HTC Incredible :: Low On Space In Notification Bar
Jul 23, 2010
All day it keeps saying I'm low on space in my notification bar and I'm not. Phone memory is 4gb and sd card is 32gb. The memory it uses for app usage is not low either. The problem is that I can't use Google talk. It just auto closes.

My phone keeps telling me this in my notification bar and its bugging the crap out of me. My intenal phone storage has over 6gb free and my SD card has 1.3 gb free. The notification will not go away, I have tried rebooting my phone. I can't not stand it, its just one of my things, but it makes me want to not use my phone. OCD i guess.Anyway, PLEASE tell me why it is doing this

Had my Samsung Moment for about a month. LOVE IT. Few issues (same as everyone else has noticed), but nothing terrible. Until: Randomly today TWO Notifications popped up that said "Low on space Phone storage space is getting low." One was what seemed to be from the "hardware" and the other was from the "Work Mail" app (which I don't use, haven't used, haven't even opened). When I click it, it takes me to the Manager screen. So, I began uninstalling some apps I don't really use (I didn't have that many anyway...a couple of games [Solitaire, etc], Facebook, Notes). It started running really slowly and random Force Close messages would appear for things like android.process, messaging--things that have never Force Closed before. I turned it off (pressed and held the red button), waited a few seconds, then turned it back on again. Immediately after the "Sprint" logo lights show finished, I got another Force Close message. When the Home Screen showed up, I had the two notifications again "Low on space". When I cleared the notifications, only the "Work Mail" one would clear. I went through and deleted some more apps that I don't use. Got on my computer & Googled the issue. Found a couple of random forums that suggested cleaning out the Cache in the Browser. I did that. Cleaned the History & Cookies in the Browser, too. Then, I did a soft reset (took out the battery). Started it up again, SAME notifications. Less Force Close messages. But, it's running VERY slowly.
After a few hours, I noticed that I hadn't received any text messages or Gmail notifications. I had my sister text me about 2 hours ago. Still have not received it.
I really don't want to hard reset. I haven't synced my contacts (I have over 400 & the Sprint store had trouble moving them from my Centro to the Moment) to Google yet, nor have I hooked my Moment up to my Mac yet (the Sprint guys had no idea if it would work or not with Snow Leopard & I hadn't had time to check yet) and I'm worried to try it now that my Moment has gone crazy...I really don't want to lose 400 contacts.I don't download a lot of apps. Most are reputable (Pandora, MotherTED, Shazam, Movies, Jewels). The last one I remember downloading was Google Voice three days ago (which I haven't really used because I've had the flu). I don't know if this is a Malware/Virus issue or if I'm just an idiot & did something wrong. But, it's running REALLY slowly right now. Still not receiving texts or emails (though my Twitter app has notified me of a couple of @ replies).I'm going to call Sprint & Samsung tomorrow, then go to a Sprint tech store if they can't help. But, I'm just hoping one of you have come across this & can help before I have to deal with hours of hold music & techies who tell me to soft reset over & over again.
BTW:
After awhile, I finally checked the storage space:
External SD care: Total: 1.89; Available: 1.85
Internal: About 2 hours ago when I first checked, after I had deleted a bunch of apps it said I had 7.something MB, now (after not downloading ANYTHING or barely even TOUCHING the damn thing) it says 1.95MB. Which leads me to believe that the 7.whatever was not necessarily accurate.

EDIT - I'm still getting low space now at 339MB free...I've never gotten it this low before though. Wonder what the issue is now? So I've been a victim of this problem like many people and I did something counter-intuitive that ended up finding the solution. I remembered I never had a problem before Froyo and how people had this issue at varying storage levels. Taking a wild guess, I moved any and ALL apps that were on the SD card back to the phone. Yes makes no sense right? Well guess what, it works!! It seems the Froyo build we have on our phones (I'm running Stock 2.2) has some nasty bug in App2SD that causes this issue. Want proof? I was always getting the error at around 430-450MB free recently. Randomly of course. Now? after moving all SD apps back to phone I'm down to 345MB with no issue. I even installed Fennec (was always a hassle before) straight on phone and ran it without getting the notification.

A FACTORY RESET is not an option for most people so I've been looking elsewhere for solutions to this annoying notification memory problem. My research has shown me that this error doesn't appear to be the same for everyone.
Some people have a problem with the HTC mail app (better settings below)
Some people have a problem with the internet browser cache.
Some people have a problem with the Peep cache.
Some people have too many messages- have to delete
Some people have an insanely large call history- have to delete HTC MAIL SETTINGS- these settings changes had a short term affect (one week)SETTING 1
MAIL>Menu>more>Settings>General settings>Temporary attachment storage> SD card
SETTING 2
Send & receive> mail size limit> no limit My possible solution- hopefully long term
Clear the contact storage cache
SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>MANAGE APPLICATIONS>CONTACT STORAGE>clear cache I'm curious if this solution is longterm or not. I cleared the peep and browser cache but it only helped for 2 days. Taking off the HTC MAIL app also only had a temporary effect. Does clearing the CONTACT STORAGE cache have a long term effect?

I had to factory reset but it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. Only took an hour to get the phone settings back. After getting the error for the 5th time, the phone froze. there was no other option. The good thing is that I've learned so much about settings now I don't imagine i'll ever have a memory problem again.App Brain made the process almost painlessAppBrain - the best Android apps and games on the Android marketNOW I KNOWThe killer is FACEBOOK & TWITTER contact sync turning thatsetting off makes a huge difference in memory. The reason i know is contact storage used to be my largest app at a whopping, obese 455MB.Now my largest app is a 7MB game i now this throughSETTINGS>MANAGE APPLICATIONS (Sort by size)

Why am I getting this notification? Internal phone storage shows: Total space: 6.60GB: Available space: 6.43GB
Phone Memory shows: Total space: 748MB: Available space: 689MB This doesn't seem low to me. What am I not understanding here? I'm kind of confused as to what each memory storage location means? It's like there's 2 different locations of where things are stored then right? I know apps can't go into the "Internal phone storage" so they obviously go into the "Phone memory".
When I hook my phone to my PC, I created a few folders called "ringtones", "wallpapers", & "caller IDs". Are these counting towards the available space in the "Internal phone memory" or in the "Phone memory" location? I did download Astro File Manager and when I opened it I can't find any of these folders I created, or any picture files from the camera pics I've taken. Where are these located.

So I just downloaded an app that quickly shows battery life, SD space, and disc space. It says I have used 628 of 748 mb on the disc. I thought the phone had an internal memory of 8gb.

I am running Villainrom 1.0.0 on my desire for just under a week now and since the second day of having the new rom I keep getting "Low on Space" notifications. I've tried to clear all the cache and remove apps that I don't need but still keep getting these errors. My device is only showing that I have 147MB of memory when I thought these devices had 512MB? I've spoken to other non-rooted desire users and they say they have never had this problem. Its a little frustrating that I need to keep removing applications and stuff.

I am now getting a notification that my phone is "LOW ON SPACE phone storage space is getting low". I am currently showing 14.2m free on my phone. My phone is not overclocked. My current apps list is found here:

The phone notification says "Low on space, phone storage space is getting low" I only have like 10 apps installed on this phone and I thought it's using flashdrive, no? If not, is there a way to install apps on flashdrive instead to the phone memory? What is the capacity of the internal memory anyway? I never had this problem with iphone before and it's worrying me that I can't install many apps as I would like...

I'm running 2.1 on the Cellular South East network. I have received a notification that my Desire since is low on space, but I have over 100 mb of free memory. After a bit of research, I read that I should try to clear application caches. I used the application manager but the "clear cache " button for each application is greyed-out. I then read to wait a minute or so to allow all data to load. I waited 3 minutes, but I still couldn't clear any caches. Why I can't clear a cache?

On Sunday I started getting the message "Low on space Phone Storage space is getting low." on the status bar. When I tap it, I'm taken to the "Manage Applications" screen, so it's clear that the message refers to the "Phone Memory," where apps are stored But when I go to Settings > SD card & phone storage here's what I see:
SD Card Total Space: 14.83GB
SD Card Available Space: 6.15GB
Internal Phone Storage Total Space: 6.60GB
Internal Phone Storage Available Space: 6.51GB
Phone Memory Total Space: 748MB
Phone Memory Available Space: 332MB
I've googled looking for solutions and it's obvious that this is a fairly common problem - especially on HTC phones. But the only possible solutions I've found are:
Too many apps are installed & space really is running low
A "bad" app was recently installed causing this error
Clear the cache for HTC Mail and HTC Message apps
Perform a Factory Reset We can rule this out since there is more than 44% of the Phone Memory available.
I didn't install any apps immediately before getting the message, but to be sure I uninstalled the 10 most recently added apps. No luck.
I've gone to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, but the cache for these apps is already zero. The "Data" for Mail is 2.22MB and for Messages is 812KB.
This isn't fixing the problem, it's just a way to eliminate whatever condition has caused the symptom. But without an explanation of the actual problem I see no reason to think the problem won't come back in another two months.

I have just recieved a notification a few days ago saying the phone storage space is getting low. I don't understand why this notification has come up. I cleared all of the cache from the applications and it still remains. I have a decent amount of apps downloaded but I used to have a lot more downloaded and never had this problem before.

Just got a notification that my phone storage space is getting low..only 6mbs left..and I did see a thread someone mentioned things not getting deleted from memory and I cant seem to free up any space deleting apps or scenes either.
Very confused as I only have 15ish~ Apps from the market installed, auto task killer is killing almost everything to up my battery life, I delete most of my emails..
Im also now experiencing a ton of lock-ups when trying to scroll through things like my application list, sometimes screens, loading the mail app etc..
This just started happening yesterday/today and before that it was running flawlessly.

So when I get texts, gmail, completed app downloads, etc I get notification icons at the top as usual. When I slide the notification bar down to reveal the nofications and click on an item, the notification screen doesn't hide back to the top of my phone -- it just stays open. I either have to hide it manually or I have to hit the back button, which sometimes exits the app I was trying to open. 2.1 never did this for me, it always hid when choosing an item. Anyone have a solution to this? I've done a factory reset after 2.2 btw. I've also searched support to see if there was a similar problem, no similar threads.

Well, im low on disk space again! The icon keeps coming up every day or every other day! Each time it comes up, I clear data on certain apps, and I uninstall some apps from my phone! I've removed Twitter, Reuters News and Jewels in the last week.. Icon leaves but comes back few days later! And I have a lot of space on my phone by the way!

Hi guys. I have checked all the low on space threads and i feel like mines is definitely an odd ball
When i click on the notification it sends me to my Manage Apps menu. The Manage Apps menu kind of freezes and all the apps show but the disk space says "computing..." and doesn't change
This is the current amount of space I have in my phone.
SD card - Total space = 7.42GB / Avail. space = 7.05gb
Internal phone storage - Total space = 6.6gb / Avail. space = 6.53gb
Phone memory - Total space = 748MB / Avail space = 696MB
I have tried clearing the internet cache and etc..still to no avail. the phone seems to be functioning fine except for the notification that bugs me.

Is there a way, after obtaining root, that I can make the App Storage bigger? I don't feel like I have that many apps installed, and I don't feel like HTC gives enough space for apps on the phone, when there is 8 gigs on board space. This, and the ability to connect to Ad-Hoc wifi connections would be the only reason why I would root.

I like the calendar on the Incredible and like what it does. BUT, there's also a little icon to open it so why does a whole page/screen need to be devoted to it? Can't I get rid of it somehow and just use the little to load it when I need to calendar something?

I've factory reset my phone 3 times today for data problems and push email issues. Since the last time, I have a voicemail icon in my notification bar, clicking on it tells me to call my GV number to hear 3 messages. I cleared the messages in the GV app,but the notification wont go away. It has no Clear button to dismiss. I've rebooted the phone, tried calling the number, but have not yet tried throwing it against the wall. That's next. Any ideas to help calm my OCD by dismissing this notification are appreciated.Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
