HTC Incredible :: Does Power On _ Off Shorten Life Of Phone?
May 4, 2010
This might be a dumb question, but does powering the phone on and off shorten the life of the phone? I power it off completely every night and then power it back on the next morning to save some battery. I've always done this with my other phones and never had a problem, but this being a smart phone with so many applications running, it's like a computer so I wasn't sure if it's just better to leave it in sleep mode all night instead.

Is there any way to shorten the tap interval for the keyboard? For example, if I want to put a question mark at the end of a sentence, I can tap and hold "k" until the question mark appears, or, I can pres "12#" and tap "?"
Is there a way so that I can make the "tap and hold" shorter, so that the question mark will appear more quickly?

Found a good way to save on battery life. Use airplane mode app to switch off all communications on your Wildfire at night. I had to download an app called StudioKUMA Airplane Scheduler. I have set mine to 11:00pm off and back on at 06:00am so should save a load on battery power.

I would gladly pay money (and i'm sure a lot of eris -> incredible users would too) for an app/patch to give me the option to use an alternative key/button (menu/home button, or even vol rocker?) to wake up the phone when it's in sleep mode. It was one of the major reasons why I ended up returning the moto droid for an eris (the eris has a power button on the bottom of the phone). Would root be required for this kind of mod?

Does anyone know of any way to get the Incredible to wake up by pressing the optical trac-pad on the front instead of the power button up top?
I find the power button to be annoying and wish both would "wake-up" the screen.

Sounds like the Eris has a feature to disable 3G, which saves tons of battery life. Anybody know if the Incredible will have the same feature? Seems to involve disabling a "mobile network" setting:

Just wondering if underclocking my Incredible will save battery life during the day-I can't use my phone much at work-maybe when I go somewhere to pee or grab something to eat-that is about it. I wouldn't care about speed during the day..say if I underclock it to like 400 MHZ, would that save a lot of battery life? I would set it to normal once I was done with work.

I'm not sure if the screen on the Droid is OLED or regular LCD. I know that leaving an LCD on for hours at a time can possibly shorten the life of the backlight... Anyone know what the case is here?

Here are the settings I am trying out as my "Power Saver Mode" for my HTC Magic (Rogers). Not sure yet how much of a difference this whole set up will actually make, but I'll try to make it a scientific study. Please take a look, I am interested in comments on the setup in general, and on individual settings (ie. will a particular setting really make that much of a difference to the over-all power usage?).As of the moment I changed all these settings, my battery is at 97% (After I turned on my phone this morning, all these settings were previously opposite so i could get my email, etc).
1. Screen Brightness 15%
2. WiFi = OFF
3. GPS = OFF
4. Auto-sync = OFF
5. "Enable always on mobile" = OFF
6. Background Data Usage = OFF
7. Use only 2G Networks = YES
I am also using these apps:
"TasKiller" to kill BG apps
"Useful Switchers" to modify settings.
It would be nice if there were an app that could work like the power setup in the system tray of Windows where you can choose different power modes for your laptop. A simple app with a Power Saver Mode, Balanced Mode, and Power User Mode that could all be set by the user.It would be nice to be able to run the app, choose the "Power Saver" mode and have it automatically change all the settings as I've listed them above, and then be able to choose "Power User" to reverse them easily so I don't have to go through all the separate steps to do it myself.

I'm thinking of getting the HTC desire when it releases in the US and I know it has already in Europe. I'm one of those people that would use the phone for internet, texting, probably not emailing.I'm interesting in what you guys' batter life is.Like if you had 3g off and all those battery saving tips.Like manual switching 3g on when needed etc.Since I want an accurate time to go by because I'm going to do the exact thing when I get mine.Using battery saving tips for max.As well if any hardcore power saving iphone users can post their times as well since I can't find anything on the web relating to that.

i have a droid eris,im thinking of getting an incredible.can somebody tell me if they have made the same switch and if the battery life is better, the same or worse to the eris. i realize this will very by user im hoping to find some eris users that switched. but if you have a incredible and want to tell me your opinion on the battery life, fine by me. i use mine on and off some phone calls, some texts, some emails and check facebook a couple times a day.some times more sometimes less. as long as i dont use my pandora radio i make it through the day before i need a charge, but i always charge at night.

I'm a recent convert to Android from WinMo. With my old phone, it was recommended to turn the phone off several times a week when recharging. On the forums here though, I noticed that most people don't. Is it not necessary with this OS?

Is it at all possible to end phone calls by pressing the power button on the top of the phone? I got used to this on my girlfriend's iPhone and like it a lot better than ending the call by pressing the screen. Is there an app for this? Or a setting?

I am playing with WidgetLocker and the power bar just looks ugly.
I remember seeing some people were able to put 1x1 controls for certain things. I would like mobile data, airplane mode, and brightness. Can someone suggest the method?

Has anyone had any luck with aftermarket power supply's. I'd like a car/ac charger or a stand alone power pack. I usually use my DEXIM. but it does not work with the Behold 2. I've tried a car charger/battery unit by Wireless Gear that said it was compatible with all Samsung phones, it came with 5 power tips and a USB outlet that still would not work, even using the OEM USB cable. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I will go with OEM Samsung if necessary, but there selection is limited.

I have a rooted Galaxy S3 with Android 4.1.2, and for some strange reason they've changed the screenshot combination away from the Power+VolDown that other Androids use to Power+Home which can't realistically be pressed one-handed. How can I change it back to Power+VolDown?

I would like the screen to stay on (on whatever brightness it's normally set at) when connected to external power. I've found the Settings/Applications/Development "Stay Awake" checkbox, but the screen still dims down after 30 seconds, though it doesn't go completely off.Is there a way to keep the screen on?All the WinMo phones I had had two separate profiles one for on battery and one for when on a charger, and you could set the screen brightness and timeout independently for each power profile. The reason for this is that I have a dashmount cradle of sorts that I use, and I generally put the phone in it and plug it in when I'm driving any sort of distance. I do things like look at the phone signal, see if new mail comes in, etc. while driving, and it's just reassuring to look down at the phone and see it doing something without having to hit the power button.

If you'll recall, the power button, volume rocker, micro usb port as well as backplate were all the infamous red color, prior to the Incredible's release. A few of us actually liked the uniqueness of the red backplate and photos of a version of the phone were even leaked, sporting a black backplate & red buttons.
I noticed yesterday that the micro USB port trim (currently black) has a little piece of the plastic chipped away. The interesting thing I noticed is that, below the black, I can see a hint of the red. Personally, I'd prefer red accents for the three areas.

Searched all over the forums and internet for an answer but came up blank.I downloaded an app called power control and installed it. It screwed up my contact list so I wanted to uninstall it. Not just remove it from my desktop, but full uninstall is what I'm after.Did a search for it in the android market and could not find it anywhere again to uninstall it that way. Tried using Astro File Manager to uninstall but does not show up there. The only place it shows up on my phone is in the bottom menu bar ( menu, phone, + ) I hit + -----> widgets ------> power control. Anybody have an ideas on how to uninstall this thing ?

Twice this has happened: Turn the phone off to charge, in the morning the phone won't turn on with the power switch. I have to remove the battery and re-install it, for the phone to come on.
Anyone else have this happening?
