. I know I can add apps by opening the app drawer (which loads the apps instantly) and long pressing the app, but this is still an annoying bug since it happens everytime I have to look though all apps (App Manager & Manager Apps in settings). Thoughts?

I feel like this must be so obvious and I'm missing it. Just want a button I can hit to turn screen off without waiting for it to timeout on its own. Otherwise it seems to often do random stuff in my pocket if I am unwilling to wait to put it back.

Has anyone had the problem of the exchange/activesync not pushing email like it should after the phone goes to sleep?
If the phone is awake than I don't have any problems. Email comes immediately and quickly. If it falls asleep for more than 10 minutes or so it'll push email a good 10-15 minutes late.
I read a couple people had similar issues and the only advice people gave was to ensure that the mobile network box was checked on. People also said to ensure "enable always-on mobile data" is checked as well. Both are but I'm still having these issues. It happens with both the regular exchange interface and I also tried touchdown but it does the same thing.

I typically have my phone sitting on my desk infront of my keyboard @ work. I noticed that once maybe every 5 minutes or so, that the screen flashes on&off once. I assume it's waking to check for data updates or something, but just seemed odd.

I am one of the thousands having the signal issue with the phone. I noticed while in debug mode (##33284) that the Band # will jump from Sleep mode to CDMA. Could that be contributing to the weak and unstable signal issues with the phone? If so how do we change this?

I've got my ALL notifications turned on for my IMAP email account (which is set to check email every 5 minutes).
That means I should hear a notification tone, I should feel a notification vibration -- and I should see the notification light.
Absolutely none of those things are happening. When my phone is sleeping -- I get no light, no audible tone and no vibration.
It very well may be operator error on my part -- but this phone is going back if this isn't resolved.

I apologize if these topics were already covered in previous threads.I wasn't able to find anything related in my searches. Auto-rotation for keyboard when answering a text message received in sleep mode does not work. If I actively send a text when phone is already awake, keyboard rotates with no problem but when I go to reply to a text that I received while phone is in sleep mode, the keyboard does not rotate. Is this the norm?I am also experiencing a delay when the I wake the phone. After unlocking the phone, I used to go straight to my home page, now I get a "loading" message which takes several seconds. Is this due to the number of apps I have loaded? Is it possibly due to number of photo frames I have on my home screen or the complexity of the wallpaper?

After weeks of being afraid, i finally installed the new update to my evo last night. My phone isnt/wasnt rooted before the install...and my battery life seems to really crappy since i did the install last night. I took the phone off the charger at 7am, used it just for texting basically, sent maybe 50 texts back and fourth and now the phones at 68% battery life via system monitor.
I check the about phone and it says the uptime and awake time are the same...is this because it was changed with the new software? the phone was on and plugged in all night and its only giving me an "UP" time and awake time of 3 hours and xx minutes?
Anyone else have this problem? with the phone being awake, will this kill my battery faster? i searched and could only find problems with the eris, not the evo, any ideas?
I had this problem the first week i got the phone, i had terrible battery life and sprint reset it, and made the problem disappear...i had awesome battery life averaging 10-18 hours on a single charge with heavy useage...any ideas?

So after applying the update my awake and uptime are identical. I'm trying to see whats the easiest way to find the source of it? Im guessing its an app that I was using on 2.1 that isnt working right with 2.2.
