HTC Incredible :: Froyo - Root
Sep 1, 2010I finally got my OTA this morning and I'm happy as a toad in a pool of mud. My question is, how do I root now with this new update? Can I still use the unRevoked root?

View 10 RepliesThis is the RUU, and it will wipe your phone, Clean. (It won't wipe your SD card) , but it's up to you. It's the exact same as the official that Verizon is rolling out, except a Preferred Roaming List, which just determines what towers you can connect to. This will not root your phone.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI am currently rooted and held off my OTA update because I haven't done the Unrevoked Forever and S-Off yet. I'm always a fan of competely wiping devices then installing the OS fresh so I'm considering just ditching all that and doing the RUU. Can I acheive root if I do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got my "dinc" in early August with 2.1 onboard and recieved the OTA froyo upgrade about two weeks ago. I like 2.2 (I think) but not all the battery-vampire crap-apps that came with it. I desparately want to root so that I can explore the full potential of this phone and hopefully find some options to extend my battery and get rid of the bloatware.
Unrevoked's website says v3.2 has been temporarily pulled and to use v2.2 "in the meantime". I've tried several of the methods that call for 3.2 using 2.2 and it seems to work up to the reboot step towards the end. Each time I get this "failed to flash recovery image" message. I've followed every detail of several videos and posts (including one from this forum) instructing how to root with Unrevoked, but the end result is always the same.
1. Can I use Unrevoked to root my phone with the froyo upgrade in place?
2. If so, how? Because what I've been trying ain't gettin' it done.
3. If not, is there a way to roll-back to 2.1 so that I can use Unrevoked?
4. Could the 2.2 version of Unrevoked be casuing my "failed flash" issue?
If you've lost your root due to upgrading to 2.2, you're most likely in luck.
Check out this link, [ROOT] unrEVOked 3.2: one-click root for Froyo, no downgrading - xda-developers, then head over to ##unrevokedtest at freenode.net to get in on the testing.
I decided to try to goto Froyo. I have never previously rooted before this experience. I followed the instructions here and on the Internets and was successfully able to update my phone in the following order: Now I am unable to *228 and program with either a 1 or a 2. The message "programming in progress" does come up but after about 10 seconds, the voice tells me that I cannot update at this time and I should call customer service. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to troubleshoot. I assume its due to the upgrade and not a coincidence.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been wanting to root my phone for a while, but I haven't had the bills to do it. I saw unrevoked released what looks like a fail proof way of doing it and I'm seriously considering taking the plunge. I'm debating whether or not to root it now or wait to see if this "possible" froyo update comes out later this month.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOK, some of us have the OTA update, and some of us got the update by downloading the update.zip (I downloaded the update from here.)
Froyo is nice however it is not clean. There is so much bloatware on this that i cant wait to get rooted again so i can get rid of all of it.
Has anyone done this yet? Can it be done yet?
I am not responsible if this does not work for your case or if you damage your phone in any way. This information is provided to attempt to help other people in the community that were having the same issues I was for the OTA. The way I did my OTA and got root back is this: (simplified version)
- install unrevoked 3, and unrevoked forevor (s-off)
- wait for OTA message
- click install later
- reboot into recovery
- do nand backup
- find and download stock 2.1 recovery zip file
http://adrynalyne.us/?p=41 (stock recovery is here)
- find and download (to a different location) clockworks mod zip file
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
(near the bottom of the page)
- place stock 2.1 recovery file on root of sd card
- reboot into hboot
- hboot will ask to install recovery update
- click yes
- reboot back to OS
- wait for OTA message
- click install now
- wait for 10-30 minutes while phone does OTA update
- place clockworksmod zip file onto root of sd card (overwriting/deleting the 2.1 stock zip file in the process)
- reboot into Hboot
- when asked allow hboot to update recovery again
- reboot phone
- uninstall any old super user program you had on your phone
- install this new one using the information on this link

You should now have wonderful froyo with root!
I have followed every guide that I can find. I cannot get my phone to either receive the OTA update and I cannot get it to update manually. This is the error that I get:
assert failed: file_getprop ("/system/build.prop","ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/inc/inc/inc:2.1-update1/ERE27/161494:user/release-keys" || file.getprop ("/system.build.prop","ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/231334:user/release-keys
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I had a stock Incredible that I rooted with Unrevoked3. I then ran Unrevoked Forever on it and then downgraded to remove root. I placed the 2.2 Update on the sdcard and went through the recovery menu to select it and then try to install it. The above error is what I get everytime I try to update. This is also the same error I got when I tried to accept the OTA when I was rooted (in my grogginess in the morning when I woke up and saw the OTA, I just kept hitting ok having completely forgotten about my phone being rooted). I don't know much about coding other than the little I use to do with Java/C++/HTML in school, but what I am getting out of this is my phone does not like the 2.2 update file. I am assuming that it may have an MD5 Hash in verifying/installing the file that it does not like?
I just rooted my stock froyo with it! If this has already been discussed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Desire from Vodafone (UK) that came with its practically invisible branding. Voda recently put out an update (that I have not installed yet) that would load it up with a bunch of branding bloatware. Word is that when they put out their Froyo update, it will have the same unremovable bloatware. I'd rather not have that.
If I root my Desire (with, say, unrEVOked) and install an official stock Froyo ROM (such as was received by those with completely unbranded Desires), what happens after that? Will I then have an essentially unbranded Desire that receives automatic OTA updates for bug-fixes (and, just maybe, Gingerbread)?
Or will I be stuck with a possibly buggy version of Froyo while waiting for a similar root-method to develop to install a bug-fixing patch?
I just wrote a simple guide on how to root the HTC Desire(no goldcard needed) and install Froyo on it.Hope this helps some of you guys!

View 15 Replies View RelatedI've been reading about android 2.2 coming out with Flash 10 support. I haven't seen an official date yet but it sounds like it's coming very soon. I've been running BB v1.0 and love it. That being said, I want this new update asap but I don't want to lose root. Is there going to be any BB or similar rom using the update? I've read Google has the code under wraps. Root users had all the benefits of ese53 weeks before 2.1 was distributed, will we see a repeat or are root users going to need to wait for custom roms or risk losing root when 2.2 comes?

Just letting everyone know that the Easy Root app is now compatible with Froyo.

No one knows do they? Iam waiting for froyo before I root. Better safe than sorry.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a desire which is updated to froyo and has the new 2.10.405.2 update which is OTA installed on it ( not to sure what the update was for something about RUS keyboard) anyway I was wondering if any of this will effect me rooting my phone and if it is worth rooting seeing as I already have froyo with sense but I was thinking stick vanilla froyo on there to make it faster or a different rom, will doing this make my phone faster and less prone to crashing sense all the time which is what happens now.
Also any risks involved with rooting froyo? Also I have a fully unbranded desire and can sumone suggest a good rom to flash?
With the impending ota update looming in the near future, what would happen if your rooted phone accepts and installs the ota update?

How to: Root DROID X Running Official Android 2.2 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
when the bat was running, it kept telling me that adb was not a valid command.
The entire process only took 30 seconds or so.
I suspect adb is not installed, or the sdk is not installed completely. My phone still is on, and appears normal, and is still plugged into the pc.
How can I check to see if it is indeed rooted, and if not, how to I install adb (link?) so it does root properly?
Well I have been seeing all these new posts on phandroid about the new motorola droid x and my upgrade isn't until '12. So all I'm asking is what is the best videos that you guys have seen to root and overclock the droid. Also how to put froyo on it. Just trying to get my version of a droid x.

What is the easiest way to root on froyo. It has to be very easy or I wont risk it. Apparently the one click I used on 2.1 wont work with 2.2
