HTC Incredible :: Interesting Battery Comment
Nov 3, 2010
I got my Incredible the week it came out. Last week I started having all sorts of problems and had to reformat the phone several times. Anytime I installed or tried to use an app the phone would crash. They sent me a new one. I put my extended battery in, let it go until it died, then turned the phone off and charged over night. I used the battery, if I remember right, around 60 hours. It definitely got me through 2 full days. This was with my normal use. I don't use it as a phone a whole lot. A call every day or two. Mostly texts, brief internet and some apps. My last phone, the same battery would get me through the day but need recharged over night or I'd be needing to throw it on the following afternoon. So I try my standard battery. Let it drain out, charge it over night, typical use again. It's currently at up time of 33.5 hours and awake time of 1:40:00 with 30% battery left. Again, first phone, that battery would need bumped up a couple of times a day on the charger.Granted when I first got the phone I was obsessed with playing with it, but getting almost 24 hours more between two phones (original and the replacement) using the same battery is odd. It's a hardware 2, just like my last phone. Everything seems to match up spec/number wise in About Phone.I know there are a ton of battery threads, but I didn't know where to put this.

I know there are lots of comments that some folks have issues. Maybe OTA will fix it etc etc. My wife called my from Beijing, China on her Incredible to my Incredible here in California. Sounded PERFECT. Crystal clear no issues on either end. FWIW data has worked perfectly. She can access some sites like Facebook that the wifi in her hotel firewalls. The network itself was pretty amazing too. No call lag whatsoever.

Rang the Three call centre today to try and find out when those of us unfortunate enough to have a desire tied to a network would get 2.2, I had some quite comical conversations!
1. First gentleman (with a very English name!) stated that it was down to HTC to relase the update and when they were ready they would issue it out, told me to phone HTC no matter how much I told him he was wrong
2. Called HTC who were excellent and suggested I call Three again and reiterate to them that its down to the network provider to issue an update.
3. Second gentleman again with a very English name said I could simply download 2.2 from Android developers website and load it onto my phone, this would mean I bypass the official Three update.
I was under the understanding that my phone with Three branding was locked to a network? Is this man right that I can download a SDK file (what is a SDK file?) and simply load the new software onto the phone basically rendering it unbranded?
As for the original point of when the official Three upgrades will be issued.... Nothing, had no idea apart from to say not to long!

In a current thread, a forum member asked if there was a way to disable data. Putting my search skills to the test, I found the method ... and a whole lot more. This is really cool stuff. (I thought it was worthy of it's own thread.)
- Open dialer
- Dial *#*#4636#*#*
- Tap on 'Phone Information'
- Press Menu button
- Tap on More
- Tap Disable data connection (Or, Disable data on boot.)
Simply reverse the steps to re-enable your data connection either immediately, or after your next reboot. There's a whole lot more to checkout while you in there.Just be careful. You don't want to screw up anything.

There has been a lot of discussion on Engadget about whether the soft keyboard has multi-touch. Engadget insists no, and Rob here insists yes.I think I discovered where the problem lies. Josh at Engadget was saying that you had to release one key before pressing another or they would not both register. Rob said in his review that you COULD press them at the same time and both would register. I think I found out that both are right.I did some experimenting and would love to see whether others come to the same conclusion. It seems that when the keys are far enough apart (more than a couple of keys away), then you can, indeed, press the second before the first is released and they both register.BUT, if the keys are close to each other, it will not do this. You have to release one key before pressing the other.I think this must be to avoid accidentally hitting two keys with one finger. So, whether you think this is a good feature or too much babysitting of our typing abilities, it does seem intentional.

Interesting article comparing not-our-phone to an iPhone. That in itself is an interesting comparison. What I found most interesting was the layout of the components. Not sure if it's identical in our phones as it is in the Nexus One, but it was pretty cool to see.

I talked with a VZW tech just a few minutes ago.I described her the silent bug problem on 2.1.She said she is a Droid user and her daughter has an Eris. She said she had frequent freezeup on her Droid and now she reccomends to do one reboot every day. She says she had not had a problem since she has been doing this. She made a mark on my file about my complain and recommended to try the once-a-day reboot for a week. If the problem persists, the store will issue a new phone.I will try this reboot thing each night, will see how it goes.I am a bit worried about the exchange they perhaps would give me a refurb, and what is the guarantie that I won't end up with the same problem.

Droid vs Eris Pics & Video
Found this topic on the Droid forum. I find it pretty interesting and pretty interesting that the Eris can keep up with the Droid and that no flash isn't as big of an issue as you would think.
Might change some minds if the flash feature is something you thing is big when deciding between Eris and Droid.

I did the manual OTA update to 2.1 and once I re-setup my exchange account it enforced the security policy (no surprise there thank god for LockPicker!). The Pattern Unlock stayed as well. So I would have to pattern unlock THEN input the 4 digit alphanumeric (major PITA) So after installing lockpicker I only had to pattern unlock - no problem.
Well I've had the dreaded "no-audio" bug a couple times since upgrading so I decided to try a hard reset before pursuing a warranty replacement. This time I did the same thing, setup my Exchange account and installed LockPicker. Now I do NOT have the pattern unlock. Under Security -> Screen Unlock Pattern I only have "Change Unlock Password" and there doesn't appear to be any way to enable the Pattern unlock.
Here is where it gets interesting. My friend has an Eris as well, is on the same exchange server and got 2.1. He is in the same boat that I was PRE 2.1 upgrade where he has the pattern unlock AND the password (I hipped him to LockPicker) and is now where I was with only the Pattern Unlock. Under his Security -> Screen unlock it is the same as mine, with only "Change Unlock Password".
Now not have the pattern unlock is not the end of the world, I just liked having that small bit of security...just curious if anyone can find a way, short of another hard reset, to get Pattern Unlock back. I'm guessing that the issue is that I didn't enable pattern unlock before setting up Exchange and allowing it to enforce that security policy.

I've noticed that a lot of comments on top apps are from comment spammers. When is something going to be done about this market wide problem? There are probably less than 20 of these users who hit virtually every top app with comment spam. My app is getting hit every single day by these people. It's really getting annoying.

I think it is interesting that you can't say 1 bad thing about this phone or everyone in this forum will either say "bye" or "trade the phone then" or whatever it is. I have the Hero and when people brought up negative things about the phone i agreed with some and disagreed with others. There is no perfect phone out there and when people are shopping for new phones it is good to hear the good and bad then they can make their decision on which one to buy. I would like to see some "real" likes and dislikes on this phone to make an educated decision. Then i can decide if i should pull the trigger on the powerfull EVO wait to possibly get a 2Ghz phone released sometime this year by motorola?

A couple of weeks ago, frustrated by the lack of attention from Sprint, I took the plunge and rooted. I flashed the Fresh ROM and have not looked back. Now that 2.1 is out, is there anyone out there that has hands on with both that can compare the two? Basically, I'm looking to find out if I should swap over to Eclair.

"You can tell that the processor is fast, but the UI still has a jerky quality to it - it's not totally fluid. We'd say that's more of an Android thing, though."Quoted directly from engadet's preview."Dont get me wrong: the Droid X is a delight to use. But at times, the hypothetical finish feels a little rougher than it should, and its lacking a certain refinement in how it switches between screens, in how it responds to the touch that one sees in an iPhone or even iPod."Quoted from Zdnet.com's preview.I have hopes that the phone is nice and fluid. I remember the droid when it first came out was lagy, especially on the home screens. Lets hope the X is not.

Now I know there will be a thread or 2 about this at the moment but I thought I would double check being a newbie and all. If someone leaves a bad comment, or a competitor leaves a bad comment (to help their sales), so on or so far, is there no way to either delete it or at least answer the comment back? HUGE oversight if not and frustrating What have other developers done to overcome this problem?

I am currently using the official Twitter app and it's not too bad on the whole. However, I was wondering if there is a way of being able to comment on photos which have been uploaded via TweetPhoto etc, from the official Twitter app? I know you can add TweetPhoto to your allowed applications via Twitter on a computer, but there doesn't seem to be a way to comment on the photo from my mobile. I could reply to the tweet, but that doesn't leave a comment underneath the picture of TweetPhoto. Hope all that makes sense.

Is it possible to Retweet and add your own comment using the official Twitter app?
I have read the comments on the market and AppBrain and some people have made reference to retweeting and adding a comment to the retweet.
If this is possible, could somebody tell me how?

I just posted a defect / feature request and it was declined without comment. Can anybody explain to me why this was declined without an explanation?
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2991
I took the time to provide feedback as a user of the android api, based on some discussion in the developer group. I am not the only developer who has encountered this deficiency in the api. I think I explained the deficiency clearly. And I think it is a professional courtesy to provide an explanation. If it is a duplicate, please say so. If I am in error and this is not a problem because of an oversight on my part, I think that would be helpful to know.
If the attitude of the project owners is that the api is good enough. Maybe we could have a short conversation about that.
As it stands now, I have no insight into this issue or why my defect was declined. Was it rejected for good reason or an arrogant developer who like to hit the reject button?

My battery life was bad, but it was OK, but in the past few days my battery life is 10% per 30minutes(Just over 5 hours on a charge).I used to get 8-10 hours on a charge.I noticed last week that while it was charging the status of the battery was "Overheat".I think I somehow cooked the battery?I use TaskKiller and kill 95% of apps automatically, I have bluetooth, wireless,GPS disabled and the screen dimmed.I have not changed or installed any new apps.I have not changed the way I use the phone at all.My battery was dead, 0%, and it charged to 95% in about 45 minutes. Is this even possible? In fact in the past two days I have not gotten the charge above 95% at all.

When downloading and installing updates from Android Market, you often see an update comment like version 1.2.14 Bugfix on.version 1.2.15 Added settings menu and so on. How is that comment made? I couldn't see a update comment field in the market today.
