HTC Incredible :: Wireless Connectivity - SSID Broadcasting

Sep 1, 2010

I can connect to my wireless router if the SSID is being broadcasted. I cannot connect to the wireless router if the SSID is not broadcasted. I know that on my laptop, this is still achieved. I was wondering if the same could be done with the DINC. Is there a way to connect to the router when the SSID is not broadcasted?

HTC Hero :: WiFi - SSID Not Broadcasting

Oct 21, 2009

I have a D-Link WAP set up for G/N and also set so that it does not broadcast my SSID. My new Hero is able to connect at work to our WAP (WEP security), but at home it can't find my WAP (WPA security). If I change my setting so that it now broadcasts my SSID it can connect, but what the heck? Why can't it connect if I've input the SSID and WPA code, but the SSID isn't broadcasting?

HTC Droid Eris :: WiFi - Hidden / Non Broadcasting SSID

Feb 9, 2010

This is something that has been addressed with other handsets, and other users, sometimes with success, and sometimes without. My friend has solved this problem with his HTC Hero. You're trying to connect to a WiFi network that is hidden. In other words, the name isn't broadcasted. In other words (again), your WiFi won't automatically find this network.

So you manually type it in Menu > Settings > Wireless Ctrl > WiFi Settings > Add WiFi network. You type in all of the details. No connection. As if it's not there. So you find that some others with their Android phones, have found success using HiddenSSIDEnabler from the Market. Removing the 'Remembered' network. Adding it freshly. Using HiddenSSID. Removing it again. Adding it again. In any order. No luck. onnecting to a non-broadcasting wireless network

Can Android connect to a network with a hidden SSID? I hide the SSID on all my wireless networks. I've tried two android phone's that simply fail to connect. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or can android just not see hidden networks? I connect to broadcasting networks just fine.

Android :: Unable Wifi Connectivity / Cisco Wireless Router

Oct 12, 2010

So, I will try to be as detailed as possible, but this may be outside the scope of this forum. I will respond to any direct questions in regards to my configuration.I have a brand new Motorola Droid 2 and a Cisco 851w wireless router which I have configured myself.I can successfully associate the droid 2 to my wireless network. It obtains an IP address, subnet mask, gateway, etc.Using an android market ping utility, however I cannot ping externally or even to my gateway.I've tried the following in the process of my troubleshooting:tatically assigning my droid's internal addresses (and explicitly naming DNS).Unhiding my SSID Provisioning an alternate completely unsecured, unhidden wireless SSID (as opposed to an original hidden SSID, WPA2/PSK configuration)Restarting the phone and routerLaptop devices are able and have been able to associate, and pass traffic without issue for over a year.I cannot really pinpoint an issue with this setup, as I am able to associate and browse consumer/business wireless networks elsewhere without issue. Searches for the above described issue yield the same suggestions I have attempted in the process of my troubleshooting.

HTC Incredible :: Using WIFI Network With Disabled SSID Broadcast?

Jul 4, 2010

I used to keep my SSID broadcast at home disable, and four computers have never had a problem using the network. Only my Incredible doesn't seem to be able to reconnect to a remembered network not broadcasting its SSID. In fact, if I turn off the SSID while the Incredible is connected, it instantly drops the WIFI connection. Anyone have luck having the Incredible use a network without the SSID being broadcast constantly? I'm using WPA2 if that makes a difference.

HTC Incredible :: No Network Internet Connectivity

Apr 29, 2010

So I dropped AT&T for the Incredible and my number successfully ported over, but I cannot connect to the Internet.I can make/receive calls and SMS, but no Internet besides wifi.I've been on with vzw support and went through reactivating the phone (*228) and a couple hard reset to no avail. They said it could have something to do with porting from AT&T, but I'm not understanding that connection.I don't have too much faith in support figuring out so I'm trying this forum. Does anyone have a clue how to resolve this or is it a defect with the phone. Some details: there is no 3G symbol near the signal status bars.Settings/Wireless & networks: shows "Mobile Network" with a green check, buts its grayed out so no action can be taken on it.Directly underneath "Mobile Network" it says "Turning on..." and it seems to flash that status every once in a while.

HTC Incredible :: SD Card Dies On Rooted Froyo / PC Connectivity

Aug 23, 2010

I apologize for this double posting but it was suggested that my post to troubleshooting forum was perhaps more appropriate here. Posted Today, 08:16 PM My Kingston 16G class 10 sd card actually physically cracked and is therefore defunct but Kingston will be replacing it within the week - I foolishly do not have it backed up on my PC. I had rooted my Incredible with Unprovoked 3 and had been experimenting with a couple of Froyo ROMs using ROM Manager: Cyanogen6RG3 and Skyrider 2.5. I had just updated my Clockwork Mod Recovery (and to truly screw things up ) I had made full use of Apps2sd. Now, when I put my old SanDisk 2G sd back in, (all I had was 1 old nandroid backup on it) I am back to: Or, do I want to try reinstalling Rom Manager and do the permission fix - then reflash one of the Froyo Roms. But would that get me Market back? In all cases I'm gonna have to reinstall most of my apps since most resided (at least partially) on the dead sd. Fortunately appbrain has a record of all my apps. - but, from what I understand, there's no way to install the Market, except via HTC/Google/Verizon. So, I probably won't have my new 16G card for almost a week and I'm very open to suggestions as to my best plan of attack. I guess I should also think about repartitioning the new sd - according to the recent lag fixes. Please know that, for the time being, I'm pretty much command line challenged - so (perhaps foolishly) - I am doing all of this on the phone itself. I recently downloaded SDK to my PC and I was just getting ready to try to get the hang of adb, emulator etc - but I'm hoping I can get my phone back to where it was before I get into that project.

HTC Incredible :: Wifi Connectivity Issues - Airport Express

Jul 16, 2010

I have a new Droid Incredible. I am trying to get it set up, configured, etc., and was trying to connect to my home WiFi network. I have an airport express (in bridge mode) connected to a router. The router is connected to my cable modem via ethernet, and also connected to my Mac desktop via ethernet. My Incredible can see my home network, but when I try to connect it hangs at the "acquiring IP address" stage and eventually fails. I know my phone is functional, because it connects fine to the wireless network at work. I know my home network is fine, because I can connect to it via my laptop no problem. I'm sure there is some setting that I am messing up, but I'm pretty naive about networking issues.

Maybe a way to turn off the warnings?

As in android, after inactvity of screen off timeout, android screen goes off. So here android itself uses some activity observer, to know whether user is currently active or not. I need not every keystroke or touch event with details, just knowing that user is active and getting a broadcastreceiver after some timeout value. Does anybody know something related to activity observing ? At my work they set the wireless with two channels. I add the network manually and it connects. But on my Sony xperia Z1 when I go to wifi and add the hidden SSID it just said not in range while the other network is in range. So far I tried the Hidden SSID enabler app with no luck. My device has kitkat 4.4.2 and is rooted.

Is this usually to do with the Kernel or ROM handles such functions independently. What could i do in order to avoid having to reflash the device.

I looked at the 3G Hotspot feature on the incredible and of course i tried it just to see if it would work and it doesn't. You just get a verizon page when you try to browse the web. I know in the past you had to root to be able to tether wirelessly. With Froyo does that still hold true or is there some type of app you can download off the android marketplace? I don't know if i'm big on rooting my phone. Verizon i think will charge $20 for the convenience right?
