I've been using a galaxy Y S5360 for almost 18 months and I have been using custom ROMs for around 15 months. First I tried Creed 3.5 and loved it. A few months moved to Jellyblast 3 which was again fine. Two days ago I tried installing Hyperion and my phone got bricked I managed to flash stock ROM using odin . But now my phone gets bricked everytime I try installing a custom ROM ( tried Creed 3.5, Jellyblast 3 and Hyperion 8) and Im stuck with the stock ROM .

Sometimes when I try to install custom roms with odin3 I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error. It always says: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information". Right now, I am trying to flash a custom rom and it is giving me this. Do I need to change something in the data.img or something?

I have been using the INC for about 2 months now and i really do like the phone. As all of you know, the battery sucks. I picked up the 1500 battery about the same time the 2.2 came out and the battery life dropped over the 2.1/stocker. I thought it may have been the battery so i used the stock 1300 for a while and it was TERRIBLE. To add to the issue, the battery takes longer to charge then it does die. And thats why i am posting this. Could someone give me a list of what i need to do while rooting my phone and installing custom roms? that will speed up charge time? Normally i wont ask for help like this but i have zero time to sit down and read about everything. Just looking for a simple fix to get me by for the next few months.

Alright so my phone has been rooted for a while now and I have been running Koush's Cyanogenmod for the DInc for a couple weeks. Now I was wondering how do I get themes for these ROMs and how do I install them?? I have seen people on the XDA forums theme their DIncs and they said something about metamorph but I have no idea what that is.

If anyone has been having problems installing apps from the marketplace (app finishes downloading but hangs during install) try this. It worked for me.
1. Log into your Google Checkout account via PC.
2. Delete all payment methods and shipping addresses.
3. Clear your market cache on the phone.
4. Install a new ROM
5. Open the market and re-download all of your apps DO NOT USE TITANIUM
I had tried multiple different methods in order to resolve this issue and this is the only thing that has fixed it for me. Others will tell you to make a new Gmail account for your phone but then you loose all purchased apps.
If you do not follow these instructions and still decide to use Titanium Backup to restore the problem will come back even if you choose to restore only the applications.

I am a new member here, just joined a few days ago. I've had my HTC Incredible (Verizon) for about 2-3 weeks and so far I love it. I've been reading these forums every day, multiple times a day ever since I joined here a few days ago, but haven't posted anything yet. I remember the first day I joined here I saw a thread that was discussing a custom Froyo ROM that you could install on your phone that would NOT root your phone. However, I also saw one that allowed free hotspot tethering, that didn't accrue any charges from Verizon Wireless, unless I am mistaken, but I beleive I did read that someone where on here. I'm not looking for someone to walk me through how to install, or root the phone or anything like that, I understand all the inns and outs of doing that.....I provide PC technical support for a living, working on my B.S. degree in Computer Science, so I'm pretty fluent in the technical aspects of working the phone and rooting and all of that, I was just trying to have someone point me in the right direction to the Foryo update.zip/rom that you could install on your phone that would do the following two options:1. I would prefer the version that doesn't root the phone, but instead just installs, if I have to end up rooting the phone that's fine, I would just prefer not to only because of possibly voiding the warranty, not because I'm afraid of screwing it up haha, I feel perfectly comfortable doing it if I must.2. I read one of these allowed free hotspot tethering and also got rid of Verizon's bloatware as well, I don't know if all of these are found all in one custom rom, but if they are that would be great if you could point me in the direction where I can download it at.

I set up Virtuous 2.6 (was running CMod 6.0.2 but it was restarting, even with the default kernel) this morning and have had this problem with Seesmic and Google Voice in Market where it downloads and then the progress bar goes away and the only button is Cancel download. But I can go into Astro /mnt/sdcard/download and there's Download.apk that is the file downloaded from Market. I was able to install both Seesmic and GV that way but neither are registered in Market, and running Market Doctor in Titanium Backup does not do the trick either.Any ideas on what the issue might be? I'd prefer to stay on Virtuous but not if this keeps happening.

So I randomly noticed today that Gmail 2.3 is available in the market, which is the highest version I've seen anywhere. It shows up in my list of downloads, but doesn't show as 'Installed.' I'm currently running 2.2.1 on rooted Inc.
When I click install, it says that it is unsuccessful. Do I need to remove 2.2.1 first, and then try to install? It doesn't give the "update" option. Just want to make sure uninstalling 2.2.1 won't cause any issues.

So PSX4Droid finally got released from the clutches of Google Market about an hour ago. Only problem now is I can't seem to get any roms to work. I set up a PSXROMS folder on my SD card, and my first d/l was Metal Gear Solid disc 1 and 2. I got them from here PSX ISO Download Section. So I downloaded the .rar, unzipped to get the .bin (says it's compatible), open the emulator, the emulator sees the files in the folder, I click it, it refreshes the rom screen. The emulator doesn't start. Am I doing something wrong? Wrong file type?

I've rooted my EVO using unrEVOked 3 and I've installed ROM Manager but I can't install any of the roms. I also tried to flash cyanogen by putting the zip on the sd card and when I try to load it, it says installation aborted then give a bunch of other stuff. This happens also when I try installing a rom from ROM Manager.

I have searched here and via Google searches about Rooting and custom ROMs. I still am not quite sure what any of it means. I know rooting allows access to things that you normally cannot do such as removing HTC and Sprint apps. Which I would LOVE to do. I mean, who the hell wants the stock widget anyway?

Has anyone tried this to build your own custom ROM? There are bits and pieces of different ROMs that I want to have in one, but haven't found the one that will work for me, so I'm considering trying to make my own to have *EXACTLY* what I want, but I know *NOTHING* about coding. I found this link over on XDA, has anyone tried it before?

Ok after I patched my Evo with the OTA update, I am wishing I had rooted first. In an attempt to figure out what I want to do at this point, I'm leaning toward rooting and flashing a custom rom. The questions in my mind are:
1) What are the benefits/disadvantages of the different ROMs out there today? Has anyone made any sort of review site for roms, or a comparison chart?
2) Is there one source that would have all major ROMs in one place? (I'm thinking xda forums, but haven't had time to try to pour through that yet).
3) If all one is looking for is to be able to run root-required apps (Backups, Tether, screen shots, etc..) Is a root + stock ROM the best way to go?
4) Should I Plan on losing ALL my data/settings on the first root? (I know google and other cloud stuff remains intact, as well as the SD card items). Coming from a Palm OS (sadly not WebOS), I find Android great in some respects, but the lockdown of a true backup still boggles my mind. I'm sure these have been asked elsewhere, and if you know where feel free to boot me in that direction, sadly after sifting through a few hours worth of root forums I still can't find the basic info above when it comes to the Evo 4G (I found answers for a few other models)

So Im kinda confused of this whole custom rom thing, is it like a custom firmware on PSP or jailbreak on iphone? Does HTC update the hero a lot? I mean what if I just wanted to stick with HTCs firmwares? Are they good? What is the most significant advantage of the custom roms? I like things simple.

I'm currently running the Carbon ROM (Nightly) (4.3.1) on my GT-N7100 Note II phone. With Kernel version 3.0.64-CM-gd6f2fa. I have my phone but i'm curious as to about the findmymobile service not being able to work on this phone simply because all samsung services have stopped. In fact it was the only service I would've most likely used from Samsung.
On the Samsung website trying to access my phone as a test, it simply comes up saying 'offline' which is obvious considering it's not installed on my mobile. Is there a way to be able to get findmymobile information on my phone?

I rooted my phone with Unrevoked 3 and just installed the FPS fix kernal. For those of you who have not done so yet, I strongly urge you to give it a try. The smoothness of the phone after installing the fix is 10 times better. My FPS went from 30 to 50-55 as measured by Fps2D. I will be observing the battery life over the next couple of days to see if there is any impact on the battery life. Now that I have gone this far, I am considering installing a custom ROM. Which ROM's can I install given what I have done so far. As I understand it, by rooting with Unrevoked 3 there will be some that I will not be able to use.
